  1. Woohoo, woke up this morning to the golden email - 189 Visa Granted!!

Can't beleive it, its been a long hard trek including 4 IELTS tests!

I never used an agent but could not of done it without the help and info passed on from the members of PIO, many thanks.

Good luck to those still waiting.

    Paul

  2. Thanks Inneedofsun, do you know if you can lodge visa and have medicals pre-booked? I don't want to mess things up and make delays. I will send off for Police checks in the new year as I don't want it getting lost in the post with the bank holidays.

    Hi Claire,

once I lodged and paid for my visa application I got a HAP ID. I booked my medical as soon as I got the ID. I needed to provide this to the hospital when booking the medical. This is what links the medical and results to your visa application. The hospital upload the results for you and for me it took 7 days.

  3. Hi,

I'm just wondering if anyone organised their medicals upfront before lodging their visa or wait until medical was requested by Department of Immigration and received HAP ID from them?

I have got a HAP ID through my health declarations, but not organised an appointment for the medical yet, not sure if this is the correct thing to do??

    Thanks

    Claire

Hi Claire, many applicants are completing medicals and Police checks upfront and getting direct grants. My family and I completed our medicals upfront but waited for our Police checks to be requested from our CO. I wish we done our Police checks upfront because it took 23 days in total from filling in the application to getting the certificate. You only get 28 days to provide the requested information to your CO.

  4. For some reason I still haven't received my police certificate, have been waiting for more than 12 working days. I was given 28 days to upload all documents. I have emailed my CO asking for an extension. Do they normally give an extension ?? Now very worried .. My deadline is 31st Dec.

Hi, I know what you are going through. I sent my police checks away on the 2nd Dec and got them back on the 23rd Dec. I emailed them to chase them up, it took them 16 days to process my application, not the 10 as stated!

i would send them a polite email to ask if your application has been processed, that way you will have a clearer indication of when you are expected to receive the certificate. Then contact your CO and ask for an extension (if needed).

    definately a nail biting scenario!!

    good luck

  5. Hi All,

Woke up this morning to find an email from my newly appointed CO. Woohoo!! .

My Wife, kids and I done our medical checks yesterday, so all we need to complete are the PCC's. Hopefully Christmas will come slightly earlier in the form of a grant!!

we lodged our application on the 30th September.

thanks for now and good luck to the remaining 'September Gang'

  6. Hi Folks,

I got my second invite to apply for 189 visa in September. I filled in the application, paid the fee and uploaded documents. I got an email stating that my application is submitted and it is in progress. However, yesterday I got a correspondence through Skillselect stating that my invitation will expire in 10 days. When I log into Skillselect there is still an active button ' Apply for Visa'! I am confused, should I just ignore it and hope all is well or do you think I have missed something? I am slightly worried I have done something wrong and visa will get refused! Has this ever happened to anyone else?

    Thanks in advance,

    Paul

  7. Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum, but I really need some advice on IELTS test.

I'm sure a lot of you are like me, struggling with the IELTS test, especially with the writing category. Here are my results from the various tests that I have took in the course of last year:

    (07DEC13) L 9 R 8.5 W 6.5 S 7.5

    (12APR14) L 8 R 9 W 7 S 8.5

    (12JUL14) L 9 R 8.5 W 7 S 7.5

I need 8 in all category to maximize my chance of gaining permanent residency through Skilled Migration, so I really need to strengthen my skills in writing and speaking, more to the former category. I have tried seeking help from local friends and coworkers and they usually think that I am a local Australian to begin with, judging by my writing and speaking skills. I have practiced numerous speaking topics with them and I have also requested to have them mark my essays for Writing Task 2, both of which always return positive results, that I should have received a better result than a band 7.

Recently, after practicing more on these two categories with them, I have given the test another try and here is the preview of my results:

    (6SEP14) L 9 R 8.5 W 7 S 8

Again, I seem to face this impassable hurdle for the writing task. However, I am really confident about my performance this time. I pretty much made sure that I use a lot of advanced vocabulary accurately, some of which my local friends haven't even heard of (e.g. "Apropos of"). I am also pretty certain that I didn't make a lot of errors.

Do you reckon I should lodge for a re-mark? I have researched a bit that when some categories have discrepancies of 2 bands, they would have been looked through by two examiners already. Would it be worth it to gamble for a one-band increase?

Or, do you think I'm better off trying my "luck" again on another test, but also risking having the same [or even lower] results?

    Hi Haychel,

    I feel your pain!

I also needed 8's in all sections to get 20 points. My writing was always letting me down, I felt like giving up. I was convinced I had done more than enough to get the marks but it wasn't to be. I also thought about applying for a remark, but due to the cost and time, I decided to resit again. I decided to leave in 4 months until the resit and practiced, practiced and more practicing. I bought Kindle books on sample questions and answers, used http://www.ieltsbuddy.com and wrote at least 1 essay a week. I practised my timing, I always spent 10 -15 minutes to begin with to plan and 5 ins at the end to read over and count the words, this also helped with my confidence. I didn't bother too much about advanced vocabulary, I bothered more about answering the question, giving my opinion with examples, structure and writing enough words. I sat it again last month and got an 8.5, 4th time lucky!

My advice would be to not lose hope, practice and resit, dont bother with a re-mark. Also, as of November 2014 TOEFL can be used instead of IELTS. It may be worth looking at that option.

Good Luck and all the best,

    Paul

  8. On my 4th attempt I eventually passed the academic test with the points I needed to gain a valuable 20 points for my visa application

    L: 8.5 W: 8 S: 8.5 and R: 8 with a 8.5 overall

I had to come off the website and log back in as I was convinced I had read it wrong. The reading test has been a total ball ache !!!!

Im still beaming from ear to ear, it has put me on pins for the last 6 months, but boy what a relief now its all done and dusted.

    Yes, well done, exciting times!

I was the same, I logged in and out of the website a few times before it sunk in.

    fantastic news and fantastic scores.

good luck with getting to Oz.

    Paul
