  1. The individual has been charged now anyway and for sure sounds like an obsession based crime. As for the arabic chant so many people these days seem to want to hear what they want to hear and maybe not what was actually said. Even if what was said was actually said does not mean a common phrase in the arab or islamic world makes everyone there a terrorist and if said in this case more likely said for effect, although none of us here were there so these are just opinions much like the press reports.

  2. "This is what is wrong with the UK"

I’m not a royalist. I have issues with an unelected second chamber of parliament, hereditary peers and a two tier education system that is skewed to where you live/ where you can afford to live. But I don’t think any of those things define what is ‘wrong’ with the UK – foodbanks, increased numbers of homeless, the scale of economic inequality are all much stronger contenders if one is needed, imo.

Certain professions probably require an individual to kneel, bow or curtsey to the Queen in a symbolic recognition of her role but, as far as I know, for most of us it is a courtesy rather than a legal requirement. And for the vast majority of people it is relatively easy to avoid, unlike the very real consequences of this government’s social policies. T x

listing foodbanks, homeless , economic inequality issues are not unique to the UK, you could be describing many so called first world countries even the US where these things exist as well. As for the curtsey thing I would think it makes no odds to the queen whether people do or do not unlike the very old days when a period in the Tower of London or maybe lose your head if you didnt show respect to the Monarch. As shown in the photo actually performing a curtsey is not an easy thing to do elegantly anyway versus a simple bowing of the head.
  3. Well seems Thomas Cook are charging more to change than if Emirates direct where would be 300 pounds to change a business class seat booking. Unfortunate as once ticketed not much can do although on Emirates assuming is the saver fare although sounds expensive still seems good value for business class and Emirates worth the money plus little if no difference in fare for the dates on the Emirates site. Could be worse as BA are non changeable non refundable even business class, at least the lower cost bus class.

  4. Plus of course if you split the 30 kg into 2 bags the weight of each bag itself eats into that 30 kg plus fact that checkin may not combine passengers allowances even if 2 travelling together so not 3x20=60 for example. Depends on the checkin and airline. To remove any doubts just call the airline as some do some dont but most dont seem to advertise fact other than max weight per case for health and safety reasons for the luggage handlers.

  5. Gold Coast being a big vacation destination especially Surfers atttracts a big transient population of tourists with all that brings good and bad, the latter the TV shows focus on else would be even more boring day time TV. Behind all the glossy high rises and hotels there are plenty of 'normal' places real people live some good some bad same as anywhere. And as Lady R says look at schools in areas as that can be a useful benchmark

  6. And i am sure you have seen that for the WHV option you need to be offshore to apply https://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Visa-1/417- plus add in the work restrictions as you have noted as well. The main obstacle still seems to be fact as far as permanent jobs go you would be competing against people with experience so may have to accept you need a long term plan to get that experience first. Whether a masters for example assuming in the IT field makes you any more attractive to an employer versus experience is debatable. Maybe a masters and experience but who knows as in some fields can even become over qualified.

  7. From UK border agency site https://www.gov.uk/check-uk-visa/y/australia/tourism not a lot information backing up statement ' might want to apply for visa if have a criminal record' . UK landing card does not seem to ask the question and as Australians dont need a visa for UK guess is one those things have to decide on remote chance of secondary interview at the border where may come up or try the visa which might not be successful.

  8.

Why you think so? I am putting extra documentation to show ties with home country ...
Nobody on this forum can say whether you would get a visa or not but providing you supply the documents as per the document checklist based on your country of origin then chances are you would expect to get a tourist visa. All I was saying is that once you have this tourist visa then if you arrive in Australia there are some documents that maybe you should not have with you such CVs or employer references as that could imply you are looking for work but as always subject to interpretation at the time. Main thing is arrive with a return ticket , proof of funds and a tourist itinerary. This is my personal view so in the end is up to the individual to decide what to follow through on but to get the actual tourist visa just follow the document checklist and provide the information requested.
  9. Thanks for your advice and help everyone! Finding a job first and then applying to a work visa before going to Australia is the best course of action afterall.

If you have the funding and time make a visit as a tourist as too many people have a vision of the country as their dream destination and whilst a holiday is not same as living there it would at least give you a flavour whether it could be right for you. Just follow advice on being a genuine tourist with a tourist itinerary and nothing else.
