I have a disabled daughter, and one of her support workers, who is absolutely brilliant with her in every respect, is in Oz as a de facto on a 457 visa and her partner now wants to "get her off his" visa. She loves her work and is keen to stay, and from my point of view I'm desperate for her to stay given the fantastic progress my daughter is making with her help.

I have a friend who went as a 'disabilitiy services officer' which is the closest thing to a carer and is on the CSOL.

However it is very hard to go under any kind of carer role as they require a certificate 5 diploma and managery type experience which most UK carers don't have. Luckily my friend was a senior support worker and did assessments etc so was ok but they ask for a lot.

The roles she would be looking at are: disability services officer and residential care officer not sure who is sponsoring them but they both require a level 5 diploma. Hope this helps.

It took VETASESS that long to give her a positive outcome that it was removed from the state migration plans (was only on South Australia).

Do you know if it is likely to appear on any of the state migration plans any time soon (I know sometimes you get updates before us).

I have no idea if the poster abused or not and did not suggest that I did know. What I do know is the WHV is for a nominated period from take up and don't see much scope in debating that. As far as abuse goes I would say far more on the visa are likely abused than abuse the system. This visa has grown in numbers out of all proportion and with it the abuse from reports I hear. Just to make clear I am not against it by any means. Probably too many now coming considering the numbers here unemployed but that's another thing. Yes I have come across over stayers on my travels. Would I put them in? (dob in in Aussie speak) No chance.

It is a visa that allows you to stay a year - but you don't have to if you don't want to - you just don't get a 2nd.

You can work - but you don't have to - if you don't you just don't get a 2nd.

It is in your name soley and attached to your passport number. Please explain how this can be abused? Apart from over-staying which is not what this post is about?

Hi everyone. So my husband, 6 children and I are hoping to move to Victoria. My husband is a Vehicle Painter which is listed on the CSOL so we were hoping to get state sponsorship from Victoria and apply for a 190 visa. We were so excited, hubby has 60 points so should be able to get a visa but then we found out we need £40000 savings ON TOP of all the money needed for visas, moving costs etc. I'm devastated. It will take us damn near a decade to save that kind of money. The only state I could find that apparently (according to a forum chat on google so not entirely reliable) doesn't require savings was NSW but they Vehicle painters aren't on their list for state sponsorship :'-( I had vague hopes that perhaps Vehicle Painting might make the SOL again (long shot I'm sure) and we could just apply for a 189 and that would be that but not so.

 

Feeling a little hopeless today. Not sure how to move forward. My uncle who lives in Mooroolbark is 82, I so want to get to Australia and meet and get to know him before time runs out. I need a lottery win!

Most states only ask what you plan to take but don't always ask for proof.

As others have said migration is very costly to the average family, but 2 adults and 6 children is going to be very very steep. Oz is expensive and may take a while to find work money to house and feed 8 people until you find work will require a substantial amount of savings. If you don't have savings such as those suggested you are going to struggle.

Ive been looking into this more, and have been struggling to get the 60 points.... It seems that although i have a Qualification on the SOL list its still difficult to gain the 60 points required.

 

We have recently returned from a trip out to Aus to visit my Brother, we visited the Sunshine Coast all the way down to Byron bay and have come back even more determined.

 

So were looking at the 190 and the 489, we know we want to live in Queensland so gaining extra points through State Sponsorship wouldn't be a problem. We would even live in a designated area as we visited Jimboomba and it was great, nice and quite and not far from Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

 

SO.... as i have been adding up the points i will need to gain 20 points for the English Language Test !! I would then gain 65 points, Pearsons seems to be everyones preferred testing...

 

Can you or anyone else shed some light on this and how easy / difficult it is to get the 20 points Superior English.

Ah glad you have further explored. Well getting 20 points in any of the English tests is harder than it sounds but not impossible.

Is the 65 inclusive of state sponsorship points? Are Queensland sponsoring your job role?

This is all so confusing!! I'm going to be in Brisbane for 3 weeks in October and have some employers lined up to meet so hopefully I will get more of a insight then. Working with children is the career I want to work in regardless if we stay in the uk or come over to Oz so will not be a waste of time either way. A friend of mine moved out to Oz a couple of years back as a childcare centre manager and she didn't have a degree and went on the sponsorship visa so will have to find out a bit more about that. Well if you want to work with kids as a career and want a degree either way that that is brill go for it. But I would definatly speak with TRA about the skills assessment. Your friend could have been work sponsored but the rules change annually so there is every chance a degree wasn't required then. Literally even July they up their game. It gets tougher and tougher. Also employer sponsored is not permanent so it depends on how secure you want to live in Oz.

