  1. Yes, it is that bad.

Here in WA it is bad enough that we are leaving as unable to get work.

I spent 5 days at Centrelink (dole office) recently and every day, there were ques out the door and heading down the street.

I am really sorry to hear that Verystormy... Wishing you lots of luck.

  2. Go where the work is. Perth is not good for work at the moment - in fact it is dire -advertised a job at my work for an admin person on website - over 200 replies within 12 hours - not good. Perth is heading for a recession I would not come here now. To be honest I would not move to anywhere in Australia now - the timing is really bad

It's gotten that bad already? I've been watching the economic downturn in China with concerns that it would impact badly on Aus, but I didn't think it would occur so soon... We're not in a rush to migrate (3 years minimum), but these things take some time to iron themselves out... As anyone still in the UK can attest!

  3. Thank you everyone for your replies. I've already been browsing Seek and Gumtree occasionally for an idea of supply/demand, I was just wondering whether anyone out there was in a position to confirm the work situation in NSW so far as plastering was concerned...

  4. Oh really?! Which areas in NSW would you say? Sydney isn't proving popular with the other half, and the only other areas I'm familiar with is Armidale (I went to school there when I was wee), and I'm not sure I really want to return!

  5. Hello everyone!

its been a while since I last posted anything in here, mainly due to being busy maintaining our UK life whilst also furiously planning our Aus life...

To date we've managed to acquire my partners AQF III certificate and are presently getting together all the documents we need to submit to TRA (the paper trail never ends)... However, we were all set to relocate to Perth as that is where we believed the plastering 'boom' was. But the lovely guy who assessed our AQF was of the opinion that the demand was now more in the NSW region - so... Where do we go?!!

  6. Thank you for this thread! I've been wanting to enquire about the pregnancy care in Aus, but didn't have a clue how to word it... We're hoping to migrate in 12+ months & we're also itching to have a sibling for our 18 month old; I didn't know whether to get down to business ASAP before we leave, or hold fire till we landed.

I guess now now my options are to do either... Or both :)

  7. Funnily enough, I was just checking out their website... And their claims of upfront, honest and transparent fees! The very least you'd want from someone with your future in their hands is a quick response... It'd be great to hear from you when you finally find an agent.

And good luck on your journey

  8. Hey all,

My beau and I have decided the time is right to look to make a better life for us in Australia now. I've been trying to do the whole process myself... But I'm struggling to find the time (and energy if I'm honest!) whilst racing around after our 17 month old. Plus my other half (self employed plasterer) isn't one for keeping organised records and paperwork...

So, who used an Agent, and would you recommend them?

  9. Thank you!

We were looking to go via the skilled migration (no sponsor) route for a solid plasterer. I'm a full time parent to our son now, so I seem to be a negative rather than a positive! All my professional qualifications (I worked in the legal sector before moving into not-for-profit) have now lapsed and I'd much rather not work back in that industry if I can ever avoid it!

... But he's definitely not going without us :)

  10. We (the man + me + toddler) have made the decision to follow our wanderlust and make a move to Aus. We're just at the very start of our journey (ie reeling at the cost of everything involved) and so I thought I'd drop y'all a line to say hello and ask for any pearls of wisdom you have...?

    he: plasterer

    me: former charity admin officer

jnr: he's just along for the ride!

Be great to from someone... Anyone!

    V xx
