  3. When we first came back, we moved to the south east and were looking at some of the most desirable areas - Ascot and similar. Opted for Windsor. No problems finding lots of choice in any. Even had no problem with temporary accomodation for arrival via air bnb. My wife goes everywhere with him now.
I am currently working on a project near Newcastle and staying at a holiday park at Whitley Bay. Dog friendly. Today, while I am at work, the wife will get a bus - with the dog to Sunderland - to visit a museum - with the dog. Have lunch at a nice cafe with him.
He is even welcome in the pharmacy where she picks up my prescriptions

Wow that's awesome- looking forward to being able to do that. Cheers [emoji8]

  4. Unless the listing clearly states no pets/dogs it always worth asking. And making clear they are not big or loud and are well looked after (ie not left outside all day barking). Offering to pay a bigger deposit/bond can also help. And of course it'll be written in the contract to get carpets etc professionally cleaned when moving out.
Your pool of properties will be smaller but you can find rentals that accept dogs.

    Thank you [emoji8]

  6. We pay on top of our monthly rent...
£180 per month council tax , water £40 per month ,gas & electric £160 per month and a parking permit £70 per year. This is in North London for a 4 bedroom house[emoji31]

If you look on gumtree.com & loot website it's normally direct to landlords to no estate agent fees..

A normal deposit amount in north London is £4000 up front to rent a 2bed flat

  7. 330K won't get you far round that part of the world. Not a 4 bed detached anyways. Though there are some to be had. I had a quick look on rightmove and found a few. Not big gardens and 70's style mostly for that price. http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/find.html?locationIdentifier=REGION^17849&index=24
And a five mile radius for up to £350,000  http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/find.html?locationIdentifier=REGION^17849&maxPrice=350000&radius=5.0
Shepton Mallet does have some cheaper newer houses http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/find.html?locationIdentifier=REGION^1198&maxPrice=350000  I guess it being that bit farther away from Bristol probably plays a part.
In Aus living happily now. Grew up in the Bristol area and moved away as a teen, moved back years later because of a job. Had never planned to live back that way but there you go, funny how things turn out. Its a lovely part of the world and I like the access to the south west, London and north from Bristol way. Overall we were very happy living round there for a few years but long term it probably would have worn me down. I did like being able to hop on a train and be in the city centre within 15 minutes, in London within 2.5 hours. That was the appeal for us being there, not being too far away from the actual city and we made good use of it and all it has to offer past the odd day trip on the weekend. As it was we were doing stuff there most weekends, evenings out and so on. And then, total oppostite, able to be out in the countryside within minutes of walking out our front door. Does come at a cost though. I prefer more rural living although husband's job meant that was not going to be an option in the UK for us again alas. And once you have to factor in schools and so on its a whole other ball game.

Yes that's the lifestyle I'm looking for - thankyou for sharing [emoji8]

  10. Yes - I've been offered jobs from one side of the country to the other. But I'm starting to plan the move. Doing research etc. just concerned about renting with dogs there. Seems stricter than here in OZ. [emoji848]

  11. Hello I've been offered a teaching position in the UK but theres no way I'm going without my dogs. Transport from Australia is easy. Just worried about finding rental property. There beautiful papillons- perfect. But I see that many landlords don't want pets. Help!!!!