I don't think that is completely corrected, having spoke to an agent yesterday it's 3 years, voluntary or paid, of which 12 months has to be full time paid work, and this will be counted before or after the degree. For anyone looking to go down this route

Your job role's assessing authority is trades recognition Australia. While I am not a child care manager I am a tradie..... let me assure you a TRA assessment is not as straightforward as your agents has made out. Certainly regarding the unpaid/volunteer work experience advice. May I give you some serious advice for your route speak to trades recognition Australia regarding the process of a skills assessment for the role you intend to train for. For an out right skills assessment with TRA it is 3 years experience after the qualification and it has to be paid and at the skill level i.e a manager. But you may even need to do the job ready programme for your role i don't know... that is a tad complex. Please do speak to TRA before you decide anything.

Also forums advise of the security of the route you are taking so i would like to do the same. The SOL and CSOL are the associated VISA requirements change every year. The role may not be available once you have done your degree or you may not be eligible by then. Please try to focus on a job you actually want to do rather than a job to get into oz with. It is going to be very costly and time consuming only to find out it is removed from the lists.

Do you know how many years experiance I need as a manager? As far as I know if you have a degree it's 2 years is that correct?

Its 3 years as a manager and only work experience carried out AFETR getting the degree counts. Childcare in Oz is really competitive.

Well we will defiantly try! Were going to try everything we can, he's just got his UEFA B licence which is a really high licence to have and is highly sought after so he's doing everything he can to make himself stand out, but if non of this works, is there other options available to be able to stay after we have completed our WHV. Studying or is there anything else, I looked at his brother sponsoring him but his brother lives in Perth so I don't think he is able to.

Tbh while his job is technically on the CSOL you will seriously struggle to find sponsorship for 2 reasons:

1) They are hard to obtain and usually require lots of full-time paid experience

2) You would only secure it while working for said sponsor - you wont get sponsorship by just asking they would want to see you work. It is highly unlikely he would get the kind of job he want on a WHV. WHVs are aim at traveller to do bar work etc.

Plus you can only work for each employer for 6 month on a WHV - not really long enough to convince sponsorship.

Your best bet is work properly and gain experience in the uk after graduation - and apply for a permanent resident visa when you are eligible.

I have other qualifications in childrens care and development at diploma level 2. Would that help at all. I just hate the thought of waiting 2 years + AFTER my degree, that would mean looking at a move in 2018!! . Thanks for the luck!

No they wont help sadly. NVQs are worth nothing in Oz unless they are level 4/5 most jobs accepting diplomas are that level. There are a tiny amount at level 3 at a push... but no level 2 and certainly not in childcare.

You wont be able to do anything til you finish your degree. Sorry.

Fast tracked applications are fairly rare and only done in certain circumstances so there is every chance you wont find anyone here who has done it.

Ozzydreamer nice one that makes perfect sense thank you. The only thing am unclear on is which English test to take what would be the best one to do. I have been told the is a couple and am unsure is this information correct.

Generally people take the IELTS as the TOEFL and PTE are only fairly recently allowed. I have only done the IELTS as the other 2 wernt out when I did mine. I didn't like the IELTS and lots of people hate it. I have heard good reviews about the PTE. The IELTS needs to be book quite far in advance and it takes ages for the results to come back. You can book the PTE test for in a few days and the results come back in about 24/48 hrs so faster turn around than IELTS. Just from reviews I would say the PTE test. The waiting around you do with IELTS is a killer. Not heard of many people taking the TOEFL don't think it is so popular.

You can get the 189 visa without the English test as you are English..... BUT you need to score 60 points to get a visa. You get points for many things like ages, qualifications etc. One of the things you get points for is English language. It is 10 points for proficient English and 20 points for superior English. You MUST take the English test and obtain the requited mark to gain the 10 or 20 points regardless of where you are from. A lot of people struggle to get 60 points without the points for the English language test so you will no doubt need it. Hope that makes sense. If not look at the immi website for what you get points for.

