  1. Ahhh I see. Well I am sure you will be okay then. I got confused and assumed you were on the same visa as I am going for. It's been 9 weeks since we sent our application...initial application that is....our visa application has been sitting waiting for the last 3 months!!! Frustrating and testing my patience.

I am on 489 but it has two streams, state sponsored and family sponsored. If state sponsored one is obliged to live in that state for two years. On the other hand if family sponsored one can line in ANY designated area in Australia. Whichever stream the pathway to PR from 489 is via 887.

I know how you feel. Waiting is the worst thing. Good luck.

  2. I am not sure that it is true that other family members need to have lived in the regional area for two years. Obviously if in Australia, they must live regionslly, but if they are outside the country altogether that is another matter. I once saw a poster who had a baby whilst on the 489 and baby had not been alive long enough to do the two years but I don't think it held up their application, although it did make applying online hard IIRC.

The immigration website does not state that the family members have to meet the criteria, although sometimes it doesn't word things well. So no, not sure on this one.

Thanks Bungo. I hope it is so.

In the visa requirements they only say that "you have lived in a specified regional area of Australia for at least two years". They do not say you & family members. Only thing they say about family members is "Evidence that each person who is an applicant for this visa has complied with the conditions attached to their visa while in Australia.".

    Fingers crossed.

    Cheers

  3. Yes my agent said all members on the visa must live in the region for the full two years and one has to hold down a job for 12months in those 2 years.

Thank you very much ozpete. I wish you every success in switching over to the 887 visa. I. Tearing my hair out waiting to hear whether I can send our visa application off. We've been invited to apply but it's taking up to 12 weeks now to hear back from the initial application.

Which region did you apply for? Hope you have enjoyed your time in aus so far!

Thanks Cazwilkins. I applied under Family Sponsored program which is more flexible than regional sponsored.

Good luck with your visa application and hope everything goes well.

  4. I'm applying for a 489 and my agent advised it doesn't matter if it is the principal application who holds down the 12months job or the partner. I'd be interested to know these answers too even though it is a long way off before I am (hopefully) granted a 489

Thanks Cazwilkins. Did the agent say anything about the 2 year living in a designated area rule. Does the whole family has to be here for two years as well? Govt web site only says family members should not break visa rules, but no mention of 2 year rule.

btw your IELTS results are very impressive, all 9 except Speaking. Well done. You must have had your speaking test with a very grumpy person. I cannot imagine a person who got 9 in all others, not getting 9 in speaking!!

  5. Hi All,

My wife and my little daughter are planning to fly to Italy for Christmas to visit relatives. My wife does not like flying alone. I am unable to to accompany both ways due to work commitments. If someone is flying around that time from Adelaide to Dubai would be a great help to have some company.

We have not book the flights and we are flexible with dates, but would like to fly with Emirates as it is the only non-stop from Adelaide for the first leg of the journey.

Please PM me if anyone can be of help.

    Thanks

  6. Dear All,

I am on 489 FS visa. Very soon I will be applying for 887 as I will be completing 2 years in AUS and almost approaching my 12 month work experience. I have always worked and lived in a designated area. My question is this.

    1. Is the 2 year living in a designated area rule apply to the whole family or just to the principal applicant? My family arrived once I have secured a job, as such they will not comply with 2 year rule for another year, but they always lived in a designated area since they arrived.

    2. Do all the family have to be in Aus at the time of applying for 887 or is it enough for the principal applicant to be in AUS. As my family would like to travel to see their relatives for Christmas and have an extended stay as we won't have the luxury to travel often given the high ticket prices.

    3. Finally how long is the processing time? I would love to hear someone's experience in applying for this visa.

    Thanks

  7. Hi, I know the website has been under a revamp last week, but has anyone managed to get onto it using their TRN login today?

It's telling me my account is not recognised, but when I've ticked for both forgotten user name and password I'm not getting any emails to let me get new details.

Anyone else having this problem or is it just me???

    laura

Same for me too!! Not sure what's going on?

  8. Same for me too. It gave me invalid ID or password message. So I requested for a new password many times now but the email with the new pw never arrived. Elsewhere I read in a thread that if you have yahoo mail (I do) there could be problems receiving mails from DIBP. Is it correct? Can someone give me the DIBP contact number from outside Australia. They have only given 131 881 which they say functions only within Australia. Or as you say should I create a new Immiaccount?

  9. I am not an expert but I think you have to include your spouse and any dependents at some place from the following quote stated under Health on document 1119 page 30.

Quote: "If your spouse and dependents are not included in the visa application they must still be assessed against health requirement."

