  1. Hi, i was wondering if every state required the same amount of points to enter or whether this differed from state to state?? As were all aware by now, the points have bumped up to 65 as a minimum (we currently have 60) and were struggling to find where we can get more points from.... so any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance, Emma x

  2. New to this site and made it a mission to get through this thread....hard work and often derailed.
However, I couldn't let this one go. What a load of unadulterated BS. You seem mighty confused, scared even.
To the OP, I would take many of the comments on here with a mountainload of salt. When I get a minute, I'll tell you my experience.
    Good luck
    Thank you x
  3. Have to agree with this.  Here in SA the state primary school our kids went to had fees and then nothing else to buy.  Some teachers did ask for things like tissues or soap for the class room but all the books were provided.  State high school is different and we have to provide stationary.  The school sends out a list, which is also published on the website, that has what items are required for each subject.
Oh, and our state school fees in SA are 'legally recoverable' so nothing voluntary about them.  I suspect this is the same for all state schools in SA.
Ahhh right! Thanks for this [emoji4] do you mind if i ask how much the fees were for the primary school?? X
  4. I know this is a stupid question.... but..... how much roughly are school fees??? We are hoping to have a visa accepted to victoria and are looking near Geelong. I have one son that is probably going to be college age when we get over, one in high school and one in primary. Thanks x

  5. Yeah it’s been great so far it’s a very nice place

When are you thinking about moving? And why Geelong?

If you have any specific questions you want to ask fire away anything I don’t know I can find out for you

That is so lovely of you! Thank you so much!

We are hoping in about 18months or so.

Well we didnt fancy living in the city, but we wanted to be a short drive away and also close to the beach too. The fact its a place currently coming into its own is a plus too. But to be fair, we havent seen it in person so we dont know if it will suit us or not? I just think it looks like a nice place to live from what ive read and seen online and it feels it will suit us better than the east or north of melbourne.

    Xx

  7. You're more than welcome! :-) so many thousands have moved and are so very happy. As mentioned, we personally have a better lifestyle here than we had in the UK for so many reasons -  fingers crossed it continues for not only us, but for you and your family - plus the huge amount of those who have taken the step. We can only speak from our own experience of course but it is just so great out here! If you have any questions at all - please do get in touch on here or PM. Very happy to help if I can x

Awww thank you so much! That is so kind of you! I will take you up on that at some point im sure x
  8. Getting back to the original post I think the reasons are twofold, there clearly is more people returning the UK AND because of the internet we are also hearing about it more. The reasons for returning are also many, for some it's family, for others it's work or familiarity or even boredom. When we first moved to Brisbane it was like moving to some sort of paradise, that took a couple of years to wear off and then it became just normal life and then it became almost boring. The humidity became draining, the cold badly insulated house became annoying, the rising cost of living was another drain and I grew to hate the traffic and low standard of driving. Having said this I really like Brisbane and in the unlikely event of ever going back I think it is where we would go.
Having grown up in Australia I guess I see it differently to many on here, I have seen the changes and I don't like them, I don't like the direction the country has gone.
I still think that if anyone has the opportunity to go then they should as it is in many ways a lovely country and can offer some a very good life.

Thank you for this post x

  9. Makes me smile when I read it :-)
Absolutely. Your life to lead, what you choose will be right for you. I personally feel failure if I haven't tried something as opposed to doing something and then finding out it wasn't for me.
I hope and wish you success and enjoyment as the tens of thousands + others who took the chance and it worked out. For us the financial boost, spending more time outdoors, swimming etc etc and watching our child blossom has been so unbelievably amazing. Have met some lovely people already and are looking forward to a catch up with family we haven't seen for years for our first hot Christmas! We feel blessed and so grateful we made the move. I really hope, whatever you choose will bring even more giggles :-) x

This has made my day! Lovely post! Thank you so very much xx
  10. But as you say easy to spot and only a couple. Most posters just have a clear preference and it is helpful for people making the move to read the pluses and minuses and decide how they apply to them.
It would be somewhat naive to assume that everything is going to be rosy on the other side of the planet.

After all the replies this is what i have been able to do, see how some comments apply to us etc x

  11. Go for it while you're young, if it doesn't work out you'll claw it back. There's not much traction in the opinions of others, most have agendas. The figures say a lot are moving back, I go through spells myself however I have to say, I don't know anyone else contemplating it right now. The only people I know who moved back to the UK from here did so after 3 days as it was too hot. And that's a true story. At the very least, for 3 or 4 years you'll feel like you're on a great holiday, if that leaves you wanting more, you can always move back. And if it works out, hey presto, life sorted.

Awesome outlook and definitely how we feel about it all now! Thank you xx

  12. Meant to say in my last post  Emmagiggles (great name by the way!) just ignore the "point scorers", they pop up constantly. Just do your research and take the path that's best for you and your family. There are tens of thousands of people who have moved to Australia and are very happy. I'm sure I read somewhere that people generally don't tend to write a lot on forums/online if they're happy with something. Who knows if it's true, just something I either heard or read.
Speaking personally we are experiencing great things - more money, promotions, outdoors/swimming in the beach more often... our daughter is blossoming. We're very happy!  That's us - our story.
Only you will know what's right for you - whatever you decide, be it UK or Australia- it will be the right choice for you x

Haha thank you! It is a childhood nickname that has stuck with me [emoji23]

Yes, i think what i have got from all of the posts is that only we can make the decision thats right for us, and if we do choose australia and find its not for us then its not the end of the world to move back. Nothing ventured nothing gained so to speak! I only hope we can have similar success to you and your family! Is it melbourne you reside? X

  13. This happens a lot unfortunately. There is some great advice on this forum, however, too many times 'point scorers' use anything to spark the old tired UK vs Aus argument for their own self satisfaction. It really puts people off posting which is disappointing. I do hope you have found some useful information and if not, have a good dig around as there are some really great threads on here. All the best with your move!

    Thank you very much x
