Does anyone else just feel like packing it all in occasionally? Susie’s post has made me want to jump in the harbour! It’s a bit cold though.

Hang on in there Ian.  It seems like forever but will be here soon enough.  I've waited that long and have just been made redundant and would have been ideal if they had carried on with the 18 months it takes but alas its not to be.  Anyway I am sick of waiting and am just enquiring to setting up my own dog grooming salon to take my mind of it.  I anticipate we will be here another year so might as well do something I love.  Myself and my husband are going over in Feb for a holiday/recce.  We are going to visit some driving/job agencies to see what the likelihood of my husband getting a driving job will be.  Where are you headed when you move out there.  We are going to Adelaide.

We arrived about 4 hours ago, and in all the excitement I actually forgot about the insurance for the trip!  I sold my car the day before I left the UK, which was cutting it fine to say the least.   It's now 2.30am and I'm still awake.  Good luck everybody still waiting, I'll be keeping an eye out and fingers crossed for you all.

Hi catlady2014.  Many congrats on finally getting to OZ.  I would have messaged earlier but currently doing a dog grooming course so not on the site much in last 5 weeks but in my final week next week so can catch up more often.  Anyway enough about me.  I am really pleased for you and your family.  Good luck and best wishes in your new life.  Hopefully myself and my husband will be following next year. xx

Well done! When did you first apply? What was the timescale from then to getting human contact at immigration?

Sent using Poms in Oz mobile app

Hi Ian.  We first applied on 5th June 2015 so its been a long wait.  Still a while to go though as not heard anything since.  I have not been on POMS for a couple of weeks as have been away so got excited when I saw 7th Jan but later saw 13th Jan so beside myself now.  When did you apply and are you using an agent?

    OFFSHORE APPLICANTS (subclass 143/173)

When your application is allocated to an assessing officer, you or your authorised contact may be asked to provide more documents, including but not limited to, Assurance of Support (subclass 143 only), police certificates and health clearances to finalise your application.

We are currently assessing applications lodged up to and including 07 January 2015.

woo hoo we are finally in 2015 visa applications.  I've just nearly jumped off the couch.  Here goes everyone with 2015 applications.

And so, I thought it was time for an update.

I'm not sure of the exact dates as this last part has been a bit of a whirlwind. My daughter had her interview at Centrelink, lodged the $14,000 bond and the AoS application was accepted and uploaded to Immigration on 30th August.

All the other documents were already with the agent. The medicals were completed back in July.

On the 8th September we were asked to pay the 2nd VAC. We had already transferred the necessary sum from the UK and so arranged a bank cheque which was posted to the PVC by express post on 11th September. We booked a trip to Bali and flew out of Australia on 16th September.

From my sun lounger by the pool I can confirm our visas were granted today, the 18th September. We return to Australia on Wednesday and can start both work and serious house-hunting.

I cannot believe that after all this time it has actually happened.

Keep the faith those of you in the waiting room.

Many congratulations its such exciting news.  Happy house hunting xx

    GREAT FORUM !

Hopefully the finishing line is in sight for my wife and I, well possibly 6  months before we actually leave the Uk all being well with the rest of the process. Ironically until we tie up our funding via our house sale we need to take a little time. Anyway I just wanted to say its been  a great help being in the forum in the few months since I joined. We all know how un informed the visa system is and there are so many questions and scenarios that go through our minds with nowhere official that seem able to put our minds at rest. This is a massive move for most of us with houses to sell, finances to raise , businesses to wrap up etc etc. The System I feel could be a bit more friendly given the fact our worlds are turning upside down , geographically literally !.  This forum has been a great lifeline and sharing everyone elses journey and sharing the same boat has definately helped.

Big thank you to Alan Collett !

