  1. Hi all,

Finally my turn to post happy news! My PR was granted today. :-D

Timeline: nom/app both applied 1/12/16, 1 person DE LR, Public Relations Professional. No additional documents asked for.

Can't believe it, hardly know how to feel. I hope everyone else who is going through the torture of waiting gets their good news soon!!

EDIT: I applied onshore, have been working for my company for 1.5 years on a 457, but had the ability to apply DE rather than wait. Don't know how they choose to allocate files, but very much hope that others get relief and security soon with their applications.

  2. More rough immigration accouncements today, this time on citizenship. The biggest bummer (in my mind) is the wait time for applying for citizenship has increased, up from a 1 year PR requirement to now 4 years PR (instead of 4 years in Australia on any visa, as it is currently). Don't know how many of you in line for PR were thinking about citizenship as the next step, but I was and am feeling very sad about this change.

My occupation is removed. But since I have already lodged 186DE application so can I assume mine won't be affected ?

Definitely worth asking your MA, but looks to me like you should be ok. On the Removed Occupations, it says that lodged 186 DE applications (not sure about Transition...) are good under the old rules:

On 19 April 2017, 200 occupations were removed entirely from the STSOL. See:List of the removed occupations

These changes will only apply to new applications lodged on, or after, 19 April 2017 for:

See here, under "Removed Occupations": http://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Work/Work/Skills-assessment-and-assessing-authorities/skilled-occupations-lists

  4. Not 186, but related breaking news: Turnbull has just announced that 457 visas will be scrapped and replaced with a tougher program designed to prioritise giving jobs to Australians before foreign labor. Sounds like the new 457-replacement will have many of the screenings that are currently in place for 186 DE.

I am currently on a 457 and am very glad now that my 186 application is awaiting processing already. But a bit scary to see these rules change and wonder what more are coming. They will certainly make it harder for immigrants like us. :-/
