My missus has a job offer near Sale, VIC - so wondering what it would be like to move over there from Melbourne. We live in the city with 2 kids, 1 at primary and other two year old - so we thought might be a good chance to explore the country.
- Is it recommended to live in Sale or to a nearby town
- How are the schools - eg. Is St Thomas Primary School good
- We are very keen on bike, so are there good bike trails nearby
- How is the parking and traffic in general
Thanks

Fitzroy is 10m by tram not even from the CBD. U can walk there. Better for u to go on Ptv website to check travel times to get an idea of distances.
Fitzoy is quite hipster and arty and noisy. You said you have a young kid? It might not be the ideal location.
I guess is better if u explain what u after? All suburbs have very diferent identities specially inner-city.
ps - you a consultant?
I am just starting out in Melbourne, but yes - I will be doing consulting. My initial work location is Fitzoy, I just looked through the street view in google maps, it looked like run down area.Am just thinking to live in Melbourne CBD and then commute to my work place.
-
Any idea about Fitzroy, VIC. Is that a safe place to rent in or am I better off staying in CBD and commuting to Fitzroy? Also, is there good public transportation facilities between Fitzroy and Melbourne?

Bioinformatics is nothing like biomedical engineering sorry. Bioinformatics is not a science in need in Australia anymore and hasn't for the past 6 or so years. We send most of our research to Singapore and NZ. There are only 2 departments really naitoonwide that are speciality departments and they have less than 8 bioinformaticians in each. Not a demand for immigrants. The only way in is to get offered a post doctoral research position but those institutes require an extremely high level of international recognition for these positions. So my suggestion is to go to the next ISMB conference and seek out people from WEHI, HFI or UQ
Thank you for the valuable information, appreciate the same. I just looked up for Bioinformatics in NZ LTSSL and could not find any match there too - strange.

What did your friend major in for her undergraduation?
Both undergraduation ( 3 years) and post graduation ( 2 years) were bioinformatics major
-
One of my friend has a Masters degree in Bioinformatics, when I look for it in the SOL, cannot find any exact match. The closest I see is Biomedical Engineer. However, she does not have an "Engineering" degree, but has "Masters of Science" in Bioinformatics. Is she still eligible?

We would be flying to Melbourne in a month or so, and I would be working in and around 180 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne VIC 3000.we would like to live near this place for a month (till we get settled and come to know about the hows and whats), and then decide on a permanent place to move on.
Is this location safe, we are family of 3 with a 3 year old. Any place that I need to avoid while living nearby? Also, any good apartments in and around?

I think you could do better than that... I'd go for 120-125k as a start. I do manage a team of developers in Sydney at a bank but currently (due to budget cuts) we only take on contractors on 3 month contracts or I'd be interested in you as well.
How is the consulting market in Syndey/Melbourne? Is finding a job as contractor easier than looking for full time? I have been working as contractor over the past 4 years here in the US, we make substantially more than what a full time position could offer.
But then 125K + super + 4 week vacation + sick leaves on a full time seems to be a very good deal. Had I got similar offer here, may be I would have never jumped into consulting
-
What city will you be working in and how many years of experience do you have?
10 years. Sydney or Melbourne.

Any idea what is the average salary for Java Architect specializing in eCommerce. I just had an interview with a consulting firm, expecting to have positive outcome - was thinking of asking for $110K + super.

Hi,
I got my skills assessed by ACS few months back and with that i am having 60 points now to apply for PR.
but if I get 4 more months job experience, i will get 65 points which in turn a good move for PR.
My question is, after 4 months do I have to get the assessment done from ACS one more time to get that 5 points or shall i mention the experience in EOI and once case officer is assigned, I can submit the proof for it.??
Really need your inputs here pls.
Thanks,
When I submitted EOI , I had cliamed 60 points. At that moment, my net experience was approximately 10 days short of 5 years. After 10 days, the points got updated automatically in the online application and my points got reset to 65. Anyways 60 or 65 does not matter, you would get invite either way.
Good Luck

Hi Joshua,
can an you confirm if your experience after the ACS assessment date (date of the letter) was allowed for submission? My letter was dated May 2013 and by adding a year on from then in the same role it gives me extra work experience points
Yes, the experience got added and I was awarded additional points.
Good Luck

Hi, I applied on 28th sep 2014. Was asked in November by CO for additional info which I provided. Early Dec I was told I was I month short of the 3 years work experience, and I had until 24/12/14 to submit this- which I did. I have since heard nothing, and have had no reply within 7 days to my e-mail. Starting to worry! Any thoughts or advice? I see people submitting after this date have had visa granted!
I had sent more than couple of emails to CO without much luck - never got any reply. I think once CO has requested additional documents, it takes time to get approval. It took 105 days for my visa to get approved. Also, you need to consider that not much progress would have been made between christmas and 05-Jan. You might just get a straight grant email pretty soon. Good Luck

We are exploring options for moving to either Sydney or Melbourne. My partner has Master of Science in Biotechnology and experience working as Quality Assurance in Pharmaceuticals industry.
Anyone have idea about the job market for this qualification/experience in Sydney/Melbourne? I am personally leaning towards moving to Sydney, but don't mind moving to Melbourne if it has good scope for Biotechnology

This is great news....really chuffed for you. Is it just me left from September now? Last one left.....it's like being back and school in sports!!
I had uploaded all the additional requested docs during christmas and it took a week for them to approve. I hope you get it pretty soon as well :-)