Hi my husband has recently re sit the ielts test can anyone advise if the good scores he got in speaking and listening previously be used in his recent grades or is it a case where the previous scores and done and dusted and the overall score is based on the latest results

but using the previous listening and speaking scores makes overall 8

If he doesn't get the required scores this time maybe try the PTE test instead. You can get test dates in a few days and results a few days later. None of the waiting around rubbish you get with IELTS. Also some say it is easier.... never done it myself but the fast turn around is a selling points

I appreciate that, thanks! Which is why I'm fretting now because I'm such a numpty and messed my EOI will I get a second chance under the 189? I genuinely thought any experience is good experience And in the UK my time as a student EHO and enforcement officer put me in a decent position to apply for the EHO job as the experience is relevant? What a mess I've made [emoji20] I'm in two minds I want to apply and fight my corner but can't afford to lose the money. The VETASSES looked into all my experience and from receiving a positive result thought it would go hand in hand with the EOI! It was only Thursday so these next 57 days are going to be hell?!

Relax. I know it seems stressful but you will be ok. As you say without that extra experience giving you 5 points you still score 65/70 points (double check this so no more hiccups lol) once the invite has lapsed resubmit an EOI listing what ever experience VETASSESS has assessed a relevant and you will be fine. Letting invites lapse ok normal and acceptable and not mess things up. You will definitely get another invite. With the high score you have it should be pretty quick. It should all be resubmitted and visa lodged before the skills list is reset you have 5 years after you validate you visa before you actually have to move so bags of time to sort your partners visa out to be safe than sorry

Hi everyone thanks again for your support and advice! I feel so silly?! [emoji15] I think I was on a high from getting my VETASSES back as positive all by myself I just jumped straight in! Let this be a lesson learnt I suppose! I never really realised that I would get those extra 5 points to be completely honest I was just trying to portray my struggle in getting where I have today I suppose with the current graduate jobs climate! What a dope I am [emoji17] I'm going to let this one go and go through my EOI once I can in the 50 odd days.

 

Because I submitted the exact same work experience info with my VETASSES evidence I guess I ran with that?

 

With regards to evidence of myself and fiancé being together for 12 months although we have been together for over 5 years on paper there isn't a great deal to prove this- we live at my parents, although paying board as my mum calls it, we don't have any contract in place? It's catch 22 we are trying to save so don't have any legal paper work to evidence our relationship! We have a joint bank account however this hasn't been opened for 12 months! I'm getting a little disheartened and I'm thinking I'm going to hold back until Sept until I resubmit again? That way I think we will be in a better position.

J19jjr although my fiancé does work it's possible he could join me on my 189 visa (if we prove our relationship) thus having more security for our future in Oz I understand, anyone correct me if I'm wrong!

If I am being totally honest if you don't have enough evidence to prove you are a couple and he cant be added to your application... I would apply anyway and get the visa. He could go out on a working holiday visa or something until you have enough evidence...or simply stay in the UK til you have enough evidence then get a spouse visa. It is more expensive and time consuming getting separate visas but the skills in demand list is reset on the 1st june every year so there is one coming up... also around that time rules and the process can be changed. The advise is always to apply for the visa as soon as you are eligible as you never know when you may not be! There are ways to get your partner a visa at a later date but getting your while you qualify is important

Its all about common sense really...you are not required to have funds...some people on here have migrated with very little in the bank!

You can actually be asked to show evidence of your financial capacity at the airport when you land. They spot check financial situations. When I made my validation trip I was asked to show funds... my brother who landed the day before wasn't... it is a serious offence if you cant produce what you said you had. Having been in that position... I would advise against lying.

Yes I agree with others only the role where you actually did the job you are applying for should be listed as relevant. You have 2 jobs you should have said no to and maybe your student placement also should have bee no. Over claiming has resulted in a grant if you would have qualified anyway but this is with minor hiccups and a nice case officer... but claiming points for potentially 3 irrelevant jobs is very probably going to fail and you almost 2 grand will go down the pan.... you may scrape by but for that money I would not take the risk. What experience was assessed as relevant on your skills assessment? If those jobs were assessed as ok you should be fine. Only put what ever you had assessed as relevant by the skills authority and you should be fine.

