  1. Hi

I am just looking at work options to extend my 417 visa.

Would I be correct in saying that SA,NT and TAS are all classed as regional Australia including there capital cities?

Also in terms of specified work, I looked into it and construction is on there. I am a fire technician (works on building fire alarms etc). I believe this is included also ?

So in summary, does this mean I could do my current job in any of the above states and get my regional signed of by my employer?

    Thanks in advance.

    Boyd

  2. Hi,

I am currently in Australia on a working holiday 417 visa.

I am a fire technician, and work on all fire related protection/detection items. e.g fire alarms, extinguishers and evac systems. I have been working with one employer for the last 6 months with the promise of sponsorship, only to find out in my last week that the company cant do it :( instead of relying on sponsorship I was hoping to gain a qualification whilst in Aus and apply for a skilled independent instead.

I have 6 years experience in fire related work. All bar 6 months of which was completed England. I have a couple of course certificates from home although they are related to British standards so I don't believe I would get a successful result of a skills assessment as is. I have been looking into potential courses I could complete here to get me up to the required level. I have found a course here which I believe would be acceptable.

I believe I would be able to apply under Anzsco 342313 or 342315.

here is the qualification I was aiming to get http://training.gov.au/Training/Details/CPP30811

[h=2]CPP30811 Certificate III in Fire Protection Inspection and Testing[/h]

For fire protection technicians responsible for non-trade installation, commissioning and complex servicing of fire protection systems or for supervision of fire protection services work, the CPP30811 Certificate III in Fire Protection Inspection and Testing is the appropriate qualification. This qualification is suitable for FPA Australia members and non-members, and those requiring licences for the QLD Building Services Authority (BSA) Fire Occupational Licences and the ODS&SGG Extinguishing Agents Handling licences.

I only have 4 months left on my current visa so the plan was to get my regional done and study at the same time gaining me an extra year.

If anyone has any advise on whether this would work or not that would be great.

I have a British passport and if it helps I have an aunt living in Australia.

    Thanks in advance

  3. Hi

I am travelling the East Coast for 4 weeks before planning to settle in Melbourne for a couple of months to work and earn before travelling again. Does anyone know the best way of finding a more permanent accomodation as staying in hostels for 3 months while working obviously isn't ideal. I'm thinking flat or houseshares - or are there specific letting agents that cater to those on WHV?

    Any help would greatly appreciated.

    Thanks :)

Deffo gumtree, im in a well nice 2 bed apartment in st kilda. Walking distance to acland and the beach ?

  4. anyone know how long it takes at this time of year to process a WHV . Weeks/Months? Want to book my flights as have a job line up for 1st june and hope that I am leaving enough time now for it to be processed .

    Thanks in advance

I received my approval within 48 hours when i applied 3 months ago, and thats with a criminal record! So you should be fine. Im also heading out for the 1st of June :) Not long now!!!

  5. O...M...G.....just did a skydive at Hervey Bay and all I can say is it's an experience of a life time. The dive was breathtaking and the views were just amazing. If anyone is nearby or heading there this month Hervey bay skydiving have got a great deal on this month so it's a no brainier!

I did the great ocean road! Loved it, felt sick for hours after though lol!

  6. I'm now well committed to a WH starting sometime this June. Unfortunately, I will only have a bit more than $2500 USD when I land. I do, however, have a credit card if necessary. I really want to avoid using credit if I can. My goal is to top-up my funds a bit so I can genuinely explore the country without the worry.

I have used this forum quite a bit over the past couple weeks. There has been so much helpful info.... just wanted to say thanks to everyone.

Im in the exact same position as you bro! Ill have a bit more money but will still need to get straight into work. Have you thought of getting your agricultural work done first or are you just looking for any job?

  7. From what I hear myself in Oz and on these forums I have formed my own opinion on them.

I dont think you can make great money at any of them compared to working for a contractor/farm. The business model of the hostel is to make you spend all the money you earned back into the hostel. Kind of like a never ending cycle.

As for how the hostels are, many of them are well run and people have a lot of fun there. So the experience is going to be good, but unlocking your 88 days and making money, hmm maybe not so good, as I dont think you will be working 5-6 days a week, maybe 1-3. So what was a 3 month stay now becomes 5-6months

Thanks for your reply. So how woul you usually go about finding work for a contractor/farm? Gumtree? Is there any farms or hostels you can suggest as "the better" places to be around June time from your own experiance?

  8. Hi Guys

Quick low down of my situation. My names Boyd, 21 year old English male. I have always liked the sound of moving to Aus, as everyone i know who has been previously has really regretted returning to the UK. I was out in Australia over xmas and new year, completely loved it and have decided that i would like to return for at least a year. However, if i really did settle i would look at more permanent options (skilled independent visa). So i have gone and got myself a WHV along with a flight to Sydney in June as i had friends there. However due to unforeseen circumstances my friends are now returning home.

After thinking about it i dont think its wise to dive straight into Sydney. My friends being there was most likely the main reason i wanted to return so fast. I think i would be better of getting my regional work done should i want to extend for a 2nd year. This hopefully could help me boost my funds a little if i am careful with my money and not getting drunk all the time :/.

So i have been looking at the harvest trail, along with all the working hostel websites. Checking all reviews and trying to get a grasp of where to go and what hostels to stay in. The hostels have such mixed reviews its hard to tell who is just trying to steal your money and who actually will support you in the search for work. Also i appreciate that the weather determines the crop quality and amount of work available?

I just wanted to hear any experiences you guys had with hostels and finding work? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated?

Location im not worried about as i will move my flight or get an additional transfer.

    Boyd

  9. by skills do you mean qualifications? or the general ability to do your job. Im a fire alarm engineer at home in england and although i have been on plenty of courses none of them will be recognised in Oz. I do however have a wealth of on site experience. ??

    thanks in advance
