  1. Hello,

I'm a doctor from the UK currently working in NSW, in the process of applying for PR. I am confused as to which category my profession would fall into. I work as a registrar, i.e. not a specialist. Should I therefore select 'Medical Pracitioner nec' (code 253999) which will enable me to apply through the 189 visa pathway, or does this code only apply to specialists? The other option is 'Resident Medical Officer' (code 253112) which would mean applying through the state sponsored 190 visa pathway.

    Many thanks,

    Anna

  2. Thanks all for the advice, have booked academic just to be safe as am applying for the skilled visa as a medical professional. As far as I'm aware I only need to get a 7+ in all domains in order to have enough points to apply but this way I'll be covered if it is needed for skills assessment too hopefully.

  3. Hi Anna,

Either the Academic or General versions of IELTS test are acceptable to the DIBP.

    Kind Regards,

    Sina

Thanks very much for the advice, have now booked the test. Glad to hear it doesn't matter whether I do academic or general.

  4. Hi,

I've been working as a doctor in NSW for 2 years and am currently getting ready to apply for skilled 189 visa. As I have only worked for 2 years in the UK and 2 years in Australia, I need to sit the IELTS to get enough points to apply. For a skilled visa do I need to sit the general or academic test?

    Thanks,

    Anna
