  1. Does the below mean that there's a possibilty the 2 year period of work will be reduced to 1?

Recommendation 15 - Pathways to permanent residence

15.1 That 457 visa holders be required to work for at least two years in Australia before

transitioning to the Employer Nomination Scheme or Regional Sponsored Migration

Scheme, and that consideration be given to the amount of time required with a nominating

employer being at least one year.

  2. Congratulations! That didn't take long. :-)

Perth's amazing - hopefully you can make it over before the winter kicks in. Good luck with the departure planning - it's stressful, but absolutely worth it (in my opinion).

cheers, it's the poor wife that's got most of the planning to do though :)

  3. That sounds really exciting :-) What line of work are you in. Good luck in your new adventure!

Hi, thanks! I'm a telecoms technician / aerial rigger. I work on mobile phone masts and with fibre optics

  4. Any news yet? Best of luck!

My timeline's below, probably not the best indicator of waiting time, but it's something!

All documents received by immigration and visa paid for on the 5/3/14. Just says processing, my new company said to expect to hear from immigration In four weeks, so another 2 week from now, but who knows! It's been pretty quick and straight forward for the other lads that have already gone so fingers crossed!

  5. Well! my visa is in and has 'processing' in the title, i assume having read other threads that i'm now now in for a totally random and undefined waiting period! lol... wish me luck.. The company i'll be working for says immi will be in touch, when they get in touch, what will they require from me? any info on times and requirements much appreciated.

  6. hi all,

What are the stages i should see in the status section? After i filled in application for 457 it was showing ready to submit, i think new employer has now made a payment as it's showing incomplete, is this right?

    cheers, james.

  7. Hi

My 457 has been applied for and i need to get health insurance, i'm thinking of getting bupa cover, is this a good cover? Also not that we have any immediate plans but was thinking of upping the coverage to include pregnancy & childbirth as i've heard a few nightmare stories, what sort of assistance do you get with medicare for this?

Thanks in advance, james & kristie

  8. cheers, i visited sydney, wollongong & byron areas for 3 week and a week in nz last year cos my wife has wanted to move for half her life, it didn't take much convincing for me to agree.

I started out trying to progress my own visa but got an offer i can't refuse, my wifes best friend moved there a few months ago and we'll be moving in with them short term, it's very exciting indeed!

  9. Found out yesterday i've landed a job in perth and they want me there asap, i'm a wee bit over excited, 101 million things to sort now!

From going to oz in november to deciding to work there to now being in this position has been a bit rapid!

  10. i've booked in fora premium 1 day job in 6 days time, so it would be possible to use the old visa then? I've kinda promised the new employer i'll sort paperwork as soon as it arrives, i'm sure 6 day wait will be fine though.

  11. Hi,

I'm trying to get supporting evidence of employment, i have not kept my p60's & payslips from pre 2009, for a 2008/2007 p60 do i have to contact previous employer or can this come from tax office?

thanks in advance for any info, james.

  12. Hi,

Basically my story so far, i had started making efforts to secure my own state sponsored 190 visa, i have taken the ielts & was about to start getting my skills assessed for aqf3 , then i got the call from an Australian company willing to sponsor me on a 457.

What i'm thinking of doing is accepting the 457 but in the meantime continuing trying to secure the aqf3, my thinking behind this is while i'm still here in the u.k it makes gathering evidence for the aqf3 easier and when i'm in oz this can then be assessed by tra. I'm thinking this is probably the best plan?? Anyone see any holes in this?

While I'm over on the 457 is there anything to stop me applying for 190?

    kind regards, James