Alan Collett especially gives so much advice and its all good information due to the fact he is a Migration agent. Its great and unsual that someone is willing to give so much help and information without charging for it ,  especially as he is involved in the system for a living as an agent and via his website "Go Matilda" with plenty of information and advice.. Any newbies should have a look there , especially if you have not got an agent as Alan would be my choice if I was starting out due to his invaluable input here.

Hopefully we will all have some good things to share over the next few months .

    Very nice words.

Today it really has all started to happen!  Contracts exchanged on the house, ready for completion on 25th, so giving me 3 weeks to sort out the last few things.  Shippers booked for 21st, flight out booked for 4th October, friends booked to accommodate me in the interim.   I'm now finally managing to exchange my feelings of apprehension for feelings of excitements,!

Good luck, another one out of the waiting room, so pleased for you.  Hope everything goes smoothly.  Stay in touch let us know how you get on.  xx

No first hand experience as I'm still in the waiting room. Being in our early sixties,  I have been a bit worried about jobs as my wife and I are both intending to work when we eventually get to Perth. I have posted here and on other forums and the feedback I have had is that some ageism does exist and with the downturn in the mining and therefore the Perth economy I may have some trouble getting something. However having been on holiday the last couple of years I have made some friends and have two or three possibilities already in the pipeline. I don't know where your heading but everything goes by truck and when you start building your network surely "who you know and not just what you know" will provide some openings. Especially your husband with his experience and a HGV licence will stand a great chance of employment.  From what I've seen the Australian austerity is not like ours and there still seems to be plenty of money around.  Jobs are there and hopefully you both and us both will stumble into something quickly. We will all be millionaires before we get our UK pensions .

    Good luck anyway.

Thanks for the feedback we are moving to Adelaide.  Its much appreciated. Millionaires, if only.  Good luck to you also.

that's an extra worry for you, I hope your husband finds something. I'm already retired but have been so alarmed by the drop in the exchange rate have been considering looking for something ...  good luck with it all!

    Hi

We are going over in Feb for a holiday so will go to some driving agencies whilst out there to get their advice.  I know the exchange rate is so bad.  We have just come into a windfall and wanted to transfer it into our bank account over there but will hold off for the moment.  Hope you're all feeling better soon.  xx

    Hi Lynn

I'm not sure I can help a huge amount, we are in NSW. My husband and I are 55 and 50 respectively and like you, need to work to retirement. We both found employment here relatively easily (hubby started within 12 days of arrival in December 2016!). He has a British HGV licence, however in NSW a test needs to be taken here to gain the Australian equivalent (he's not in a driving job here). Where we are in the Hawkesbury area there are so many truck driving jobs advertised but I'm not sure if that is a reflection of other states/cities. I don't know if this info helps at all but wish you good luck in your new adventures and hope the wait passes quickly!

    Amanda

    Hi Amanda

Thanks for the advice it's all helpful.  We are going over in Feb so are going to go some Agencies to ask their advice. xx

  12. Hi All

I need some advice if possible.  Myself and my husband will be in this waiting room until next year.  Not that I am complaining much as you are all a lovely bunch and it makes me so happy when I read someone has reached the end of the waiting room and is off to new adventures.  Anyway,  I am doing a dog grooming course in October in preparation for our move but my husband is a HGV driver for 31 years.  He will be 57 when we move over and we are worried his age will go against him as we will have to work until we receive our pensions.  For people who are already over there or may know something do you foresee this as a problem.  Because if he cannot get a job we will have been in the longest waiting room for nothing and will not be able to move.  Any advice is very much appreciated.

    Hi everyone

Sorry I haven't posted for a while, things have been hectic for the last few weeks. I've been reading all your posts with the various ups and downs and its good to see at least some of us poms are no longer waiting.

Anyway, our latest update shouldn't change, flights are booked and we're off on Sep 5th. PSS (brilliant) picked up everything the boss said had to be shipped last Friday and the bags are packed. Looking forward to the new adventure and our granddaughter is now crawling, so me and her grandma will be kept fit and active for the foreseeable.. That's it I suppose, I'll post again when we get there.

