    Thanks so much Katy x

hey James, hope you can find something. I am also on WHV traveling to Brisbane in less than two weeks. Just keep trying and keep applying. I am sure you will find something. That's what i've been doing. Although, it's hard to find something when your out of country.

  4. hi there. We are going on a different visa - sponsorship, think its a 457? My husband has a job and I am going on his. It actually didn't take long once we got all the right paperwork sent so there was some to and fro'ing . But was only a few weeks once it was all in. We didn't need to do a medical for ours. Is your visa for permanent move? We are sponsored until 2018. If we like it am hoping we can then apply for residency. Where are you guys off to? Good luck with it all!

hello! That's exciting you guys got 457 visa! I am flying to Australia on Working Holiday Visa and would really want to get 457 visa through employers sponsorship. I have over 6 years experiece in Human Resources and hold BA. :)

  5. Hi!

My husband and I are hoping to move to Brisbane in September/October this year. He is 37 and grew up in Brisbane. I am 30, from SW of England and waiting for my partner visa to come through.

We currently work on yachts so are both planning to change careers upon moving. I want to move into accountancy so I intend to do a Masters to convert my Business degree, whilst starting a family. My husband hasn't decided on his career change yet. Luckily we have a house, his family and friends waiting for us so lots of support when we get there.

I can't wait! Just crossing my fingers that the visa gets granted.

Anyone else moving to Brisbane later this year, feel free to get in touch!

How exciting! Hope all works out well for you guys! My name is Alex and I am 28 years old (single). I am flying to Brisbane in less than two weeks! (March 15th) so excited! I am from US. I hold valid Working Holiday Visa (462). I really hope to get 457 visa through employers sponsorship! :) I would love to stay connected with you guys.

    Thanks in advance!

    Alex

  7. No. Not unless you set up a company here and then sponsored yourself, but you would still need a job on the sol or csol and it is very complicated. Not something to be attempted without a GREAT agent. @Alan Collett (hopefully I've spelt that right) would be your man.

Thank you blossom79! I have reviewed SOL list and my job listed there… I'll think about setting up company there, maybe! Thanks for the info. I’ll look into it.

  8. Hi Guys!

I have a quick question: I am US citizen and have small HR Consulting Firm in the US. I am traveling to Australia on Working Holiday Visa(462). While staying in Australia, I plan to work remotely for US company and work in Australia as well. The problem is, with WHV I am limited to work only six (6) months for each employer. What visa could I get so I can work longer than six (6) months while staying in Australia; for both US company and for Australian employer.

Someone said to get 457 visa, but those are given only if your sponsored through Australian company. Is there a different visa I could get? I am 28 years old, not married – no kids either. Is it an option to get business visa? Thank you in advance!

    Alex

  9. 2 and 3 are correct. It doesn't matter what company you are working for....on a WHV you can only work for them for a six month calendar period on that visa. The same thing happened with my brother who was wanting to continue Pt work with his UK company...it ended up being much simpler to just not bother...he didn't want to risk his chance of getting another Australian visa by being banned for three years. It this wasn't the case you could argue why would I need to have a working visa at all...just come on a tourist visa...it's an American company I am working for remotely....why should immigration be involved?

    Thank you!

Well, working remotely for my current employer that's in US wasn’t my original plan… my plan was to get WHV travel to Australia and work there.. just to get different experience, learn new things, etc... But, my employer really wants to keep me on payroll. I am specialist in few areas and that’s why he asked if I can work part-time hours remotely. Just to help them out.

How about if they change my status from “employee” to “contractor” ? Would that make any difference?

I would hate to violate laws and/or get banned from Australia. I guess, it’s better just to quit my job in US and work in Australia. To stay out of trouble.

  10. Well as a US citizen, you need to file taxes anyway don't you? So it doesn't seem like that much more hassle to me.

That is correct. And, I am going to file taxes as always. I just don’t understand why payroll department kept telling me that I will be double tax. Basically, they are saying because I am in different country they need to set up in payroll system so I get taxed. But, I am already taxed in US. And, once I get job in Australia I will get taxed in Australia as well. Maybe they think I am considered as “expatriate” but I shouldn’t right? Since, I am just traveling for short period of time.

  11. Australia and the USA do have a double taxation agreement (I just googled to see if they did) and these things are designed to stop you being double taxed. So I am pretty confident that you won't be, but you will have to find out what you need to do on the USA side when you come to filing.

Being a traveler and being paid into a US bank account doesn't change your responsibility to pay Australian taxes. Would they find out, probably not, but it is tax evasion and you need to decide if you want to risk it.

    Thanks for the reply.

I don’t want to put myself nor company at risk. Definitely want to do the right thing – so I don’t get in trouble. Now, just make me think if it'sworth it? If I’ll be working only 5 – 10 hours a week then maybe it’s not worth going through this hassle. At the same time, extra income would be a huge help! Ugh, can’t it be more simpler! J

  12. I am flying to Brisbane, Australia on WHV. Once i get there, will let you know how things are going with me. I have friends in Brisbane, and they said they had no problem finding job there. It's a beautiful city and not far from Gold Coast. If you want, you will always find a job! Just must have desire. yes, it's more expensive in Australia; however, you get paid more than in your country or in US. To give you an example: In Austrlia housekeeping makes more than receptionist in US. Of course, cost of living is more expensive. But, you can do roomshare, stay in hostel etc...