That means if your spouse or child fails the medicals even if they are not on your application you application will fail. On the other hand I don't think they would look kindly at you if you omit now and bring it up in two years time.

  10. Just wondering if anyone has received a similar response from a case officer?!

The visa you have applied for is part of the regional skilled category. The migration program planning level for this category has limited number of places left for the 2013-14 program year.

This means processing times may be longer and that once the remaining places are used, the department cannot grant further visas in this category this program year unless more visa places become available.

I cannot advise you whether more visa places will become available in this category as planning levels are determined by the Australian government.

As planning levels apply to all applications, including those in final stages of processing, I cannot give you an

indication as to the likely timeframe of your application.

in the meantime , I encourage you to check the department's website for updated information regarding allocation, processing and changes to the skilled migration program which may effect you.

I appreciate your patience in this matter.

    Regards

    .......

anyone please??? Any ideas people? So frustrating

    xxxxx.

    Received this yesterday.

We got a case officer 24th sept 2013.

    Duke,

Did you get any update from CO?

  11. Postcodes 4180-4899 are the designated area postcodes. Brisbane metro postcodes are not in that range.

    I

NickyNook, could you please quote your source. If that is the case I would have thought they would have stated 'all post codes except Brisbane Metro area'. They have given many ranges, but only the last range they have included the except clause. From Google search some sites state Brisbane Metro codes as: 4000-4207, 4300-4305, 4500-4519. very confusing. Thanks.

  12. Hi,

I would like to get some advice on a couple of issues:

    1. As designated area post codes in QLD, DIAC states 4180-4899 (anywhere except Brisbane metropolitan area). Where can I find if a town is part of Brisbane Metropolitan area or not?

    2. Should the 887 condition, 2 year residence in a designated area, be satisfied by every applicant who is more than 18 years or only applicable to principal applicant. If my partner takes extended holidays (months) back home in the UK would she fail to qualify for 887 the same time that I do?

    Thanks

  13. Duke,

The response from the CO makes me nervous too as I am in the same boat. But CO does not actually say that the quota had been reached. He merely says that there are limited number of places. Am I trying to see the bright side of life?

  14. Are you family sponsored?? There is only 4200 places for this program year - not much you will be able to do but wait. Also I would wait for CO to request medicals and PC.

    Hi lebourvellec,

I have also applied for 489 family sponsored a month ago and obviously no case officer yet as it is too early. Normally they say it takes up to 8 weeks. I have now booked for the medicals. Does it mean that I should wait until CO requests me to do the medicals? I do not want to do unnecessary medicals if I am not sure of the visa. Is there a way of knowing how many visas have been issued out of 4200. Where did you see this information? I am also surprised that the limit has already been reached after all we are just 4 months into the program year.

  15. This might be posted in the wrong section! But for me it's certainly a migration issue!

having failed my ielts twice , both by 0.5 on writing(need 7's) can anyone give me a few quick pointers on writing a good essay. I've joined a daily ielts blog, and have researched and practised but if anyone has some tips that would be great.

Unsure if I definetly qualify for the 190 so wanting to complete this ielts incase I need to go for 189

    cheers

    Hi CowlingAFC,

As you have got above 7 on all other three and 6.5 on writing, your issue is not language. You may be failing on task achievement which can be very tricky. They use three types of task 2 essay questions and if you get "problem & solutions" or "advantages & disadvantages" it will your lucky day as the task is clearly defined. But if you get opinion question, identifying the task and the format to use would be difficult. My advice is that you read very carefully paying attention to each word. In exam conditions we normally tend to start writing without reading the question well. I got many times 9 on all other three but 7.5 on writing until I understood how to crack the opinion question. But again, I am only guessing as IELTS does not give feedback.

    Good luck

  16. After 6 months I hated it.. Nearly 2 years later it ain't changed, been lucky with work .. That's why I've stayed. If I didn't have my job I would of been on the first plane out of here. Hope your situation improves

    Hi Paul,

I am in the process of applying for a visa to immigrate to Perth, so I am nervous about the decision not knowing if I am doing the right thing. You got a job, ok. So it would be interesting to know the things you hate or not happy about.

  17. Hi,

I am new to this forum. I need some advice. I am applying for visa 489 family sponsored. On receiving the visa I am planning to move first to Australia and once I have got a job and arranged the accommodation, school, etc I would like to get my wife and child down under. My question is within what time frame my wife and child should enter into Australia from the time of receiving the visa.

I also understand that medicals have a period of validity. As such could I do medicals now and others to do before they leave for Australia? Would DIAC require that all medicals done at the same time before making a decision? Would they allow one to migrate first and others later?

Thanks for any help on this
