What accommodation are you staying in?

I find hostels are great places to meet fellow solo travellers, just make sure they have a communal are where people can chill and chat to others.

I find the best way to get chatting is have a bottle of booze and offer someone some.....always kick starts a conversation

I've just brought a Berghaus 60+10 for my trip. They seem one of the better brands. Would definitely recommend

Im looking to get one with a detachable daypack but not sure what size or make.

What size does everyone use? I was thinking maybe 65l + cos will have sleeping bag etc..

I landed and had $1000, got a job within 3 days and saved up another $2000 in 2 months. I'm working my way around, topping up my cash as I go around. I know people that live off of the money they make busking, so if you learn an instrument or learn to make something, you can always make money!

The best places to look are 'go outdoor' and 'millets', dont know if you have any near you. They are a bit more expensive but they are really great quality and the people there know what would be best for you.

Or try an army surplus store

Im not the strongest, but a 60l full is quite easy to carry if all the straps are on as it shifts all the weight to a more comfortable position. I used one when I went trekking in Wales a few years back

You can get good backpacks that have detachable daypacks, thats what I will go for. Will have to be at least 65l in size.

The best thing to do is when you see one, ask in the shop if they can put some weight in it so you know it will be comfortable to carry when you have all your stuff in.

Can't knock primark or primani!

I think buying a good backpack and gear will prob set me back about £300.

I would be quite content with £2500 +, that would just mean I would have to look for work sooner.

I wish I could only do 40 hours, my basic is 45 a week. Did a couple of 15 hour shifts before so may need to do a months worth of them lol

Really want to get as close to £4000-£5000 as I can as soon as I can

Have you thought of what type of work you would look for in Oz?

I've considered harvest work and maybe go back to working in kitchens. If I ever went to work in new Zealand i could get work on a ski resort a friend works in so got that in the back of my mind.

The saving is the hardest for me I think. Probably gonna be working 70hour weeks for a while to save!

Just wait till you get out there, no point planning too far ahead cos you never know where you will be or what you will be doing.

Just go with the flow, that way you can't be disappointed if things dont work out as planned lol

Well next new year, hopefully still be in Oz, Sydney sounds great! My brother lives in Japan so may visit him, or do what I have done for the past 2 years...sleep through it lol

That guy was in the ssame hostel as me in marrakech and we all went for drinks...think he was about 20!

Thats why I am travelling......as I have just turned 30 this is the last chance I have of goin on a whv.

I haven't really looked into wa that much, a friend of mine that lives in new Zealand said he preferred the east coast and Northern territories and WA was too hot for when he went.

I will just go with the flow.

well i dont know how legal guns are in oz, but if your with a guide and he has a gun.......you should be quite safe ;-)

western oz would be an add on for me really.

plus i have family i have never seen in hervey bay, north of brisbane, so hopefully get in touch with them and that means free accomodation haha

aw mate you have missed out haha you need to do it for sure, especially if your drinking the night before.....waking up pissed/hungover in a tent then stepping outside wondering where the hell you are hahaha

its just like in london, people go on the london eye, but the better view is from the shard or emirates cable car!

i think the highlight of my trip i am looking forward to is a 3/4day trip to uluru visiting ayers rock and the national park surrounding it....camping in a tent under the stars with a few beers or a goon bag haha
