  1. Hi Mae,

We have just moved to Wynnum and really enjoing it so far, looking to buy soon. Agreed you would be hard pushed to get what you want for $450k in Wynnum, thought there are plots near Wynnum North Station that you could look to build on to get what you want

Alternatively You could look to West Wynnum, Hemmant, Manly West that are not that far from the coast but a bit cheaper. Lota is also nice.

When we arrived we spend a couple of months staying in Brisbane Holiday Village in Eight Mile Plains. I found the bus connections to the city to be excellent, and my Brother who lives in a Northern suburb was really surprised how connected it was (there is a real North / South divide in Brisbane). You might find something in that area that is on budget but has the connectivity and also amenities that you would want.

    Best of luck

Thank you ! In not really after the coast and was also thinking Manly West/West Wynnum. Are they nice and good suburbs ? at least they are not that far from the cbd and same as the coast for when my kids want to play there.

  2. Hi, we moved here 3 months ago and been trying to find a suburb that will suit our family. i like Wynnum and Manly but im after a brand new house (3 bed,2 carpark, and a reasonable garden space) within 450k budget and it is impossible to gef it there.

We checked Redcliffe and its ok but quite bad traffic going to the city where my husband works and its already 50 min driving off peak hrs. North Lakes has the kind of estates that im after but it looks far too. . We went to Gold Coast today and realised that suburbs like Rochedale are not that far via M1.

If anyone can recommend their suburb and if its better stay North or South of the city. I have 2 small kids and hubby and i work in hospitality so hours can be really hectic. Also good school (catholic preferably) , daycare , safety and train are the priority in my list. Thank you

  3. we moved to townsville dec 2015 straight from the uk and didnt think that we'll like it. asked a few people( foreigners) on our first few daysand was surprised that they loved if there and been there for years. then after a few months we loved it and 10 months from the. day we arrived, we bought our apartment, thats how much we loved townsville unfortunately due to our line of work, we just left last month to come here in brisbane but we kept our apartment as we know we love townsville and we will come back one day. check out riverview apartment, its in roaslea and you'll see why we got one. good luck

  4. Hi,

To be honest there are so many suburbs within the 3-5kms range of the CBD that cover your requirements. Both Northern or Southern suburbs. Maybe look at New Farm, Teneriffe, Spring Hill Paddington, Auchenflower, Coorparoo, Norman Park, East Brisbane, West End. I could go on and on. Each of these are all great suburbs and would give you what you need. if you need how any further questions i'm happy to help.

hi, which of these suburbs would you say is the safest? and good primary catholic schools? hope you can help me as we are

moving at the end of the month and can only search online at the moment but need to decide on the suburb. with in 30 min travel time to stamford hotel. thank you

  5. Hi,

I've read it's cheaper to use a MARA registered MA based in AUstralia, could anyone recommend a good one as there seems to be hundreds  and a family member got stung twice by American based agents so don;t want this happening to me.

Hello, we used TSS for coming here on 457 visa but we applied 189 by ourselves as it cost too much

  6. Have a look at the following areas near Carindale:

    - Cannon Hill

    - Morningside

    - Seven Hills

    - Coorparoo

    - Norman Park

Is Morningside a safe and quiet suburb? i checked the houses and they look nice but read theres quite a lot of noise from aircrafts? thanks

  7. Hi everyone, we are living in Townsville at the moment and will relocate to Brisbane at the end of the month. We have 2 kids (6 months and a 3 year old) so im really after a safe suburb, but hopefully within 30 min travel (commute) time to City Botanic Garden where hubby will work and he may work late at night. We were thinking as ive read in some posts these suburbs... teneriffe, bulimba, kangaroo point, new farm.I would appreciate all your advice/opinion regarding suburbs to choose or to avoid. Also worried about flooding so please if you can share your experiences would be great.

PS: Anyone knows about the suburb MORNINGSIDE? the area looks nice but ive read 24hr aircraft noise

  8. Hi

    Where are you based?

NAB will lend to temporary residents, it is in their policy, so I guess that either something about your situation doesn't fit there policy or you are looking to borrow more than 80% loan to value ratio (LVR) which is their maximum lend for temporary residents.

Most lenders will actually lend to temporary residents (although CBA won't at all for 495 visa holders), however in general 80% is the maximum LVR they will lend.

There have been some banks lending up to 90% for certain temporary residents however recently this seems to have ceased.

    regards

    Andy

Hi Andy, we are currently in Townsville. i dont know why i was told that we cant due to the type of visa, if its the amount, the banker should have told md that 20% deposit is required as we can give 20% if needed. how do i find a broker? is it expensive? does anybody here know if hsbc can help as our account in the uk is with hsbc. thank you

  9. Yes as said, it is perfectly possible, a few extra hoops but nothing insurmountable.

The question is really whether it is wise, why not work on getting a permanent visa first? There are plenty of people who thought they were staying, but found themselves needing to leave because of a change in work circumstances.

thank you bungo and very stormy! yes we are looking into getting a pr but was just trying to see the options we have and if we can since we can't get a pr from the employer until my hubby stays 2 years from his job. still trying to see if we can apply for 189 visa.

-verystormy it was the NAB who told me i can't without the PR. Can you recommend any broker? thanks

  10. Hi,

We moved here in Queensland last December 2014 from the UK. We are currently renting an apartment and since we liked the place, we thought of applying for a mortgage for a unit in the said apartment complex. We have an account with NAB and so i asked if we can qualify for a mortgage if we are on a 457 visa (because we are planning to settle here in Australia) and i was told we can't until we get a PR. Does any of you had the same situation and were you able to get a property while on a work visa. Any advise/help will be greatly appreciated, thank you.

  11. Not all that sure on children but as an adult the answer is no, unless you are over 65. however any health care costs over, I think $7500 at present, can be offset against tax's. I did this for my aids a couple of years ago and added all my other medical expenses to them too, (Dr's co payments and gap payments).

Go to your local medicare office and ask there.

hope all works out well with her.

Thanks Keith and Linda, how do you do that, i mean to offset against tax?

  12. It does cover pregnancy. We've had people go through it and it was all covered as much as an aussie's pregnancy would be. That means that at some places you will have to pay for scans if you can't find a bulk billing place.

Thank you so much blossom, really appreciate it. by the way we are on a 457 visa, still works right?

  13. Hi! sorry but i have the same problem, we are planning for a baby and we just moved here last December, we came from the UK (but not british) and got medicare for the whole family. I read somewhere that (UK reciprocal) medicare doesn't cover pregnancy. Can you please provide more information on this matter please. GP's, check-ups, scans, Caesarian section or normal (i had CS with my other baby)? Thank you so much! oh by the way we are in QLD.

  14. hi, i can't answer your questions directly but i can somewhat give u an idea. We just moved here as well Dec last year so we just got our first bill last week and for a month we had to pay $128. We have 2 bedroom apartment and rarely use the aircon (roughly 1-2 a day but not everyday and the lil one sleeps with us). The food and toiletries, on our first grocery we spent i think $360 but thats like two of everything considering we have nothing at all. Now we try to stick to a 100 per week budget for grocery which works but we are only 2 adults and a toddler, and hubby eats only lunch at home or sometimes not at all if he has to work early. Hope it helps
