This whole thing is just so inconsistent and frustrating! Still no sign of approval here, application done in Feb 17, test in June. Nothing since. Sydney CBD.
Why do they give approval next day for some and then don't approve and put some of us on hold like this for many months/years? It is mental torture and i lost 2 Gov job opportunities with 6 figure salary, they gave up on waiting for me even though they want my skills. Financially and career wise i have been severely affected.
I am sure, like me your documents are all clear, i have no issues with ID docs infact at my interview the Officer was very impressed how i had everything in order and legit. I have very clean record since birth didn't even harm a fly, I really hope they conduct some investigation into this and immediately process all these apps, it is really wrong to withhold our citizenship from us which we are eligible for. When i google other countries, citizenship usually takes 2 weeks to 6 months maximum, just in near past Australia was processing in 80 days.
Government only needs to read this thread to understand the scale of the problem.

Anyone else did the test on Nov/Dec 2017 and still waiting approval? It seems like i'm the only one who did the test in Nov/Dec period without an approval everyone got approved in that period.

I am a May 25th applicant and I finally got my citizenship test earlier this week on Wednesday in Melbourne.
Having gone through the process now, Here are my tips for the citizenship test and interview, Hope it helps you all:
1. Over prepare for the test, order the DVD watch it like 5 times and read the book. Do all the practise questions on their website and find other websites that have different tests. I scored 100% as a result it’s very easy just learnt it properly, anyone can score 100% it’s not a big achievement or anything.
2. Be organised, I put all my documents in a folder labelled properly in compartments. Interviewer was very happy. I saw others going through piles of paper it’s a bad look and waste of time!
3. Interview: I was asked following questions: Full name, date of birth, profession, any known criminal offenses, any planned overseas trips.
I was Asked for original documents for Overseas PCC, birth cert, driving license, passport. Funny I wasn’t asked for the Identity declaration form LOL!
4. Be calm! While my interviewer was very friendly and chilled out he even joked with me, some interviewers I observed doing other people were very indifferent or to the point. Some people were also acting too nervous it is.not required they are just another human doing their job lol.
Infact while doing the test a British lady behind me was so nervous that the examiner had to go to her and tell her to relax, she even restarted the test for her as she was too nervous. That’s why you should prepare to avoid unnecessary stress.
Hope these tips help you all
Now the REAL waiting begins, based on most people reports I don’t expect approval anytime.
Hope everyone of us get a speedy approval so that we are all happy Ozzies

Nothing yet 20th April On line Adelaide
The apps are still frozen, other than a few random ones vast majority 99% still frozen. Those 19 April and before got their test dates ages ago so no other explanation for April20 apps not being processed yet.
people have to start demanding answers, maybe we should start sending emails like we did with the bill? Plz suggest everyone

According to the list here, there is one guy who applied at the end of July from Melbourne actually got the test date today.
Looks like they are speeding it up! Does local council make any difference to the test dates or the difference is just for ceremony dates?
I’m very skeptical as some people put incorrect dates. Why would they skip all the way till July? Other than very few reported, vast majority of April apps have are not being picked up.
It is my concern that the “freeze” is still sort of there, we are almost heading to 3 weeks since bill was rejected but no real movement. They are not interested or concerned in processing the backlog applications.

Exactly what a waste of time, look at current processing time now :
Australian Citizenship application type 75% of applications processed in 90% of applications processed in Conferral (lodgement to ceremony**) 10 months 14 months It used to be just under 3 months!
Yes, 3 months, maximum 6 months in busy council areas. Then another 2 months for passport
It was something considered a quick process, actually, most countries citizenship is a quick process once you are eligible as you already did the waiting getting PR and living for years. But now wait is 14 months, because of political motivations chasing a BS bill, so much time wasted.

