  1. Wow you are taking a huge leap I wish we could do that! How big are your dogS? We are shipping oscar our miniature yorkie and I'm so worried ... he's 1.9 kilos. I'm dreading it

small- Millie is 5 kilos Bonnie a little bigger at 7! Your dog will be fine - more room in his crate for him/her. With air pets if your happy to do some of the paperwork yourself you can get the silver package which was quoted at 17pp for both of mine, so I would imagine far less for one small fur baby!

  2. forgot to mention also we are shipping two little dogs! Total value with pet air U.K. Plus the Melbourne quarantine and other fees are 5000 for both of them! Really expensive I know but worth it! We were going to rent initially but sold our house as cost for relocating just were so expensive! So we have took a leap of faith!

    Good luck!

Me again! Get your dogs rabies vaccination done asap! As only after blood result can they then fly (about 6 months later - if I remember rightly)

  3. PS! I'm shipping everything lol! X

  4. Hi, I am shipping a 3 bedroom house worth of stuff in a 20ft sole container. Cost range from 3400 to 3600GBP, add on Oz quarantine cost etc, your averaging about 4000. The best quotes we got were with John Mason and PSS. Defiantly worth it as the total of our estimated shipping items is 36000. So it's best to get some insurance at 3% currently. We only insuring part of our shipment - the expensive items to replace to keep cost down!

    Hope this helps!

  6. Omg! It's a shame we can't introduce them to each other, before the flights! are you both already settled in Oz? Our dogs fly on the 16th and then we fly the 17th. Had no choice as was not putting them in kennels prior and no family could take them! So it's a massive squeeze for us to find pet friendly accommodation on landing in Queensland before they leave quarantine! Fingers crossed we get sorted!!!

Our doggies will will be fine but like you both I am more nervous about there flight more than anything else! Hopefully they'll all be cosied up next to each other xx

  7. Hi,

can anyone recommend any short term rentals near Brisbane that will allow a small dog? I am thinking we will need maybe 3weeks once we get to Brisbane in November, which I'm hoping will give us time to find longer place to rent. Need something reasonably priced!

    any advice greatly appreciated.

  8. i think it would be fair to say that all dogs are nervous of this journey to some extent, but we have definitely flown very nervous dogs just fine. It is extremely rare for them to be permanently mentally scarred by the flight and quarantine (in fact i cant think of one person who has reported this).

Start the process - you need to start the rabies work at least 7 months before you want your dog to travel and just go for it. Overall, your dog will be less worried by staying with you and going through the short term unsettling of a flight and quarantine rather than going to a new home.

They do cope really very well with this process and the pets generally worry less than the humans involved:)

i really liked reading the above Bob, my two little Ines Millie and Bonnie are flying through pet air on the 16th November to Melbourne! To say I'm nervous about it all is an understatement! But I always felt too that that short term stress would far out way giving them to a new home!

I just hope there both ok as i as I know one will get a wee bit stressed out!!

  9. Hi, I would like some advice please?

my employer sponsorship nomination for a 457 visa was approved 6th sept (took nearly 2 months) I am the primary and my husband is on my visa app too - we are both from the UK and I work in recruitment industry.

i have completed and submitted my own visa application on the 23rd Sept. I am a little worried as I have declared my husband had two motoring offences in 2005 and 2006. Do you think this will have an effect on the approval? I'm worrying a little bit, especially as we paid the fees and private health insurance so far.

  10. Thank you for all your comments X I was getting myself in such a pickle! But your all right what have we to loose! Me n hubby was chatting over a bottle o wine last night as you do lol. And said no more negativity we r doing this and like you said Marisawright we can always come home. We r now viewing it as a massive adventure which maybe short lived or long term who knows? I'm sounding really positive... I know!

Next week i bet im wobbling again but I think that's going to be the case until I'm at the airport and drinking my wine! ....did I mention I like wine:smile:

  11. Hi,

we we have just finished sorting our two little dogs out! Maltese and shih Tzu. There flights are booked and permits granted. We went with pet air which is run by vets and they are so good! The cost is ridiculous more expensive than furniture shipping and flights but would not go anywhere without our girls (we found pet air to be the best cost wise and offer gold and silver packages with varying costs) . U should make contact with pet air and see what's what. U really need to get the rabies vaccinations sorted out asap as they can fly until this has happened (I think it's min 180 days after rabies blood test comes clear - but don't quote me on that) our dogs originate from Dubai, we got them when we lived out there and brought them to the uk, and they seemed OK from the flight. They get looked after on the plane and have a two hour stop over in Dubai (we chose a direct flight to save them any stress) then it's 10 day quarantine and short flight from Melbourne to Brisbane. It seems a lot and we worried about it all, but it will be short lived for them and I know if we decided to find them a new home instead that would be worse for them. So get in touch with pet air and maybe a few more and start the process of bringing your fur baby home xxxx

  12. Can I have some advice please? My employer sponsorship has been approved and I am lodging my own 457 visa for me and my husband (I am the primary) Where and at what point do I get the HAP Number so that I can book the medical? I think I shall be another week getting document in place and wanted to book the medical now as there is a waiting list.

Also did anyone arrange Medicare prior to visa lodge? I am sure I have seen hat we need to provide evidence of this at lodgement? I know I need private medical insurance and I will arrange this with Bupa but wondered about Medicare also? As I thought I would of done this on arrival.

Starting to get a wee bit confused!:wideeyed::confused:

  13. Well I had some good news yesterday morning land in my inbox! My employer approved nomination arrived.

Lodged on the 12th July and received on the 6th September. Now it over to me to start my part of the application process without an agent!

    Wish me luck!

Does anyone one know how long that normally takes?

  14. Re your dogs have you set all of the necessary procedures in place as they need to be done on exact dates close to when your pets fly out

Yes - They had had all rabies and everything done - I started this in March this year. They getting measured up for crates this evening and then details sent to PetAir to arrange their import documents. I think once my employer visa part comes through ok, ill have a better idea of when they can fly and get that booked - most of the latter part of the vet visits (parasite treatment etc) have to be an exact 45 days before flight (you are right) We have the help of my husbands parents - so if it came to the worst and we had to fly to start job - they are happy to look after the dogs and take them for any last minute vet check before flight pick up. I am just hoping and praying it all comes together smoothly. But at least all the main part in terms of dogs are sorted.

  15. It is Queensland - it is a pain, as I was told by Early October I should be ready to board that plane. Now I have handed my notice into work (finish on Sept 16th - as needed to provide two months) and waiting to book furniture and dogs. It horrible being in limbo - waiting to know if and when you can go

  16. Hi,

My Employer lodged a 457 nomination on the 12th July (I was advised by the employer to wait for approval before we go online and lodge our part of the application - as we are paying for the visa ourselves)

Still waiting for a response back - I believe it can take one to two months for this to come back with a yes or no - They are a approved sponsor, so I don't know why its taking so long :-(

  17. As it would be illegal to pay somebody differently because of their visa, I cannot for a moment think why he would get hassle for being on the same rate as a local!

Hi Bungo, it seems you are right and I maybe spoke to a choice few! Had a great convo with an English scaffold manager running the commen wealth site! 457 NO PROBLEM! great pay rates and 80% of workforce managing this project are Irish scaffies! His cv sent over and all looking promising already. Gotta keep positive!

Marisa wright. I am not worried about my role or 457, you do know it's changed to 90 days to find an employer! My job market is always recruiting, so I am not overly worried of the 457 issue.
