i understand children need to have their immunisations up to date to get family tax benefit and I was wondering if you can still get it if your children are in the process of getting them updated?

my child needs hepatitis shot in 3 doses, first one, 1 month then 6 months. Does this mean I have to wait 6 months ( when all the shots are completed) before I can get family tax benefit or the fact the ball is rolling to get them up to date is ok?

Just wondering as most ppl coming into Oz from U.K. Are in a similar position as hep B vaccine isn't routinely given to children.

Hello! Just wondering about getting car insurance once we arrive in Oz. Is it more expensive since we will be on U.K. Drivers licenses? I know in the U.K. It costs more for car insurance if you have a non U.K. License..

Also How long does it take to get Australian drivers licenses?

True.. it's hard to say looking at the listings. They look ok in the photos. But there are a few in that price range and every week I'll see a variety of listings dropping prices. Guess I'll have to see when I get there.

There are definitely cheap places in Perth the more further out it is. I'm seeing $280 4x2 ducted air con NOR in clarkson/ merriwa and Quinn's. Some places are even dropping to $260. Some places I have seen have been listed for at least 2 months up that way!

Cheapest I've seen is $205 in banksia grove 3x1 almost new build. It's also been on the market at least a couple months.

I know that it's a renters market in Perth right now but I'm curious about how easy it actually is to secure a rental?

What sort of time frame is it from application to approval?

We don't have any rental references so I'm wondering if it will be harder for us?

Also there are a few in the $350 price mark we are looking at, would it be far fetched to see if we can negotiate $300 a week if we paid 6months rent in advance?

Can anyone tell me approximately how much are government charges/stamp duty/fees when purchasing a car? Is the costs different when buying from a dealer compared to private?

We bought one a few days after arriving. Found the one we wanted, got the price dropped a little in haggling and said sold. Went back next day to finalise paperwork and payment but could have done it that day if we had wanted. We didn't get it checked over by a mechanic though.

Hello! Just wondering if anyone has any information about what Centerlink means by 'newly arrived residents'?

I'm trying to see if we can qualify for a low income healthcare card and it says on residency requirements that 'newly arrived generally have a 104 week waiting period'.

I'm an Australian citizen and my husband is a permanent resident. I've been living away from Oz for the past 9 years. Am I considered 'newly arrived'?

I thought I would be more like a returning resident... I'm hoping someone can shed some light, as I can't see anything on the centre link site that defines it.

How long does it take to buy a car either from a dealer or privately factoring possibly having to get the car checked out by a mechanic and all the paper work?

Ah! Thats an idea! I know people say not to rent from just looking at the photos but a lot of the houses we are looking at are fairly new builds (homes are about 10 years old or less) so I'm guessing they can't be too far off the photos perhaps..?!

Did you sign a 6 month lease or 12 if you don't mind me asking?

Wow so great you secured a rental already! How did you organise that? Was it privately via Gumtree? I heard that its not easy to secure a rental from abroad.

@Alycat I believe by completed application they mean your initial application, so for you the count would be from 23 June (rather than from when you submitted your medicals etc)

I just had a look on the border.gov.au site and it's 5 months for low risk from the date of receiving your COMPLETED application. Guessing I won't hear back till Feb next year

They have changed the processing times on immi.gov to aiming at 5 months from date of lodgement to visa grant so fingers crossed they are speeding up a bit.

this is the best thing I have read all day!!
