  1. I am an Aussie with a UK driving license and my husband is English. Immigrating to oz next month. We need to hire a car for 2 weeks when we first arrive.

I'm confused when booking hire car do I say I live in UK or Australia? As now I am a uk resident but when hiring car will be Aussie resident.

Also if I want to but excess car insurance from a 3rd party again that's asks if an Aussie resident or not? Any recommendations on which company to use? I use Questor in the Uk but it's only for UK residents.

I have my parents address I can use in oz.

    Many thanks for any advice

  2. Hi

I am Australian citizen returning to OZ in March after 14 years. I need to get a police check done for a new job I will be starting in Melbourne.

Do I get a UK or OZ police check? The OZ says it only checks last 10 years so I thought it would be a UK one but they only seem to do them for uk citizens or for immigration purposes. I have been on indefinite leave to remain visa for last ten years.

The Oz one also has to be applied for in Victoria with an address. The federal police one is only for commonwealth employees.

    All very confusing. Please help!!

  3. Hi

Myself and my OH are planning on moving back home to oz at end of February. I was excited to be recently offered a job I applied for in Melbourne as a hospital scientist in a private lab. I have been working in this profession for 15 years in NHS labs in the UK and 5 years before I left Oz.

Does anyone have any experience with salary and position levels available in this field? Does it vary between the private and public sector? I ask this as over the last 6 months looking most jobs are advertised at level 1 but then ask for lots of experience. My skills would reflect a level 3.

The job I have been offered has asked for experience but the salary I have been offered is only entry level for a scientist. This offer is below the average wage and is less than I earned when I left the country 15 years ago. They also want me to start in 3 weeks time so it would be a stressful move.

My dilemma is should I just be grateful to have any job and go or should I wait as this is the 1st job I applied for?

My OH spouse visa won't come till about April so in no rush to go till feb/March. My family says I should take it as will be get my feet in the door but I would like to think with 20 years of experience working in some of the top cancer hospitals in the UK my skills should do the talking.

I just worry taking a massive step down at this stage in my career would affect me getting a more senior role in Australia as I have worked really hard in my time in the UK to build up my skills

Any thoughts or advice most appreciated.

    Thanks

  4. Roughly how long did it take people to get assigned a CO? And get info on the dates to do medical and police checks etc. It's been 3 months since we submitted the application online through the immi account. Got a letter/email straight away so it's definitely been submitted.

    Anyone else apply August?

I'm worried there is a massive backlog from all the applications before the price increase in July - so the process is going to take much longer than it is now [emoji22]

We applied early July and only got our 1st email from case officer last week asking for medicals and police checks to be completed after 11th November. So was 4 months till heard anything!

  5. I was wondering if anyone had an comments on using ANZ or NAB for setting up there accounts in the UK before heading to Australia and then if they were happy with them once using their services in Australia?

Is one better than the other or both just as good?

    Thanks.

  6. Great thanks for the advice. Our spouse visa won't come through until we are already in oz as only applied last month.

I was just worried they would think you are not committed about a life together in oz.

My own fault really should have got it a few years ago but after paying for ILR visa didn't want to give them anymore money.

  7. Hi

I currently have an indefinite leave to remain visa and have lived in uk for 13 years. Moving back to oz in February next year with my English hubby. We have applied for his spouse visa but I was thinking I should get my citizenship before we leave in case we ever needed to come back for family reasons.

Would this affect our application for Aussie visa as I stated on the form I didn't hold a passport for another country or can I update this info at a later date.

Or would it be easier just to apply for a uk spouse visa if we needed to come back? (Is it is bad as applying for the oz one)

    Thanks

    Rachel

  8. Hi.

We applied for the partner spouse visa on 7th July, unfortunately after the price increase :(

If only I found this forum earlier!

Not had any emails yet? How long till you get an estimated time period?

Was just concerned lots of people would have applied in June so waiting times may increase for July applicants!

Was hoping to move to Melbourne in Feb so would be ideal if it was no more then 10 months as then hubby would only need a 3 month visitor visa.

    Fingers crossed!
