I think it is more terminology at work here.

    Barbie (AUS) Cooking outdoors.

BBQ (US) indirect heat usually from wood, low and slow.

BBQ (UK) Cooking over an open flame.

Grilling (US) Cooking over an open flame.

Grilling (UK) heat source above so you can make cheese on toast.

Broiler (US) heat source above so you can make cheese on toast.

From what I've seen from my Aus family, they have gas BBQs but only use the flat plate with oil to cook on - shallow frying in my opinion.

I have already started a program of re-education:wink:

The reason why many Aussies use gas plate barbecues is because of total fire bans. You can use gas bbqs on those days, but you can't use a Weber.

  2. Hiya, I applied to the London office (not on-line) for a Spouse visa and yes I got a 100 which is great! I've been married to an Aussie for 10 years and we have 2 children together so that may have swayed their decision...

We're off to Melbourne at the end of October - it's scary now that it's really happening!

Similar story here. Me and my partner have been together for 16 years - 15 of those in the UK. I think our delay was because our case officer was on leave for a few weeks and hadn't put our application in to action for a grant before they left. Doesn't matter though, at least we have it now!

I haven't posted before but have been reading this thread since I applied for my partner visa in January.

I received my visa on Tuesday so it took 8 months and 3 days! I e-mailed my case officer on Tuesday morning and received an out of office reply saying that he was on leave until the end of the month so I e-mailed the familymigration e-mail address and got my "grant" e-mail back within a couple of hours! I'm so glad I didn't wait until my case officer returned from leave.

Good luck to everyone who is waiting.

    Cheers, Helen

That's what we should have done!! Congratulations! :)

  4. Congratulations Wozziegirl and TheTipper! What a relief! Hope all goes well for the two of you.

just a quick question to those who have applied for subclass 300. When submitting your application you are required to prove that you have organised the wedding ceremony and provide proof.Which I've done, however the ceremony was supposed to happen on 23 of august. I naively thought we might get the grant, within the 6 months. Unfortunately, was not the case. So my question is should i call my CO and ask whether or not i need to book another date and provide proof. The wait is starting to have a negative effect on my mental state :(

You must have the same CO as me and my better half. The day our CO is back from leave is the 9 month mark for us!

  5. Hi guys,

I realise I have hardly been actively involved with this thread as of late but I just wanted to go on record as saying thank you to everyone who is involved with it because it has been a massive help and aid to me during my time waiting for the visa and imagining every case scenario under the sun where I don't get it - So it's been great to see the positivity that is often found here.

But as the gods would have it, it has finally been granted and I am on my way come the end of the month. My application was recevied 3rd December and was granted 11th August so around the 8 months and a bit mark.

Again thank you to everyone taking their time to answer questions and help where possible and the best of luck to everyone who is currently going through the process.

    Jason.

Fab news! Congrats. Ours was received 5 December so hopefully the grant will come through any day now! All the best for your new life down under.

  6. Nope no visa granted and I keep wondering the same thing as it appears to have gone quiet on here lately :( we are at 8 months 2 weeks and 5 days (not that we are counting or anything!) :( I am guessing the extension of time for processing new applications means they are quite busy so we dont expect the visa until 9 months (even though we would much prefer - and need - it now).

    I really hope it isn't 9 months!