You will get another invite you just need to let this one lapse I think it takes 60 days then you can get re-invited. As for your other post you wont get invited for another maybe cheaper visa on any EOI unless you specifically applied for any other visa. Also as cheap as any other visa is the 189 is the best which is why it is more expensive. I would not go down the sponsorship route if I did not have to.

If you get 70 points without those 5 you will definitely get another invite as that is quite a pretty high score so I would resubmit and relax knowing you will get another invite and wont lose a few grand

You can add your partner to your visa to also get a 189 visa giving him independent PR at the same time but you need to prove you have been living like a married couple for 12 months and of course pay the 2nd application charge. Be careful about adding dependant if there are any health issues or criminal convictions (not saying there are lol) as you BOTH need to pass the police check and medicals or you BOTH fail the visa and lose the fee.Good luck

Hi as previous posters have said it is not easy. You need to look at both skilled occupation list and see which ANZSCO code you fit. As previously said the closest in investment advisor but this is heavily re;ated to dealing with stocks and shares etc which I assume as a mortgage advisor you don't do. So the first thing you need to do it check you match a role as you will need to do a skills assessment to prove you do all of those duties listed in the ANZSCO code. If you do not have a role on either list migration will not really be possible.

If you do have a job on either list then you need to look at points score. You need to be under 50 for the typical migration visas and need to score 60 points. These points come from ages, qualification, years of experience etc. Look at the Immi website and see how you would make 60 points.

We were in Aus for 29 years,went back to the UK October 2013.Came back i November 2014.What a change in such a short time,the cost of living here in Aus is a joke.Compared to the uk.Even rates have more than doubled.The country is in crisis,it's broke,heading down the same path of Greece.Malcom Turnbul admits.Australia can't afford Pensions at the present rate.Australia pays out 2% more than what it earns.Yet this Abbott Tory government is spending billions overseas,has borrowed 60 billion sence taking office,wants to spend $20 billion on more dude submarines.Cuts and Austerity measures is the name of the game in Aus.

I was doing web design/development for about 5 years, but don't have any qualifications to show it.

what if i was to do a city and guilds in tiling which is a 6 week full time course then go work with a friend for 3 years doing that would that quailfy me to get in as i would be 44, would that work ?

To pass the TRA skills assessment you need the nvq 3. I did the 6 week city and guilds to qualify then did the nvqs. You could explore what is offered in your area. Some areas have colleges and work based assessors that let you wizz through nvqs and get your level 3 quickly. My assessor was a jobsworth and made me do it on his say so but some people get faster results which is why I felt you potentially could do it. If you can do it all and have the 3 years experience and lodge the visa before turning 45 it is possible. You will still get age points for up to 44 inclusive I believe.

Another thing to try is see how many years you did web developer as you could possibly pass the ACS skills assessment as they do recognition of prior learning but you need to have 6 years experience. Not sure how the points works after RPL but maybe explore that option to. Look on the ACS website and speak to IT people who could maybe advice on that route. Fingers in pies and all that.

I'm 40 years old and really want to move to Australia but only have HGV licence, is it to late to retrain say as a bricklayer or some other trade ?

Technically no and technically yes. In theory you could retrain at your age is doable and you can apply for a skilled PR visa up until you are 50. The issue is you would not make the 60 points required so retraining would not really achieve anything. I am a tiler and it is one of the quickest tradie jobs to become. I rushed through my qualifications as I works for my uncle so just put me through them and I did it all constant and back to back. Even that took 2 years. You then need 3 years experience after getting the qualifications. On that path you would be looking at being 45. For points purposes you get zero age points. Even getting 20 from the English test, 10 if you went for regional sponsorship and 10 for your diploma that only totals 40 points. You could not make up 20 points in work experience so could not qualify. As ozmaniac said getting work sponsorship would be hard for an overseas tradies with limited experience at 45 would be difficult.

Have you looked through the skilled occupation list and consolidation occupation list. Maybe you have other skills to match a job you had not considered or maybe you have a partner who has a job on the lists you did not think may be on their. The list of skills in demand is varied and there maybe a job on the 2 list yourself or partner could fit to. It doesn't matter who is the applicant.

One thing I would say though is of you do find a role or retrain do consider your retirement. I know at 40 that might seem a while away but you would not have built a decent pot in oz to support you by the time you retire starting out there in your 40s and your UK pension won't be enough to support the oz cost of living so you will need a financial contingency plan.
