  1. We are currently in Gloucestershire, in the UK. Not sure exactly where we will settle at the moment. We have booked our short term accommodation in Forest Hills and are looking at Blackburn area as have friends who live in the Eastern suburbs. We have looked at Bayside areas too in particular Parkdale and Mentone but are thinking it would be good to be nearer to friends while we settle in?? How long have you been in Melbourne? Are you settling in well?

I live in Mentone, love it here [emoji173]️ we have been here a year and settled in great best move we ever made. Think I'll always live in bayside, love being beside the beach loads of UK meet ups here too [emoji106]?

  2. Hi everyone, we too are moving over to Melbourne next February, I am in my 30's (just!!) and my husband is in his early 40's. We have 2 boys, who will both be turning 5 and 3 next month! Would be good to arrange some meet ups for when we arrive, although I am sure we will have plenty to keep us busy when we initially move over!!

Where are you moving to and where from Nasacar ?

  3. Hard to believe we were driving to heathrow a week ago. Seems like a lifetime ago... have been in our holiday let a week, but been accepted for a long term rental today, to move into in 2 weeks time, bought a car, got the schools sorted. Shopped at Coles, Woollies and Aldi, got phones setup.. And i've been in the office for 2 days so far and seems like i've been here for ages already..

biggest issue was getting from the airport. Had an SUV hired, but underestimated how much space 5 large suitcases, 4 sets of hand luggage, 2 kids and a wife take up!!!!!!!!!!. got it all in, but a bit stressy after a 24hour flight!!

Welcome to Melbourne [emoji16] we arrived from Scotland 10 months ago [emoji106]?

  4. We did the maths and mostly on that basis decided what to take and not take - shipping is charged by cubic feet so each piece of furniture/box etc. was given a 'shipping cost' and it's then easy to see whats worth taken and what is not. We also factored in whether it would fit in the house we were moving to - it broke my heart to sell our bedroom furniture, very unique and originally bought on Byers Road but it simply wasn't going to fit our much smaller house, same as the four sofa's, just no point bringing them all back, ditto fridge freezer.

In the end though some things made the cut because my OH said I has to stop thinking like an accountant and realise it wasn't just the cost but the time to go out and buy new stuff as Marisa said. We decided in the end on a 20ft container (we'd moved out with a 40ft!) and the packers did a fabulous job of fitting far more than we had been quoted for at no extra cost.

I stayed near byres rd and bought loads of furniture from around there was lucky enough to bring it all with me [emoji106] I do miss good furniture shops like there

  5. Hi all!

My family and I have recently moved from Scotland to Melbourne. We are living in the SE Suburbs by Bonbeach and Seaford.

My wife and I are in our mid 30's and our son is 13. We have also brought our dog with us on the adventure, a friendly cocker spaniel! We would love to meet up with new people and make some friendships. Maybe some of you would be keen to catch up for coffee or something?

Thanks for taking the time to read and hope to hear from some of you soon.

    All the best,

    Dave
