  1. Hi all,

I am really keen to join an amateur soccer team around the northern suburbs of Adelaide. I am in Golden Grove but don't mind a little travel. I'm 28 and I would say 'okish' footballer for an amateur. What I mean is, nothing too 'serious' with ex pro's etc.

It's really bout getting out and getting to know some people in the area. I only arrived last week! I appreciate any responses and hopefully can start training / getting fit soon. I even bought new boots! :)

    Cheers Guys!

  2. Hi Guys,

I am flying out tomorrow night on my 189 PR Visa. I was sat down feeling very relaxed, but my partner keeps asking if we are okay to just simply 'arrive' not having completed any additional forms for visa's etc.

I have the PR letter and I thought we were both on the VEVO system (and that is all that's needed) and we just tick 'PR's' on the arrival card. However, my partners concern is that we used to have to complete the eVisitor online form. I would have thought hat PR means you are 'not' a tourist.

Just need to know 'exactly' what to have with me (other than passport)

Hope this makes sense - Thanks Guys!!!

  3. I don't think people on here love to 'shout' out that teaching jobs are scarce. That's actually the reality here and it is really important for migrants to come with a realistic idea of the job climate and so plan accordingly.

I think for every person (in teaching) that has a great deal of difficulty finding a job, there seems to be another that has almost seamlessly found work. I believe these people to be the ones willing to move interstate - work in country, metropolitan or aboriginal schools - and accept lower positions than what they had in the UK/International School.

I do not have kids and have absolutely no worries about working in any educational establishment or any workplace to just gain an income. I would happily work in a shop / bar / restaurant /agricultural work etc. On this bases, I have absolutely no concerns about teaching jobs being so extremely difficult to come by as all good things come to those who wait and are willing to stretch their job search to anything that pays.

I have heard shockers of people writing over 100 job applications and not getting any interviews. I can say now, that is either extremely, extremely bad luck - or, more likely, a very poor CV/Covering letter that has not been personalised for the school in which they were applying for. Also, many people are so restricted by which state thy want to work in, they cut out another few hundred schools.

But, I agree with you - be prepared to have to work at it, be patient, be willing to work anywhere. ensure you can support yourself financially in case of no employment, but NEVER be scared off emigrating and trying to makes your dreams come true. I have seen some extremely negative comments on forums on the impossible nature of a UK teacher gaining employment- that's BS. Nothing is impossible if you set your mind to it, never give up and work work work for it. This is what we teach our kids and we should start taking our own advice I think.

I am saddened by how many teachers give up their dream because of other people's experiences....make your own experiences I say.

  4. It looks like you apply to be put on the eligible teachers register and if you are successful then you may apply for positions and the schedule for staffing is here http://www.decd.sa.gov.au/docs/documents/1/StaffingTimeline.pdf. Information here http://www.decd.sa.gov.au/hrstaff/pages/recruitment/

They won't find you a job, in fact you may not get one at all - there will be certain prioritised categories that will have to be placed before you. If you're lucky you might get short contracts otherwise Casual Relief. You stand more chance (and earn priority in your own right) if you go rural or remote as those positions are harder to fill. Cracking the first job will be key!

    Quoll,

Your info has been the most useful. I can see from the calendar that I would need to register for PTR by May 2nd, which will not be possible for thi time round. This has completely clarified what I need to do now. Register for TRT and apply for private schools upon arrival. If I need to apply for state schools the following academic year, I will then be able to register my interest. Excellent.

    Thank you for your help.

  5. Hey coolbreeze. Yes we are heading to Adelaide. Sounds up our street and I have a friend there (in flagstaff hill) who has kids a similar age to ours so we decided it would be as goo a place as any to go initially - at least the kids will have ready made friends to help them settle in! (Plus my friend has a pool so may as well take advantage  ha ha).

We don't have a set time to go - I am going to see out the school year (so end of July) but my husband has now come off work to sort the house/packing/paperwork etc and will go as soon as we sell and try to get a job/rental etc. we are hoping we can sell pretty quickly but just don't know in this market! We have to go before march next year (to validate visa) but I really don't want to be going then - ideally it'd be good to be going as soon as work is finished then I will still have a wage (albeit a part time one) for the first 6 weeks of living there so it'll make things a little easier!

going to SA is a bit of a nightmare for teachers isn't it - because of not being able to apply for jobs until after the RAN course and the registration. That's why if we can get sold soon DH will go over first then hopefully one of us will at least have a supply wage (if we are lucky enough!) to support us (wouldn't be quite as scary if it were just me and DH but we have 2 little boys!). We do have a good amount of equity to support us but obviously the less of it we can spend the better the house situation will be.

