  1. Thanks tickled pink. It's really hard to know what to do for the best. Pregnancy is so unpredictable, but you have reassured me slightly.

Would having a c-section lead to extra costs if you were just with Medicare or is it covered if it is an emergency? I still don't understand medical care over here I'm used to the NHS.

  2. I'm not in vic, but it's the same all over, and currently 38 weeks with my second.

If you go public then you won't have to pay for any hospital care. You might have to pay for scans, depending on if you can find a bulk billing scan place. You can take your referral for scans to any scan place, so it's worth shopping around.

Public or or private is very a very hot debate. But if you want to go private most have a 12 month wait period before you are covered.

Also, most people have quite large out of pocket expenses with private (thousands).

Thanks blossom. Not long to go (: you must be so excited to meet your new arrival.

It's the 12 month wait that put me off the private cover. It's good to know I don't necessarily need it.

  3. Hi

I'm in Victoria on a PR visa. I am hoping to expand my family at some point and just need to know what if anything I have to pay for during/post pregnancy.

I had to have an emergency c-section with my daughter if that was the case here would I need private medical insurance?

  4. Hi all

I have just secured a rental in Werribee and now have the pleasure of looking for good Kindergartens. I'm not finding the websites helpful and have missed all the open days. Any recommendations would be much appreciated. My daughter turns 4 this month so its preschool from january she needs.

From what I can make out we are in the middle of Manor and College road kinders, I have also been to the goodstart on Duncans rd.

  5. Thats our one way flights to Oz booked for March next year!

China Eastern flights at nearly £200 per person less were so tempting... as were China Southern at around £50 less per person.. if I was travelling alone, definitely would have suffered the Chinese, but with a wife and kids in tow it had to be Singapore. :-)

Can't wait to start our new life in Melbourne.

So exciting isn't it! We booked ours for April last month can't wait for our new adventure (:

  6. Hi, we are a family of 4, my husband, me and a daughter of 10 and son of 7. We have had our visas for a couple of years, waiting for me to finish a nursing degree. Now all completed we are about to book our flights for April time. We got our visas through state sponsorship as my husband is a mechanics teacher. I will be wanting to know how easy it is for a newly qualified nurse to find work, (I will have 6 months experience by the time I come over), but it is my biggest worry that we find work. Everything else should hopefully fall into place!! We are so excited

We are moving to Victoria in April, myself, husband and 3 year old daughter. Its so exciting isn't it. We are not nurses or teachers but we are hoping to secure work once we are there too.

    Good luck

  7. Hi everyone

I have been looking on airbnb for a rental for when we arrive in Melbourne in April. We have been declined a place twice now one in brunswick and one in seddon ):

I have heard St Kilda is rough but there seems to be loads of nice rentals online. I have a 3 year old so obviously dont wanna be staying in party central or somewhere we dont feel safe. Should I rule St Kilda out or give it a go?

  8. Thats great thanks (:

Its gonna be a couple of years before we have another but it was something we got talking about and one thing we hadn't really looked at. We have PR so we will be fine . Exciting times!

  9. Hi everyone

I am emigrating to Victoria with my husband and daughter in april. Once we are settled ww hope to expand our family. Is having a child expensive? Do you pay for every midwife appointment and scan or is it only expensive if you have complications.

    Any information would be great!

    Thanks kate

  10. We are looking into getting a 'move cube' google it. They have a few different sizes, we are not taking much really so possibly going for a small one. It's not as costly as some of the quotes we have had!!

We are going to look at this next. I was reading a post on it a couple of nights ago, looks good. You can get loads in them as well so probably would just need the small one.

  11. We are most likely going end of March, also with a 2 year old. Want to get her into Kindie as soon as we can as we thought it would be a good way for her and my wife to meet some other mums and kids.

That's what we are thinking too. I'll feel more settled once my daughter has a few friends. We should all meet up in a park for a coffee once we are settled, share leaving stories (:

  12. We are in a similar boat. Moving over in May with a 5 year old and 2 year old daughters. I won't be working at first but I hope to ASAP! There looks to be a lot of choice with nursery/kinder's but I don't know about the funding, I should probably look into that too :)

We can stay in touch and share info (: im not planning on working at 1st either want to settle my little girl. Its all so daunting knowing where to start!

  13. Hi all

Myself, my husband and my 3year old daughter are moving to Vic in April. I was wondering if anybody could recommended any good nurseries in the wyndham vale area. I printed a list off the liveinvictoria site just want to narrow it down a bit.

Also I have read that 4year olds get a state funded place at kindergarten, we have a skilled nominated (subclass 190) visa would my daughter be entitled to this or would we have to pay?

    Thanks

  14. Hi all

Myself, my husband and 3 year old daughter are moving to Victoria early next year. We have been looking at potential suburbs and Wyndham Vale seems ideal due to location to Geelong and Melbourne and property prices.

Would be happy with any kind of input about the area(schools, shopping, transport etc) positive and negative.

    Thanks

  15. Hi Kim what month have you been given to validate your visa. Just trying to work out timelines. Thanks

With greatest excitement, I would like to inform that my Visa was granted last Friday after nearly 6 months waiting. Our agent called DIBP and the CO said we had to wait about 1 or 2 months since I am under internal routine check. Luckily, the Visa was granted just a couple of hours after the call. Can imagine how happy we were then??huh