  13. Hello Everyone!

I am new here and not sure if something similar has been discussed here before; if so – please forgive me. It's a unique situation for me.

I am American traveling to Australia in two (2) weeks on Working Holiday Visa (462). My current employer, (in the US) asked if I will be interested to do some part-time work remotely while I am in Australia. So, I thought why not? Extra income not going to hurt – right?! However, after talking to payroll department and few other folks I heard different things such as:

    1. I will be double taxed; by Australian Government and US Government. I will be taxed in the country I am physically working first (*Australia) and then in the USA.
    2. Because I am on WHV (462) I am limited to work six (6) months for any company – even if working remotely.
    3. Australia and the USA have a tax treaty so that you will not have to pay double taxation if you are earning income in both countries.

Which one is right? Does anyone have any experience working remotely for US firms while on WHV? What are the tax implications for this sort of arrangement?

As far as I know, I can work only up to six (6) months for each employer in Australia. How can WHV (462) limit me to work for US company? Secondly, is it true I will be taxed by both countries? I understand If I work for Australian company, in Australia which is I am planning to do; I will be paying taxes to Australia. Now, if I am permanent resident in Australia and working for US company that’s different and will pay taxes probably to both countries… but, in my situation I am just traveler, and does Australia care where money come from to my bank account? My address, bank account and everything else remains the same. I get paid by direct deposit to American Bank and then I’ll just transfer money to my Australian Bank.

I plan to work 5 – 10 hours a week. Now, If I get taxed by both countries, then maybe it’s not worth it? Any suggestions would greatly appreciate. Thank you in advance!

  14. You need to work out which occupation on the CSOL best fits your qualifications and work experience and there's not much we can do to help you with that. Check the CSOL for each likely looking occupation then refer to ANZSCO to see if the task description for that job is a good fit with your background.

Then, get yourself a subclass 417 Working Holiday visa, come to Australia within 12 months of getting it and be prepared to spend the next 12 months hunting for an employer who is willing and eligible to sponsor you for a 457 (or better still, a 186 ENS which is a permanent visa).

    http://www.immi.gov.au/Visas/Pages/417.aspx 417 Working Holiday visa

If you're fortunate enough to find an employer who is willing to sponsor you for a Direct Entry 186, you will need a positive skills assessment from the assessing authority responsible for assessment of your occupation. When you've identified the CSOL occupation you would be nominating, you could do some initial investigation now of whether you can meet their requirements. Don't apply for skills assessment now (as you may never need it) but it would be useful to know if you're likely to be able to get a positive assessment before you start looking for a sponsor. The assessing authority for each occupation is listed in column 3 on the CSOL and there's a link at the top of the CSOL page that takes you to their websites.

I agree with this post! That's the best option for you my friend. I am 28 from US and also was looking into different options and after talking to MA the best option was to get Working Holiday Visa for 12 months... planning to find employer that extend my stay through sponsorship (457 visa). It's hard to get but it's possible. I am flying to Brisbane in two (2) weeks! I also have BA in Business Administration and worked as HR Generalist/Recruitment for over 6 years... so hoping to find something. :))) Good luck!

  15. No, that's not right. If you're a US citizen, you have a subclass 462 Work and Holiday visa. The option for a second 12 months is only available to people from countries that are eligible for subclass 417 Working Holiday visas. Sponsorship for a 457 is still an option but you'll only have 12 months in which to find a sponsor and apply for the 457.

Thanks so much for the info! I guess when I was doing my reading, I misread it. That is true, those on WHV 462 can’t extend visa for second year just like who WHV 417. Oh well, will give a shot for 457! :)))

  16. Actually, those who from US can extend WHV for second year only if they did farm work for three (3) months. So, I am hoping to get job and do farm work and that would qualify me to extend my visa for second year... also, looking into getting 457 visa. I have BA and over 6 years experience in HR. So, hoping that this will help me maybe get sponsorship.

  17. Thanks, will do! Oh, from UK!? That's awesome. I was visiting London in September 2014 and loved it! Now, achiving my dream visiting Australia. I am planning to extend my visa for second year and stay there at least for two years. P.S. Can i ask what made you decide move from UK to Australia?

  18. Nope, never been in Australia. My first time going there! I see you from Adelaide? Is this correct? I plan to stay in Brisbane for a while; maybe six (6) months and then move to Sydney for a little bit. Just want to explore Australia as much as i can. :)

  19. Thank you! :) Okay, thanks for info! I am new here so didn't konw. :)

I just always wanted to live in Brisbane. It's a beautiful city, lovely weather and not too far from Gold Coast! Also, i'd think winters are more warm than in Sydney. Is it right? I want more sun and less rain. I live in Portland, Oregon and we get a lot of rain - so just need more sunshine. :) \
