I am not saying it doesn't matter, but that it would normally take a custodial sentence to be an actual bar to getting a visa. But any record and certainly a recent one like this, will mean extra scrutiny and you need to be prepared for that and allow extra time for processing.
Ok I'll be applying near enough a year in advanced. Thanks again.

It will make the process longer than normal, but no it is highly unlikely to be a bar to getting the WHV. Just apply in good time.
Thanks for the reply, does it matter that the fine (compensation) is for £4000?

Hi everyone,
ive read alot of threads about this but i dont think ill stop myself from been paranoid unless i have my own as the ones ive read aren't for a similar offence to mine.
Back in 2013 i was convicted for stealing from the local superstore i worked part time in, it was my first offence and i didn't go to jail, i got a fine which was compensation to pay back what i stole and 300 hours unpaid work.
I deeply regret what i did, ive never been in trouble at any point before that, i was just stupid and naive and was in debt problems.
Up to this point i have been 100% law abiding, got myself a full time job, started paying back the debt and obviously the fine. I know im not going to fly through the process and get a visa straight away which is why im going to get some character references (2 from the supervisors of my unpaid work and a long time family friend)
All id like to know is, what are my chances?
Thanks.
