Hi all
OH & I arrange get-togethers on the north side - at Aurora Boulevard Park, North Lakes - and the next will be this Saturday, 2 April, from 2pm til you have to go. Those that come have been here from 3 months to about 2 years, so it's a chance to have a natter, a chat, a bbq (if you want to - free electric bbqs available) and find out how others are surviving & thriving!
BYO food, drinks, etc.
PM me if you have queries.
Pat & Bob
Oh no Pat - just seen this! Missed it by a day!

I was asking more because some of my electricals eg curlers and straighteners don't work when I take them abroad and I use a travel plug. I guess it's something to do with the ampage/wattage...what ever the terminology is!!

Thanks guys

Can anyone advise if it's worth shipping electrical items from the UK to Aus? I've got some really nice, expensive kitchen items (blenders, crock pot, kitchen aid etc) and want to know if it's worth shipping them
or if it's not worth it because they won't work properly?! And my BF's blummin PS4 too!!

My BF is the teacher. His speciality is geography and he works in schools where kids have been excluded from main stream education so imagine he'll go back in to that but he might change and just go in to secondary. We're looking to move to central Brissy first to get to know the city and then we're going to move out to the beaches. It all kind of depends on work. So excited though. This greyness is killing us Good luck!

Fantastic! Perth is so beautiful. Definitely keep in touch...it'll be interesting to see how you get on finding teaching work. I think it's pretty tough to find teaching work Sydney way but hopefully it'll be easier WA/QLD. All the best x

Thanks so much! It was a bit surreal. My BF woke up really early and saw the email, woke me up and we were like whhhhoooooooooooooo, then went back to sleep We're just sat on the couch now looking at dates and I think we're going to around the 5th Feb. Where are you going? We're going to have a 2 week holiday in Thailand, then go on to Sydney to see friends and family and then head to Brisbane and hopefully settle there!

I really thought ours was going to be post Christmas now so had stopped checking. Luckily my BF checked this morning. Good luck everyone x

Christmas Eve and we get our grant!!! What a Christmas present that was x

I use transferwise. You get the exchange rate of the day and pay a small fee.

Queenstown in NZ is an awesome place

Wooba and Ceri...you guys both have the most similar dates to me and my BF so we're keeping everything crossed we're soon!!! Great news to everyone who has received their visas recently x
-
I would recommend using transferwise to move money. You get the exact exchange rate of the day and only pay a small fee. It's an app or you can do it via their website. I found the app really easy to use.

We're past 28 days too...and our email from the CO only said 7 days!!

My BF keeps a regular eye on this site. Very interesting reading. Sounds like it might be good to hold off if you can.

Hey!
I'm doing this route too. I'm a Geography teacher in Coventry at the moment I've sent my AITSL application off so am waiting for that now!
Had my IELTS results through today
Listening - 9
Reading - 8.5
Writing - 8.5
Speaking - 9
How are other people doing with their applications?
Anna
Hi Anna. My BF is a Geography teacher too. We submitted our visa on the 8th Oct. Still waiting! Good luck.
-
as you say...good to know. Where did you find the contact details?I just phoned in to see if there was a chance that we might have visas for Christmas. Was told that my application is not due to be looked at again until the second half of December. Disappointing, but I'm glad to know so I can relax for a few weeks. -
Well fingers crossed for both of us this week
-
We submitted visa the 8th October. Co contacted us the 3rd Nov for our Medicals but they had already been submitted. Re added them and emailed them on the 5th Nov. Had one more work reference to load which I did on the 19th Nov and pressed button on Immi account that day.

When did you submit your visa application?

Ahhhh I know isn't it!! Keeping everything crossed for this week...

We have had a great week so far - how great is this weather - now just need to meet some people We're living in Kangaroo Point at the moment but moving to New Farm soon.
