  1. Had the devastating news tonight that out 189 visa has been refused on the grounds that:

    1) We do not have proficient English despite being born and bred in the UK with UK passports.

    2) My husbands work experience as a Quantity Surveyor since 2005 (9 years) does not count as work experience as he only achieved his degree in 2011. He has held a formal qualification of HND Building Studies & Commercial Management since 2008. His skills were assessed and approved by AIQS (Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors) for our expression of interest. How can doing the same job for 9 years not be classed as relevant work experience?

I have read through the points based skilled migration advice notes over and over and I can't see anywhere that states that your work experience is only valid from the time you achieve your degree...

    I am at a loss...

We calculated out points score as:

    Age - 32 (30 points) honoured

English Language - proficient (10 points) 0 points awarded

Overseas employment - over 8 years in the job (15 points) 0 points awarded

Educational - degree (15 points) honoured

Our point calculation = 60 MINIMUM

Case Officer calculation = 45 points

Can we appeal? where do we go from here..... I want to cry :(

  2. Lodged my 189 visa on 15th July, front-loaded everything including form 80, just waiting for a CO. Has any lucky one got CO assigned to already? I have a feeling it will be these two weeks but it's friday already :/

    Hi All!

We lodged our 189 on 2nd July, uploaded all docs 15th July, PCC's and medicals 19th July and we are still waiting... From reading the other threads for May and June i believe there has been a backlog in progressing applications and some people are saying as long as 5 months before direct grant/case officer is allocated... Doesn't make the wait any easier though!!!

  3. My (adult) medical consisted of:

    a) Brief chat with doctor regarding medical history, any family illnesses and any previous hospital stays. They then examine you (check height, weight, BMI, tummy, lymph nodes, reflexes, eyesight, posture/straightness of spine)

    b) Blood tests

    c) Chest xray

Takes no more than 30 mins and they upload the docs directly onto immi.gov.au the next day if there are no problems, so you don't have to do anything. I believe your medical and PCC are valid for a year from date of issue.

    Hope this helps

  4. Yes. Really hard to say. It seems most people don't hear off a CO for at least 8 weeks regardless of what they do. Also in most cases there is usually someone else who has been in a similar position. Maybe you could try asking the same stuff in the June, July and August threads?

Hi, we lodged our 189 visa on 2/7/14 and still haven't had a case officer allocated. We have front loaded all our docs, PCC and medical checks so we are playing the waiting game... Apparently there has been a backlog the last few months from what I can gather

  5. Hi Renne,

I noticed ours had changed this morning too - Processing please wait for the department to contact you.

Another change noted is the medical information line. After our medicals were uploaded it said that 'no further checks were required', this has now changed to 'Health has been finalised for this person for this visa subclass based on the information provided to the department. If this person needs to do anything further to meet the health requirement, they will be contacted by the department. There is no need to contact the department at this time concerning this matter'.

I hope this means that someone is checking over the forms and we'll get a decision soon! (fingers crossed!).

    Eagerly waiting...

  6. Hi Guys!

New to this so bear with me... Paid our 189 Visa fee on 02/07/14 and have front loaded all the documents inc. police checks and had medicals on 14/017/14 although they are not showing on our Immi account as of yet? I read a thread earlier about checking the e-medical site using the HAP ID codes, so i will do that later when i get home from work. We haven't been allocated a case worker as of yet so we too are just playing the waiting game... Excited and nervous all at the same time!
