  1. I have used an agent because aitsl turned me down because i did a SCITT PGCE, as i am an assistant head teacher, regional education manager fitted. My cv and references matched the anzsco requirements but vetassess do not accept my qualifications or employment as being relevant. So even with an agent it seems hopeless

  2. Despite all but 1 member of my family living in oz, an undergraduate degree, a post grad cert and a masters degree and 10 years experience I cant get a positive assessment. If i could afford the 85k tuition fees id do a phd in Oz just to get there! Vetasses say a post grad cert is not the equivalent of a bachelor degree and my experience that i matched to the anz code isnt relevant. Dont know what to do. Very upset.....

  3. Hi, wondering if someone could give me advice. I am 11 weeks into waiting for my skill assessment outcome. I am using an agent. Do i wait for him to contact me? Do agents get updates or do they have to log in? I don't want to keep emailing him if he gets the updates anyway but if he has to log in should i email to ask him to do so?

  4. Thanks Sammy1 & Rachel, my course was accredited and awarded by the University, lectures were at University (1 all day sessions & 2 x afternoons into evenings) and I had 3 school placements where I did team teaching, observations and teaching all supervised by a qualified teacher totally over 45 days. All of this was in the transcript from the training provider but this was not on University headed paper and the letter said 'base school' and when I rang, AITSL said that to them that means I was employed. I will continue to pester the Uni!

  5. I had my SCITT course approved by AISTL but it took some doing. I provided an academic transcript from the SCITT provider. This broke down my teaching placements and assignments into credits and stated the number of taught days and placement days. I also provided a letter from the university which confirmed the transcript was accurate, reiterated my enrolment on the course and stated why they were unable to provide the transcript. Oddly this letter had to be the original copy and not a certified transcript. Keep trying as it seems their attitude to more school focussed training is on the turn as there are rumours of them introducing a GTP like programme in Oz soon.

As an extra note though, as my university had stopped running the SCITT programme by the time I asked it did take me 6 months to get the letter off them!

thankyou Rachel, this gives me some hope! I have now emailed Uni with your suggestions.

  6. You will need to prove to them that you were primarily based at university and not at a school.

How much time did you spend at university? That's really the crucial question.

It makes no difference that you were registered as a full time student, what they are interested in is if your study was school based (on the job learning) or university based with the required number of supervised teaching days completed.

It's tough for sure, but that's the reality at the moment.

My lectures were at Uni, assessed by Uni & supervised teaching practice in 3 schools for 1 academic year. I have emailed Uni to ask for a new letter & transcript. The problem is my Uni no longer exists & I am dealing with the one that swallowed it up. This means that not everything from 11 years ago is still available in the original format. I explained this to AITSL but they are adamant that regardless I need to provide this extra information.

  7. Quoll - you always seem to reply in either a negative or condescending manner. Do you have issues? This is a forum for people who require positive advice, not smart arsed comments, cheers

Thank you for saying this James, I am feeling down as it is & the negative sounding comment from Quoll is not helping. I am after useful advise!

  8. Perhaps because it was more theory based? That is the stumbling block for many. The PGCE must be university based, meaning theory together with school placements.

Long distance study makes no difference as external study in Australia is extremely common (and widely accepted) because of the nature of land and distance here.

There has to be a strong university component and that seems to be the issue for the OP.

I rang last night and they basically said they surmised it was employment based because the letter from uni said I was at a 'base school'. They said that there is no other option for me unless I get another letter from Uni which has deifferent wording but even then they may not accept it based on what they already have. Does anyone know of other routes to a visa to teach that doesn't require AITSL? i was wondering about nomination by private schools.

  9. Hi all i received an email confirming my application is complete with AITSL and will be posted within 5 working days. Later I then received an email from SkillSelect to say i have a message in my inbox. But i haven't submitted an EOI so can't login- can anyone help explain either how i can see this message or whether it means good news from AITSL?

  10. Hi all

i received an email confirming my application is complete with AITSL and will be posted within 5 working days. Later I then received an email from SkillSelect to say i have a message in my inbox. But i haven't submitted an EOI so can't login- can anyone help explain either how i can see this message or whether it means good news from AITSL?

  11. I had the same issue, having done SCITT myself. It did take ages to get a response from the uni. My uni was unable to provide a transcript so i contacted AITSL and they said I would need to provide a letter from the uni explaining why this was and confirming the details on my SCITT transcript, which thankfully they did provide, months later!

This is the info I got back from AITSL, might be of use to you if you end up in the same position:

"If your university is unable to issue you with a formal transcript, you will need to request that they issue a formal statement regarding the qualification you completed. This statement should contain the following:

    • The reason why the university is unable to provide official transcripts

    • The program of study

    • Your entry and exit dates from the program

    • Whether the study was full-time or part-time

    • Brief description of the content of the program

    • Credit accumulated (if applicable), and

    • Duration of school experience component and age group taught during this component (for initial teacher education qualifications).

This statement must be on the official stationery of the university and signed and dated by the appropriate authority (office of the registrar or the department responsible for student records)."

The AISTL accepted this but only as the original letter, the certified copy was not enough. Good luck, they are not fans of the SCITT but they do accept it if you provide enough evidence.

Thank you Rachel, this is really helpful, I will ask the Uni for this type of letter as well just in case as I am still witing to hear from them. In the meantime i will email AITSL.

  12. I'm in same position and was advised that I just had to submit my IELTS score at the point of applying for my visa to prove I had sufficient points. My skills assessment with AITSL did not require it. I was advised to just make sure to have the 20 points before I put in my EOI.

Hi Linda, i am doing my IELTS this saturday but to emmigrate do i still need the positive skills assessment from aitsl?

  13. Your transcript needs to include details and marks for your units, and details of your school placements. You need to have the schools name, type eg secondary, and number of days you spent on placement there.

The AISTL are quite good at responding to questions so it is worth contacting them to get confirmation of what they need it to include. Then you can just forward that information to the uni directly.

Thank you, i did send them that info but because my PGCE was done with a SCITT in affliation with Uni and AITSL wont accept their transcript, so am waiting to hear from the Uni. Just frustrating!

  14. Just had contact from AITSL where they have said that what i sent wasn't a transcript for my degree but this is all the uni gave me. I have contacted the uni again but am confused, i thought the transcript was the units you did & the grades you got per unit. Can anyone give me advice on what to specifically ask the uni for? I need to resend everything and of course this will add more waiting on.