So why Adelaide? (You been there before?) do you know whereabouts you want to live? Have you you sorted accommodation etc or are you just going to arrive there and see what you can get? (Is it just you or do you have a partner/wife/kids?). July 7th will be here before you know it - how exciting!!!

My Mum's family are in Adelaide already so we have arranged to stay with an Auntie until we get some sort of income. We stayed in Adelaide last summer for 4 weeks to look around at suburbs etc to see if it was financially viable (which it seemed to be). It is myself and partner going over. She is also a teacher so we are in a bit of competition for jobs. We will be residing in Golden Grove area to start with. I am hoping with 2 years international school work experience and being Deputy Head for 18 months I can hopefully find 'something' within the private schools there.

I am really nervous about finding a job as many people on this forum love to shout out how 'difficult' it is to find teaching jobs in Australia. Fingers crossed though. I think we will need to be as pro-active as possible out there and approach the private schools. Hopefully we can all make a successful life out there :)

  6. Hey cool breeze you don't sound like a prat at all - I am applying for SA too and are as baffled as you are so really glad you asked the question! Can I ask you though - I thought you couldn't even think of applying until you have registration (which in my understanding you can't get until you are there). Is this not the case - do you know something I don't? Please share if you do!

    Hi Kooky,

You are indeed correct. I was asking in anticipation for when we arrive. I have signed up for this mandatory course (RAN Course) for 11th July and from there I can actually apply to the TRB for registration. However, before all of this, we need to get our certificates etc certified and sent to TRB so they can send us letter as to whether our qualifications are indeed equivalent to the Oz quals. This letter and the RAN attendance certificate is what you need for registration

    Hoop, Hurdle, Hoop, Hurdle :)

You planning on being in Adelaide?? When are you moving over? We are arriving on 7th July...

  7. Hi all,

I have been spending many hours on the internet on the SA DECD site as well as many forums, site etc, trying to find out the answer to a question I have.

So, I upload my resume to DECD and opt in to the type of jobs I want?? (Permanent, Temporary, relief etc).

Do I have put if preference for subjects I 'think' I can teach....or what I am 'Trained' to teach or what i have 'experience; in teaching???? I have a degree in History, but PGCE in ICT and have taught Business Studies for 3 years too (never taught history).

Okay, what happens next? DO they find me a job? I'm placed there? Interview? provide a sample teaching lesson? I can't believe I would be offered a full time permanent contract with as little as an interview??

I probably seem like a right prat, but there is no step by step guide on how this works. The private schools seem to work in exactly the same way as UK - Advertise / I apply with Resume and covering letter/ Interview/ Appointment.

Please if someone can clarify how employment in the state education sector works, I would be very grateful

    Thanks

  8. Vandeux - We're off on 6th July - the one way tickets are already booked - I've even been pro active in booking this 1 day mandatory course I have to attend before applying for teaching license in SA for 11th July.

Kellie - I would have replied to other posts but I am a lazy git and can never be arsed to type much on mobile phone (I haven't nimble teenage fingers anymore). I'm glad I checked today though as I got see the all important one, the GRANT post. You should get the timeline added in you signature now...it's really nice to just look at how your application progressed. Happy Happy days ahead!!

REMEMBER the two of you Adelaide, if you're in it, let me know!!! Drinks on me! (1st round anyway :))

  10. Yes yes yes yes yes we have finally been granted our 189 visa! I'm so over the moon, I screamed, danced and then cried my eyes out with relief! Oh my god I'm so happy and can finally make plans. Thank you so much each and every one of you for your words of support and putting up with me. I'm still in shock :) xxxx

    Kellie,

I have been checking this thread daily while in Singapore. I miss out one day on checking it and BOOm, you have the visa grant, and now 4 bloody pages of congratulations lol. So pleased for you and your family and the wait was worth it right??? It's like the taste of a fresh, ice cold beer on a hot summers day after you've been hours without a drink..yes...it's that great of a relief!!

so so pleased for you and now I feel my obligation to read this thread is slowly slipping away. There was another business studies teacher on here aplying for grant, and I was very interested in them but forgot who that was now.

