  1. How is it a no go?

    B

They have said that although she has the relevant qualifications & experience she only officially sent off for her 'letters' at the end of last year (getting her certificates posted to her and rubber stamped) so even though she's been working as an accountant they only count the experience AFTER her letters were awarded.

Which is stupid!? But apparently the rules, do you know if there is a way around this or alternative?

  2. Hello all,

My girlfriend & I are really hoping to make the move to Australia this year. She is a CIMA qualified management accountant with 8 years experience, we were hoping that we could get a 189 visa.

However, today we were dealt some bad news as we were told that due to her only being awarded her letter last year that all of her work experience doesn't count! So the 189 visa is a no-go now with only 60 points and a long waiting list. :arghh:

If there is anyone out there that can confirm this? and also help on a 190 visa. I believe this is the same as a 189 but requires you to work in a specific state? This is very frustrating and disheartening but if anyone can offer some advice I would really appreciate it.

    Thank you

    Patrick

  4. BAD NEWS.

she's a full ACMA qualified accountant but as she didn't get her letters until 2016 they won't count her experience despite working for 5+ years as an accountant!? So apparently we now need a 190 visa? any experience with this?

  5. Hey mate,

I'm CIMA too. It is becoming more recognised over here although CPA & Ca are better know. CIMA & CPA Australia have a mutual recognition alliance, ie a CIMA member can become a CPA by just applying and paying the fees.

I did my Skilled Independent application in 2003, not sure what the current rules are. If you look for Accountant (CPA) on the occupation lists, she should be able to apply under that.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. She is currently doing her skills assessment through CPA and is going to transfer her qualification across. I guess my question is can she bank her work experience while she was studying?

  6. Accountants are a capped occupation, so he likelihood of getting an invitation will depend on points as people are invited on the number of points. So, if she only has 60, it might be a very long wait.

We have calculated that she has 70 points based on experience and qualifications, would this speed up the application at all?

Are accountants not being called forward?

  7. Hello all,

My partner & I are hoping to move to Australia this year and are currently in the process of applying for a 189 Visa.

    She is a CIMA qualified management accountant with 5 years relevant experience. We are hoping someone could help us with the following questions;

    • Is it worth hiring an immigration agent?
    • how long does the process take until you are awarded a visa?
    • Her 'letters' were officially awarded in 2016 but has been working full time as a management accountant for the last 5 years, we have read that particular occupations only count work experience after official letters awarded. Is this the case for accountants?

    :err:

Really appreciate any help or advice

    Thank you

    Patrick
