  1. Hi Raul - yes, we plan to move this year, most likely before summer. We have sold our house already so just a case of resigning from work and packing up! How about you?

Your visa should come any day now! I bet you are well excited! PM me so we can discuss finding work and exchange information on how to settle in better. I'm finding it hard without Martin at moneysaving expert, no meerkats or comparethemarket, moneysupermarket, no amazon, no HUKD, nothing! I don't know where to go for any of this information!

I am in NSW atm, New Castle, got here a week ago, so digging in and getting stuff seen to!

Good luck with the move, PM me!

  2. Ask the DVLA how they do it? We just give them our name and they find us on the system. Why can't everyone do that? Or we could even have a laminated color copy of the licence and that is acceptable too, even in some Asian countries that I have been to, Including Thailand and India! They just need the licence number off it. For age verification purposes, ok, the originals are important, like to buy alcohol, but we can get a photocard for all that couldn't we?

But when in Rome, do as the Romans do I always say! :D

  3. So I went to "Service NSW" service centre in Sydney today, because I had to provide ID verification (passport and address proof) for the 'Working With Children Check' I had already applied for online.

Anyway I filled in a paper form on the spot, she took my photo and gave me an eye-test on a computer monitor -- all pretty hi-tech. I paid $53 for one year's licence. (3 years was about $120 and 4 years $150-something.) She gave me a temporary licence to take with me, which looks like a fancy receipt, and said I'd receive my proper licence in the post within a couple of weeks.

The caveat is that once you've actually applied for a NSW licence, you can't drive in Aus on your UK one... but since you're given a temporary Aus immediately one it doesn't matter.

UPDATE: I also had to show my passport, UK driving licence, and proof of address. In my case, since I've only been in my house for a couple of weeks the only acceptable address proof I have is my first credit card bill, but she seemed happy with that.

I'm in New Castle and went down to Charlestown, to the local RTA. She asked for all the same documents as for you but the difference was that she gave me the licence on the spot with a letter saying that my overseas licence is now invalid until I surrender this one. I did also take it for a year as I think its really unfair for them to charge us every year for our licence cos the DVLA doesn't do that back home.

I was very surprised that the licence has absolutely NO information on it and we need to carry it when we drive (but we don;t need to do that in the UK) . Texas was annoying like that as well, they expect you to have your licence on a night out or even your passport. WTH, who would do that!

I digress, congratulations on the licence, if you can pm me, we can have a chat about jobs & other necessary things, I've been here 2 weeks!

    Cheers!

  4. Sorry about this, a bit OT... I am a permanent resident who just showed up 3 days ago on a 190. I wanted to get into teaching and maybe do an Initial Teacher Training, looking at teaching Business / COmputer Science. Have an CS engineering degree and a MBA. Where can I go to to check if I'm eligible for a bursary/scholarship? Can I do this part time while I work? Cheers!

I'll start my own thread once there is some hope posted on here.

  5. I have lodged my Visa application on 1st January,2015 visa subclass-190 (NSW, SS) and my CO has assigned on 13th Feb,2015.CO requested to me for health examination and submit evidence of functional English of my spouse. I have completed medical examinations on 18th Feb,2015 and uploaded requested documents to my immi account and mailed to CO.How much time could i expect to get the visa for 190...........

I'd give it till the beginning of April 2015. You'll get it before that I reckon.

  6. Hey guys, how you going…

I will be moving to Adelaide in the middle of April & am currently on Seek, looking up jobs in IT & Management. I have an MBA (University of Worcester, UK) & a B.E. Computer Science Engineering. I don’t fancy a coding/software job as I am more of a people’s person. I was looking at getting into IT Support, either at an educational institution or a small company, or an operations management role involving IT (preferably). I don’t want to start too low, somewhere in-between as my wife will be joining me next year & I need to have it all good to go when she gets here.

As dan gargoyle said, what options do I have as a IT professional? I had my own company fixing, building custom rigs, tutoring people on iOS & android, & also helping out at local schools in Worcester & at University for their IT needs. What Centerlink payments will I be eligible for? I will be on a 190 permanent residence visa.

    Cheers!

  7. I am testimony that I have used Richard thru Ryan and I have been granted my 190 last month; it all went exactly how Ryan said it would go.

Richard's name was on everything. The team is professional & answered all my questions promptly. I intend on using them again for my spouse. Anything else, please ask.

  8. Right, I was hoping that someone here would have any news/info for Adelaide?

Or any agents that I can approach? I know in England we have to pay a fee when we like them to take the property off the market for us, but we were caught out when the people initially said fully furnished then said no furniture after we paid them the money.!!!

I'll be flying into Sydney to live with mates for a week before moving to live & look for work in Adelaide. Have a full UK licence but would prefer to use public transport to start with till I get the lay of the land.

    Cheers! x

  9. I think he means that since the visa requires that you first have a job offer from an employer in WA, and since it can be quite difficult to get a job in Australia from overseas and without first having a visa, it can be a catch-22 situation.

And that's the way the cookie crumbles! That's how it is everywhere now. Its really annoying! But, hey, I don't have a choice. All I can do is hope the best, cross my fingers and wait. I have all the other reqs, including 8.5 on my IELTS and a Masters so I'm sure something will come along soon! Fingers crossed. Any MARA agents that I can get in touch with to make sure I don't mess this up? Or any other agents/lawyers that you could recommend?

    Cheers!

  10. Hello Adam! That's bang on! Where is the document in ANZSCO? Could you give me a link please? Yes, its been done as you said. Yes, I intend to apply for a 190 visa. And yes, its at WA. I will start applying for a job once this comes through. What did you mean by "you should prepare for the possibility of waiting for an opportunity that may never happen." ??
