I wouldn't recommend starting in citys such as Sydney it took me a while to get job since so manny backpackers are looking for a job at the same time. As well as that don't buy any packages where they give you a sim, tfn and so on just a waste of many. They make it sound worth it but in fact you can do it easily on your own.

I am going to drive from Sydney to Valentines Plains in Queensland on the 4th of July. I am looking for people to share the petrol costs. I will probably take me 2 or 3 days to drive up there, I will stay on free camping places. Contact me if you are heading to any places close or on the way. My route is flexible however I will not drive near the coast as I plan to explore the coast on my way back.
