Direct grant received today.
Applied 26/6 so that's 6 nearly 7 weeks. Can't believe it. Was expecting another winter here as it was going so slow.
Hope everyone else waiting hears their good news soon ??

This is just out of interest really.....
My tourist visa is valid until until February 2018.... my application went in Middle of June and I know that most are taking quite some time until they are granted.. I know I can't work but could I go in the hope that my grant will come through within the 8 months it suggests and hope it arrives earlier? Has anyone done this at all and it's worked out Ok? My application has been completed by a MA and he doesn't foresee any issues it's just how long!!!
Any positive stories would be appreciated:-)

By the way, Dec and Jan are slow for rentals. Not much on the market during the Christmas holidays and then from late Jan to late Feb, it feels like a massacre with everyone out and about looking for rentals.
Thanks. Hoping my visa will be be granted end of October (4 months from application) so hopeful I can be there before Christmas
Thank you.

We're currently in a rented flat waiting on shipping. We rented the bare minimum furniture inc kitchen utensils, plates etc. Look on internet, loads of companies renting furniture short term, any budget. We are lucky flat has walk in robes and drawers, so we can store clothes. Good luck
Sent from my iPhone using PomsinOzThank you for this idea :-) we are only shipping part furniture so we do need to buy some. I think we can rent and loan off friends until it arrives. Did you find an apt that rents less than 6 months?

Hello all,
i have submitted my application for a 189 Skills Visa just over a week ago. I know that realistically it could take 3-4 months for approval however I am keen to get searching for accommodation in Mel for when I arrive. I will be shipping a part container and have been told that could take up to 10-12 weeks so I probably need a short term let for 2 months while I wait for it to arrive. Where do I start? Serviced apt in the city are 200-250 a day and I can't afford this so what did you all do for accommodation when you all moved out to Australia initially? Did you book in advance or wait for your grant or different? I'm conscious that with summer arriving around the time I hope to get there everything will be booked up - any tips or advice is appreciated- thanks

That's awesome! Where you from? I know, some people seem to get them quick, others seem to take forever and there's no real correlation.
Headed to Melbourne! Yourself?
First choice is Melbourne too.
Did you apply through an agent? Not far from Bedford. U? Just can't wait to get there now!

@Australia123go Hope you get a fast grant!!! Quick turnaround for you. Was roughly similar for me, 3 days EOI to application then all sent off incl medicals and PCC.

Just sorting medical and police checks now. Skilled 189 too! ????Would love a grant in July however not sure how likely that is reading all the recent posts.

Haha... I did think for a minute ?
Its all happened on schedule so far.... process started end of February and was lucky to pass IELTS test first time. Skills Assessment end of May and EOI in only just under 2 weeks ago. Visa application in on Monday this week. Have been told it could take 3-4 months.
lets hope it's no longer than that :-)

Anybody else come away from their skills assessment feeling like they didn't do as well as they could?
I am applying for a 189 visa as a general mechanic. I have been doing the job and been working for a well known car manufacturer for over 12 years yet the assessor asked me mostly questions that are more relevant to back to when I was an apprentice rather than the skills that are used every day in a normal main dealer workshop, so even though I know I'm more than capable of doing the job, now feel unsure as to how the results of the test will go.
Any reassuring comments or experiences would be appreciated.
Thanks
