  1. Hi,

We have recently returned to the UK from Perth. We brought our two dogs with us. We have two airline approved travel crates for sale.

One  PP50 with absorbent fleece mat, water bowl and external water spout,( to be able to top up water bowls without opening the door), used for Maltese Shihtzu she weighs10 Kilos.        We got the extra size crate size up for more airflow.

One PP60 with extra bar that goes across the front ( used on larger crates) absorbent fleece mat,  we asked for 2 waterbowls to be attached and external water spout, used for a Cockerpoo/ Spoodle he weighs 14 Kilos. Again we went a size up so he had plenty of room.

Crates have only been used for the journey from Australia to the UK. They available from Backbarrow Cumbria at a cost of  £90 for the PP60 and £70 for the PP50.

Can send photos if anyone is interested.

Hi we are thinking of moving back to the Uk from Australia and would like to take our 2yo dog with us. We are in Sydney and want to go to Manchester or London.

our dog is very nervous of people he doesn’t know so please if anyone ha recommendations for companies who are good at dealing with this and do you think less stops would be better for him? Ie if we flew out of Perth?

    Hi,

I spoke with a lady from Dogtainers today regarding taking our 2 dogs back to the UK. The lady asked for photographs as one of the dogs may be classed a snub nosed breed as she is a Maltese X Shih-tzu. If she is classed a snub nosed she will not be able to fly with Emirates to Manchester and will have to fly with Qantas to Heathrow. She said they will need to assess with photographs. They will also need weight and size of the dogs. I was told they will assess the best route for the dogs which could mean a 5 day journey if travelling through Emirates with a 2 day stopover in Dubai which I didn't expect.

We have the same concerns as yourself our Spoodle is a nervous dog. We plan to size the dogs for crates through Dogtainers in advance to get them used to it and to use in the car to go for drives and then a nice walk, and to use to sleep in. We want to make sure they know how to have a drink also with the door closed.

A friend of our recently used Dogtainers to take her Golden Retriever back to the UK. His trip took around 7 days in total with comfort stops. He was fine when he arrived and was ready for a long woodland walk, she was amazed!

    It's quite common.

Lets assume you had your first grant and you did the whole of the last two years in Australia.

This qualifies you for a computer approved 5 year RRV because you've spent 2 of the the last 5 years in Aus.

You leave Australia on the day your first RRV expires.

Technically you could go 4 years and 364 days before returning and still be ok.

However if you apply just before 3 years after leaving you have still done 2 years in 5 (as the two years you were there are the first 2 years of this 5 year period)

So you get a new computer approved 5 year RRV (which overwrites the current one)

So this way you end up being able to be away for 8 years rather than 5 years

That is really useful information. Thank you so much for taking the time to reply, much appreciated.

  4. Hi Skani,

I guess I will know more when I get there, I don't eat out often myself it's too hard.

I just wondered if there was somewhere but they didn't have a website.

    Thanks for the reply.

  5. Hi can any of you lovely Tasmanian people help?

My family and I are coming to Tasmania at the end of the month to have a look around with a view to moving there. We are staying in The Huon Valley.

My concern is I have food allergies. I have been having a google at where I can eat but don't seem to be getting very far with my search.

I follow the Paleo diet as I can't eat gluten, dairy, corn or soy this makes it easy for me. I can only find Paleo meals to order.

I have found a few gluten free places but if I eat Paleo I know I won't be sick whilst we are away.

Just wondered if anybody knew of any places that cater for food allergies.

    Thanks.