What a waste of time that was ? I’m glad though it just made it easier for me to pick my political affiliation
I'm waiting since May, total waste of time and messed up many people's lives. I went through alot of crap actually lost an important job that was promised to me with huge future financial implications that required citizenship..I'm sure there are worse cases than me. Anyway i'm moving forward as long as my application in processed.
Never voting Liberal though after this experience, ever. My extended family and local community who are already Australians and voted liberal in past all now will vote Labour next election, this whole fiasco left a very bitter taste.

Good news. I have seen on here mentioned that people have received a letter acknowledging receipt of their application. I have only seen the debit of the citizenship application fee from my account but no acknowledgement letter or email. Can anyone shed some light on this? Did everyone receive an acknowledgment ? I applied End May 2017, debited my account Early June 2017 but no communication from Immi at all. They were quick to take my money.
I received acknowledgement letter email 2 days after i applied in May, pretty sure most people did even if app was frozen. It's nothing special.

Just spoke to DIBP, they said applications are still on hold they didn't receive any instructions yet except what they heard from news media. You'd think and order would go out right away.

Assume this does not mean the bill can therefore be passed ?
We will see tonight but unlikely it will pass, the amendments only address 2 issues, it only lowers the IELTS level to 5 which won't be sufficient to convince NXT and removes the "retrospective" aspect of the bill.
NXT asked Dutton to revise the entire bill not just those 2 issues

Just wondering assuming the Bill get defeated, does the government / Dutton has the power to continue the freeze of applications from the April ?
Not sure if he had the power to freeze apps in the first place with no law in place, clearly he is not in a hurry to resume the applications so lets see what happens. Maybe Senate will have to force him if he still keeps them frozen or lawsuits will start to come out.

It's not over for Dutton - his pride will likely prevent him from admitting defeat even at the expense of future votes!
Anyway, it's not over until it is and the fat lady has yet to sing!
If after October 18 applications are still on hold, it will be further proof that this whole Application freeze is purely political and Dutton's personal quest.
Nothing to do with "reforms" and all the other BS we are fed.

This whole thing has been such a huge waste of time, 7 months waiting on hold and in the end its all just BS.
Was this even legal for Peter Dutton to freeze applications without a law being in place.

Can we not fight over who pays more tax and who doesn't and instead focus on the real subject at hand? No point in judging each other, everyone has unique life circumstances and I'm certain 99% of people on this thread just want this nightmare imposed upon us since April 20 to be over soon.
My App is frozen since May, I've been lurking for a while and found comments by Roberta and Wombat to be very useful, lets keep discussion relevant.
Maybe we all party after October 18th!

ok, im really confused in relation to the new rules, I have lived here continuously since 2012. .. I was advised they are not processing any new application? I have put of applying because of this.
you're really late, did you even bother reading the first pages?? they explain everything, try to google "new citizenship law" and read.

Question is after October 18 will they speed up the citizenship app process and add more resources to compensate for the time wasted chasing this ridiculous bill? Or is everyone after April 20 still looking at a total of almost 2 year wait?
Seeing the attitude of immigration minister so far is discouraging, I don't think he really cares.
I hope so they speed up the frozen apps, it would be very long wait otherwise! I am waiting since May, has been very stressful experience for me and everyone affected!

People always trying to make money at all costs and every opportunity lol

Will getting ceremony in Bendigo be faster than getting ceremony in Melbourne ?

Hi, i found this on another forum people should take action if affected by delays
If you are affected by Citizenship delays, the only way to make a difference is to contact the following Government bodies:
1. Lodge a complaint with DIBP/Home Affairs Global Unit on their website: https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/about/contact/provide-feedback/compliments-complaints-suggestions
2. Lodge a complaint with Commonwealth Ombudsman: https://forms.business.gov.au/smartforms/servlet/SmartForm.html?formCode=oco-complaint-form
3. Lodge a complaint with ANAO (click on the Contact Us page and quote the audit mentioned in the link): https://www.anao.gov.au/work/performance-audit/efficiency-department-immigration-and-border-protection-processing
