I had my full tool box and tools shipped in the container supplied by Anglo pacific. I paid extra £100 to have it cased to protect it. I washed all my tools by hand in jelis fluid and got them as clean as possible. We container lands in dock they will deliver your container but not the tools- too heavy. So I rented a ute for $70 and drove to dock, pulled all the draws inc tools, stacked in the back and drove to our rental. Worth every penny and hassle because apart from snap on calling at your workplace no one else will, and there is not a great selection of tools- bring what you can.

  4. we had a nightmare with our caravan importing it in.
we used ship fromuk.com and paid to have it externally cleaned when it reached the port from our house . we paid to have it loaded onto a tailer from our house , but when they picked it up he came in a van with a tow ball, so it was towed down .

when the van finally reached brisbane it got held up in do to it having grass seed and silver birch seeds all over the top and round the leg braces, so they took my money but didn't clean it . so i have to pay a fee to clean it and to get the inspectors back out to inspect it.

Once released we applied for a unlicensed  vehicle permit at queenlands roads , as it took so long for the caravan to arrive and clear, we had been in brisbane for 2 1/2 months and could find work but hubby had ben offered a job in Melbourne so we had to tow it all the way down from sunshine coast to melbounre  in 5 days (never again) using very expensive UVP's all the time. by the time we had driven all that way in a short space of time (with no air con for most of it in 36c heat! as the compressor went) and living in the caravan for 2 months , we decided we had had enough of caravanning lol- plus we couldn't find a house with a driveway big enough to take a van and a car so we had to pay storage fees which we couldn't afford. so we managed to sell it 6 months later- not very quickly i might add.
we had a nightmare trying to get it all compliance. the electricians and gas fitters didn't know what needed to be done even though they had been advised that it was a caravan so they could have done their research. in the end , after several gas fitters and electricians we had the van certified and a chain fitted.
if we could have stayed on sunshine coast we could have got it all done in one place, however as soon as our caravan was freed we had to 'move on'

Can I ask who you was going to use on the Sunshine Coast for compliance. We are finding it a task for one company to do everything.
    Cheers

  5. Hi,

We arrived from UK in September 2016. We stayed with friends on the Gold Coast for 7 weeks. We brought £10k and with that bought my wife's car (2011 Hyundai 120 ($7.1K)), paid years insurance, sorted new mobile phones each, sorted driving licences and enjoyed the first few weeks with our 7 and 4 year old, albeit we were careful. We decided to settle on the Sunshine Coast after looking around north and south of Brisbane. We transferred another £10K over 2 months later for bond money for rental ($2k), first few weeks rental, school uniforms etc, my car (4X4 Nissan Patrol ($9K plus insurance) and by this time I'd had a job for a couple of weeks. We've been careful with money until my wife managed to get some work last month. We will transfer the rest if/when needed for a deposit on a house. Hope that helps

PS. we also paid a full years worth of car insurance for both vehicles with this money too. So in a nutshell, £20k plus a couple of months work sufficed.

  7. Hi 99Redballs, My van has been here 4 months, but with Brexit we have been in no rush to comply the van. Now we have made some Australian dollar we have started looking around.

On the Sunshine coast people and companies do what they want to do and when they want to do it, and sometime don't even decide to turn up or ring you. Rant over

Will keep everyone updated when it happens.

    Sorry for the short reply

    Jeff

  8. Just a quick update - Caravan in my yard on the sunshine coast.

    1. Shipping company used - Anglo Pacific -shipped in 40ft high cube with personal effects - Trafford park to Brisbane £5500 plus insurance @ 3% - Would Recommend.

    2. Caravan owned by our self's for just 12 months before shipping date.Applied under Personal import /under small road trailer.

    3. Shipping company here in Australia tried to charge import duty and Gst - Be persistent and make sure you fill in unaccompanied effects statement before hand- No Charges or cleaning charges.

    4. When our shipping container arrived and cleared customs etc - Personal effects delivered to our rental door and unpacked onto flat surface and furniture rebuilt - No extra charge even with us being over 30mile from the port. Check and confirm with your shipping company this applies.

    5. Caravan was cleared around 2 weeks after and I was phoned to pick it up. I went to Queensland transport office for a day road permit which I was refused because of no compliance. So I got prices of around $500 to pick it up on a car transporter. This never happened, so I hired a ute for $70 plus fuel for the day and picked the van up myself and towed it back illegally, apparently. lol

    6. Van not complied yet, so we have not moved it yet. Gas guy coming on Friday to quote. Finger crossed

    Hope this helps

Will call back soon to update on compliance

    Regards Jeff

  11. HI JAZZY JEFF , just came back on to re-read what metoo had written.

just in the process now of picking an exporter and filling the online forms out for the authorities.

i was going to get the steel braiding done here, not sure if the regulator need replacing too?

also the safety chain needs changing but i'll let them do that as no idea what type of chain they require.

Hi 99redballs. My caravan is going with Anglo pacific. I found a guy in the gold coast who will get the van to compliance.

1st tier gas fitter to change the gas line from olive fittings to flare fitting, fit new regulator with additional testing point and to fit braided hose to gas bottles.

2nd gas engineer to certify all gas appliances

Garage to weld or bolt on towing chains

Electrician to change sockets and to certify.

    I think that's about it - Hopefully

Not cheap but still worth it. Around $2500 - $3000.

I have fitted 2 100watt solar panels myself and all up and running.

Next the big clean up and deliver to Trafford park for shipping.

Once I get it there I am going to see if I can get a permit to move it to our destination and shop about,

but part of the import licence online form ask for the person who is going to comply the caravan.

Let you all know how things proceed.

    Regards Jeff

  12. We imported a campervan, all I can say is don't, just don't. It is not worth the money or heartache. We spent about 8k importing ours.

Hi Melbourne, I take it you got 5% duties and 10% GST and possibly 33% luxury tax(if over a certain value)as its motorised. Caravan are treated differently, no duties or GST as long as you have owned it for 12 months or more. Sorry to here you bad experience.

I will update the forum after we import out caravan in July 16 of all the costs involved and who we used.

  13. Hi Bigjohn72. the caravan we are considering is a 2007 Abbey GTS 418, what caravan did you take? just to compare compliance. Where you allowed a permit to take to anyone you wish for compliance etc. People have very conflicting advise so you advice is greatly appreciated. We have owned over 12 month so does this allow you to escape tax and GST? What import do you apply under small trailers or personal import? Regards Jeff

  14. Thanks for the reply. Spoken to a shipping company from Brisbane and they can help me with compliance to Australian standards but for a fee of $2500. Seems a little steep. How do you pick the van up from customs without compliance and insurance ? Cheers Jeff