Good luck with the move.  Well done for finally getting out of the longest and most frustrating waiting room I have ever been in haha.

thanks everyone! Just come on for a quick look before getting up to wait for the removers, who are arriving between 7 & 8.30. We aren't leaving here till tomorrow - staying with friends and out for dinner to our favourite pub grub place tonight. The on to my sisters in the morning, visiting old friends overnight on Monday and actually flying next Wednesday.

things so far that I wouldn't have done? Made all these plans for last minute visits ... Absolutely shattered, should have stayed overnight and gone straight off tomorrow ...

Things so far I should have done? Started chucking stuff out earlier, started trying to get in touch with the B**** teachers pensions earlier (like erm say last year???).

Things I am glad I did? Checklists, photgraphing less crucial docs so I don't have to carry them, redirecting the post - you need to give the post office four weeks notice - finding out ahead of time which banks will let you keep your accounts.

Will keep you posted and thanks again for the good wishes :D

Good luck Fisher1.  I wish you and your family the very best of wishes and good luck to you all.   Please let us all know how you get on and thanks for all the tips.

I have got about 6-10 months left of waiting that is if they keep to the 33 months.  Fingers crossed.

    Enjoy

sooo my understanding (had a reply from an email i sent)  is that are to do a blitz on temp (173) to perm (143) very soon......yay

    will keep you updated.

that is fantastic news.  I am being made redundant in a couple of months and if the visas had gone to plan 12-18 months it would have worked out perfectly.  At this rate I am going to have to find another job to tide me over.  I have not had an interview for 22 years.  I'm a bit rusty.  I don't write a lot on the forum but read all the emails daily.  I am routing for everyone on the Site and hope this information is true as it will mean a lot of happy people desperate to see their loved ones.  My daughter, son-in-law and grandson (now 7) moved out 5 years ago but she is coming over in Sept for a week, so well excited.  Keep your chin up everyone one day we will be there (we might be alcoholics by the time we arrive) will just have to move near a Dan Murphy's or Thirsty Camel.

Hi Angela, We have our house on the market at the moment  hoping to be able to do the same as you, but will be heading out from Spain. Our lodgement date is the same as yours and we will be heading to Adelaide. Hope you don't mind me asking  how you managed to open an Australian bank account as we were told we could only do this when we had less that a year before our visa was granted?  Wishing you luck with  the house sale. Regards Shelagh

Hi. Myself and hubby managed to open an account while on holiday last year my daughter puts money in for me. But we cannot get a bank card until we move over. It was with NAB. Hope this helps. Lynn

  17. Hi Goeff & Gill. My agent did say the visa applications were takings 6 months longer than normal due to lack of efficiency. So yes hopefully he is right in saying it was my last Xmas in UK. But was hoping to move July/Aug as I finish work in June so would have been perfect but its looking more like later in the year now.

    Lynn

  18. I do hope your agent is right, our agent said probably Sept/Oct so hoping but not convinced! Lets hope the processing speeds up.

Hi. Looking at other applicants processing times it is looking more like 30 months. So when my agent said I will be on OZ this year I was hoping July/aug not back end of this year, which is what it is looking like.

  19. I have been looking at your website for nearly 2 years now and cannot believe the wealth of knowledge and friendliness. I lodged my 143 visa application (contributory parent visa) back in July 2015 (18 months of sheer frustration:arghh: ). Is anyone else currently lodging the same visa application are you in the same boat. Does anyone know why it is taking so long. I have a daughter, 7 year old grandson and son-in-law I can't wait to see.

Any information would be greatly received.:ssign16:

  20. Hi thank you for coming back to me. My visa agent and pensions agent have both said that the system is taking 6 months longer it used to be 12-18 mths but now 18-24. Yes thank you will post in the PIO thread. Its great to finally chat to someone going through the same thing, as you feel your the only one out there.
