  1. welcome bob, you don't say where you are, please be mindful if in NSW, provided the car is under 10 years old and 160,000 kms you are entitled to a 3 month warranty. just be careful when purchasing if you can afford a few hundred dollars get an approved used car.

Reference servicing and service history, unless its been purchased new, people can say what they want never believe a seller, and go with your gut instincts. remember buying private you are buying sold as seen and have no comeback.

It is your money and make sure you are safe with it, I believe a member on here was selling the same said car.

    Chris

Cheers for the welcome and advice Chris.

  2. People do seem anal about getting their car serviced over here, although I've never asked or been asked for the service history.

I don't know what you are paying but I would recommend getting an inspection it's around $250 I think. Or a local mechanic may do one cheaper. We have been burnt three times getting cars second hand and would always get one done in future

    Thanks Pom Queen...

  3. Hello all,

We just arrived 6 weeks ago and are looking to buy a cheap car to get us by over the next 6 months or so.

Ive seen a Subaru Forester, but I'd has no service history. Going to look at it tomorrow.

It's old and cheap, so probably not even worth getting an RACQ Inspection carried out on it,

What are people's views of buying a car with no service history? Will I struggle to sell it on?

    Many thanks,

    Bob

  4. TPG ADSL2 unlimited for $59.99 a month is fine for streaming for me.

If you want Foxtel too,Telstra got a good deal on the bundle at moment which may get you cable which is fast.

    Thanks for that :-)

  5. welcome, iinet also offer naked broadband which means you do not pay for the landline, if you do not need it.

EDIT: This service does take longer to activate though.

Are you going to buy the modem yourself and set it up yourself. This means it would be faster than having to wait for engineers over the holidays. The setup is pretty simple and the instructions on there website easy to follow.

Hadn't thought of buying the modem myself, but may well do if it speeds things up. Thanks for the info...

  6. Hello all,

We landed in Brisbane 2 weeks ago and have just secured a rental starting in the new year. I'm looking to get broadband set up for 7th January.

From my research, there appears to be a wide range of providers, offering varying speeds with prices ranging from around $50 to $100.

I had virgin cable in the uk and I'll be looking to stream movies/Netflix etc.

Does anyone in the Brisbane area have any recommedations for a reasonable priced, yet reliable service broadband provider/package?

    Many thanks...

    Bob

  7. We used Letton Percival. Needed to claim too, was very easy and money in our account promptly.

expect to pay customs and AQIS fees of around $350, more if shipping a car in the same container. Check on any free storage offered as it can be useful.

Ask about shipping schedules in detail, we paid a bit more for a faster route.

Oh and read the small print. Delivery will most likely be to metro area, standard access and max two storey, anything else will incur additional charges. We had to pay more because of a long driveway! ( to be fair it took them longer as it was too narrow for the truck and they had to wheel everything).

Thanks for the info rammygirl. I'll give them a call tomorrow. Cheers...

  8. We are booking a 20 foot container with PSS. Planning on taking all our household effects. We are now looking at insuring and are being asked to assign values to our belongings, but are unsure on how to go about this...

We were planning on insuring the most valuable items individually eg, furniture, electricals, and then assigning a lump sum to various grouped items eg. clothing, books, ornaments, crockery, bedding etc. What we don't understand is if an item within the grouped items is damaged, do they only pay out the value we assigned divided by the number of items we listed in that group (even if that single item was the most valuable item in the group)? And, if we haven't valued everything in our shipment, and they therefore deem our shipment to be undervalued, are we at risk when making a claim.

Any advice on how others insured their items for shipping would be much appreciated...