Anyways, Kellie, YES YES YES you are now an Australian Permanent Resident!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. Visa granted today!!!! Sent the rest of the docs to our agent at 1:30pm and by 6:30pm we had the grant!!!

soooo happy, it's been five weeks since we applied, but a long hard expensive slog!

thank you all for your advice and sharing your timelines! They've kept me same!

Hey, congratulations - all the best for the future!!! It's a great feeling isn't it?

  12. Coolbreeze- just seen this message you got your visa...YAY!!!! Congratulations!!!!!! I haven't logged in for ages....hope you and your partner are on your way there???

Hi Chami - Thanks alot! Really good to start planning move now - We are moving out on 7th July (just over 3 months) CANT WAIT!!! You already there? If not, when/where you heading out?

Kellie - I think it is good you know the reason for the delay and the fact your daughter would not need ongoing medical care for her hearing means there shouldn't be an issue with them accepting you application

  13. Yes ill give them another call tomorrow if still no news! Xx

    Kellie,

I feel fortunate that mine was done in two weeks after last document, but, I wasn't planning on getting too concerned until it had been over 4 weeks. You can imagine how many cases one person deals with in the offices.

If you have an agent, just make sure they are doing all the leg work of calling etc. Remember, they are are your employee.

  14. Hey am I reading correctly that visa processing times for a 189 skilled independent visa is 3 months? So if that's the case is that 3 months from lodgement or 3 months from meds? If it 3 months from lodgement then I should hopefully hear by mid April as we lodged mid jan. I'm just hoping this whole waiting until 1st July is absolutely worse case scenario!

Kellie, The immi site itself says up to 12months processing for 189 applications - that is from lodgement. Don't be concerned though - most are processed much quicker....you really won't be too long now. What was the date you uploaded the final document??

  15. Does any one know what does it mean by "Your application is under active processing". Does this mean external checks or case finalisation?

I am not sure what 'active' processing means. However, the fact you have called the CO has highlighted your case to her. I would think that you should , at the very least, be higher on her pile to do now....we hope :)

  16. Experts/Seniors,

My application is being processed via migration agent. My agent is not very efficent in email correspondence. I have been following up with them to check with my CO for the progress of my application and found that their emails are not very communicative with the CO. I havent recevied any response from the CO after Jan 2013. I was thinking of mailing to CO to find the progress on my application. has anyone communicated with CO while appointing an authorised person on our behalf. Do you guys think if its ok to email or call up them? Pls respond.

As mentioned above...you really should be contacting your CO directly. That is an incredible amount of time to not hear anything.

  17. Here we go again! Is this going to be our week! ??

Let's hope so. I really don't know what is holding this all up now. Meds cleared over 1 month ago now and final PCC 2 weeks ago. What else is there for the CO to do??? I think they like to let us know, they hold the power.....

  18. Coolbreeze any news? X

Nothing still...another weekend. I almost think the CO puts us aside (as they wait for additional docs) and continues with other applications...then forgets us. The problem is, the 189 allows for 12 months processing. Then, the immi site says 'processing' of an application can only occur once ALL documents are received. That means I could call once a week and would probably get same response....WAIT! :0 :)

    Please Miss...Can I have a Visa????

  19. We got a case officer which was 3 weeks exactly from application!

They emailed agent yesterday and requested a couple extra documents for my partners skilled employment. It's from 2007 to 2009 which is annoying. He left home in 2009 and most of his stuff is AWOL, we keep hassling his poor mum to search the loft for P60's, NI summaries, ANYTHING at all (we are currently in New Zealand)!! We're just trying to get references from his employers at that time.. proving difficult to track them down in all honesty, as they were sole traders with one employee who are now most likely retired.... but we'll persevere! The agent wants the stuff within 20 days so she can submit it to immi within 28... I'm hoping to have it all by early next week (wishful thinking).

Good luck to everyone waiting for the grant email!!!

Good news about the CO. AT least you know things can start moving along again. Hope you get all the docs you need!

  20. Haha - I'm just trying to 'act' like an Oz - one 'chilled dude'. I'm relaxed, but still check my phone for any e-mails every 20 minutes. I hate having to wait on other people, but it will only make me stressed, and time seems to go that much slower, always thinking about it. We'll get it.....just in time.

Yeah, when the email comes through.....much drinking and partying will need to be had....oh yes...then book flights :)

I can't have anyone else beat me to it...I'll end up owing a lot beers at this rate :) Isn't that right Vandeux :)
