The thing is that my contract started on visa approval

Hi guys, 

My question is 

We were granted our 457 in July 2016 but didn't start work with the company until beginning of September.

The company has agreed to nominate me for permanent residency but we are unsure of how soon we can apply? 

Is it 2 years from the date of visa grant or from my first day in actual work?
