  1. Hi I agree with your 'thoughts' ,when reading about what some people expect when they get to Australia is laughable ,wife works in uk but doesn't want to in Aussie or wants less hours wants4bed house with swimming pool(,never got in uk ) it don't matter where you live if you want something you have to work to get it,and of course it will make a difference where you decide to settle Sydney-Brisbane - Gold Coast-Perth-London- Birmingham- Devon- northeast- northwest,

  2. Hi,sense all the impatience for the April'movers' hang on in there it will soon be over for you then it'll be the turn of the May movers to get hyped !! had a bit of a schock from my daughter, she sent a photo of a SNAKE outside her front door when she got home from work!!! what with ants ,flying insects, getting bites on the beach, kangaroo using the path fenced off from neighbours, what am I thinking!!!

  3. Thanks Steve, I knew there was something ... I always thought I was a well organised, together sort of person until I discovered immi ... I really didn't think it would happen this fast, and am a bit taken aback that they have asked my daughter to provide the bond money BEFORE deciding whether they are going to give us the visa or not! At least they pay interest on it! It's too late for us to set up our daughter on our account with westpac but luckily we were in London recently and nipped in to their London branch to ask advice. Although they didn't know about the bank draft thing, I did get a telephone number out of them for the actual branch in London, so I think I'll call them today and see if I can set up a bank draft from this end. Or transfer the whole amount to my daughter and get her to set up the bank draft. IF they give us the visa that is.

Does anyone know how long after you send them all their bits of paper they ask for the money?

thanks everyone on here for keeping me sane, I don't know how I would have managed without this site. 

Hi,I'm sure I read somewhere that they don't ask for aos until you have been cleared by police checks and medical?

  4. Hi Fisher, thanks for the info on form 80, I think we actually filled one in with our application, maybe the agent sent it too early. Will now have a search to find the copy so we don't have to start from scratch again, hope we have one!

Our agent had us fill in form80 with the application for visa,if it has to be altered I'm sure she will let us know, only going to Aussie abroad this year last year Portugal, agent will still have form so will be checked before it goes off ?

  5. Hi all

Thanks for all the info about the bond. My daughter had wiled away some happy hours at centre link - and had to provide extra proof of income as she is at the end of maternity leave so didn't have the required pay slip for January ... but all has been accepted now ... which is why I was wondering about the bond payment.

We really have to transfer all the money including the bond to our bank in Sydney now - thankfully weve been dribbling money in all year so the outstanding balance isn't too horrendous. The timing really couldn't have been worse because were going out on holiday in early March and are not sure of the outcome of the medicals.

Just to add a bit of oomph to the whole thing, I got an email from ACRO yesterday saying they couldn't proceed with our police check because I had emailed a black and white photograph instead of colour - how stupid can you get, I copied the passport photo in black and white instead of colour! I couldn't believe I'd done it but there was the scanner still set on black and white! So now we have to wait an extra four days, and its all my fault.

Could I ask if those who have completed form 80 had problems with the international travel bit? I can remember longer holidays reasonably well but when we were living in Belgium we used to travel around Europe and back to the UK quite often for odd weekends and I've got no idea of the dates. I'm wondering whether to attach a note to the form saying that I can't remember?

It WILL all be worth it in the end... Kath

Hi fisher1,centre link won't ask for the bond until medics and police checks have passed so you'll know your visa is going to be granted when they have proof the bond has been lodged, getting there!!! We used photos and passport to get ten years of travel , would odd weekends count?, good luck!

  6. 8. Hi fisher1,I looked t the police check form and decided to print it off,we can take our time in filling it in without putting any dates in yet,get any 'papers' we need etc. Then when it's nearer to send put dates in,get endorsed ,post,.i also came across a form that has to be filled in and taken with us when we go for medicals? 9. Hi Ruby,

We opened a Commbank account over a year ago. Through the last year we have sent money over at various advantageous stages. We have used TorFX and would highly recommend Adam Soloman their to anybody. We took out an option in early November to forward buy a large amount of Aussie dollars at a rate of 2.15 for a 5% down payment. It's a gamble as we won't be in a position to make good on this until we sell our house but hopefully by early May, by which time we're hoping that the move proved a wise one.

The foreign exchange rate is the thing that has caused us most consternation (besides the wait for a visa) and fwd buying was a way of edging our bets.

In terms of tax on the interest (bearing in mind the interest rates are about 3% compared to the UK low rates), interest is payed monthly into the account and a "Non resident withholding tax" of 10% is deducted direct. So if your interest is $200 your a net $180 better off. The non resident tax is payed until you arrive in Oz and apply for a TFN (tax file number)

    Hope this is helpful.

    Cheers

    Phil

thanks Phil, the exchange rate is important and as it ts slowly going down I think it's time to put some away for 2nd vac,if for some reason we don't get visa it wil be in the bank for visits ,we won't be putting house on the market till after meds/ police checks so long time to wait hope rate goes up again by then!! Ruby
  10. Hi Maisie,

Its getting exciting with Dolphin1962 now only 10 or so days away and that also means we move out of the busy month of Mar 2014 (as quoted by Immi)

Early 2nd week of March would be a good shout for your C.O.

I hope we can start and create some space in the waiting room. It will be great to hear lots good news from "The Class of 2014"

    Cheers

    Phil

Hi Phil as your nearly at the end of your travel can you (or any other 'oldie'),give details about banking the fees in Aussie we opened an account when over, minimum amount no cards, have online banking, thinking of starting to send money over because of the rate, what about tax on interest and anything you think might be helpful .ruby
