  1. It's quite staggering how long this thread has gone on for, you'd have thought it a relatively straightforward problem to resolve.

    UK diploma = ??

Feeling very lucky we slipped through just as all this took off. That said, my wife has since renewed her registration with no trouble at all.

Not sure if it's relevant to the thread, but for those wondering, once my wife got her registration she started working for WANA, based in Perth. We live in Mandurah/Dawesville so often a good hours drive. As we came over in Jan this year we timed it just right to hit the summer "lull" in terms of available agency shifts. One a week low. Also, the number of times she'd prepare for a night shift, only for it to be cancelled. Once after she drove the 90km to the hospital.

Things worked out out for us though, after I convinced her to register with a local agency down here and the lull passed, shifts were flying in. In the end, it she was offered a contract for the hours and shifts we needed through word of mouth and goodwill from other staff at the hospital.

Now it's "winter" out here admissions etc are peaking meaning more agency shifts are out there, but it's worth keeping in mind that employment agencies are the same the world over, get numbers on the books.

It was a horrible experience waiting for aphra, then the uncertainty of employment even once she had aphra. We are now able to look back and laugh, or I am at least.

  2. Really sounds like a bit of a shocker that!

Our journey has come to an end, my wife is now a fully registered nurse out here set to start shifts once the obligatory manual handling etc courses are done. All in all, the lack of actual information provided by their communications is massively frustrating. Turns out it appeared on the website before she was notified by APHRA...

  3. Quick question, to register at the AHPRA office it states:

If arrived in Australia within the previous 6 weeks:

Original foreign passport or travel document with current Australia visa and proof of date of arrival

Evidence of their current residential address, an original signed statement from a prospective employer/sponsor verifying the identity of the applicant OR an original offer of employment.

So to complete the registration process my wife would be required to show, Passport + Offer of employment? Or does it have to be proof of current residential address + Passport + Offer of employment?

  4. Hi Nomicon would that be Keighley, West Yorkshire you live in? If so, I live not far at Cowling. I am a nurse and have had my skills assessed and visa 189 granted and just waiting on my ahpra letter. Perth office just emailed me today saying they are just waiting for my certificate of goodstanding and if they do not receive it by 6/12/13 they will withdraw my application. This is quite stressful, it was only sent a week ago so I know it will have not got there yet and I need to be patient. What nursing does your wife do? I worked at the hospital doing surgery and now do community nursing. Whereabouts in Perth are you going? Me, my husband and my three children are going to North Perth. Keep in touch. I cant believe it if you are near me.

hi there, yup Keighley or just on the outskirts.

The "will withdraw application" letter is a standard one.

We are aiming for Dawesville or Dalyellup. My wife works at Airedale in the ambulatory care unit. Small worlds indeed!

Based on others timelines and responses I am now expecting a decision one way or another by Mid December. We will still be moving out, just requires an adjustment to plans.

  5. Hi All I'm confused...please read below, I received this email following my inquiry into proof of identity docs needed...how can I provide prospective employer/original offer of employment if I havent got a job, often employers have asked for my AHPRA number at application...which I dont have unti Feb when I'm going to complete the process face to face....Help????

I refer to your correspondence to Alison in the Victorian Office of AHPRA regarding my email notifying you of your in-principle registration on 14 November 2013.

To respond to your enquiry, you will need to provide your British passport, Australian Visa and proof of your Australian address in addition to either an original signed statement from a prospective employer verifying your identity or an original offer of employment letter. This means you cannot obtain registration in Australia until you have met the visa, residential and employment requirements. This applies to all applicants who have been deemed eligible for in-principle registration

From what my wife has been reading/hearing after talking with a few nursing employment agencies, you need a job offer or letter stating you are employed to "fully complete" AHPRA's process..

She is in the process of registering with one of the agencies now as they will send out a pre-employment confirmation letter, which will allow us to have a bit more clout with letting agents as well as complete the registration process once we arrive in Jan.

Hope that helps, and is somewhat accurate, me being a third wheel in the passage of information...

  6. Hi Nomicon, i dont mind answering any q' s at all...all here to help each other :)

The complete application was recieved on 5th September, so all in all took about 9 weeks from then....how long have you been waiting?

Well we submitted the final "correctly notarized" documents on the 4th October, as in they confirmed receipt via email. My wife sent a chaser email on Friday and we received a "it's being worked on, you will be contacted in due course" reply, ala generic "stop bothering us it's only been 6 weeks.

Shall just bide my time a bit more :)

Our flights are booked for the 16th Jan, so this will be the last piece of the puzzle. Well, that and securing a rental!

  7. Hi All, I got my in principle letter of registration through this morning via Email!! Yippeee!!

It has advised that I have a year to take/send proof of ID docs to the Brisbane office, to complete the registration. Which I'll do in Feb when I pop over.

The ID docs I need to send include; Passport, Visa Evidence, Proof of Address...it also mentions sponsorship or proof of employment letter...well as I have'nt got a job yet and I dont need a sponsor i'm assuming that passport, visa and address proof will all suffice?

Sorry I'm being a tiny bit thick!

Also just FYI my letter states "Following your application of July 23rd 2013....so thats taken three and a half months, as I was originally advised between 8 - 12 weeks that was pretty spot on, considering I had to resend my docs with magistrates signature on due to my own mistakes...:embarrassed:

    Great news!

I realise 20 questions are being fired at you, so I apologise for the 21st!, however you said they requested further documents and these were submitted accordingly. When did they receive the "complete" application if you see where I am going with this?

    Cheers.

  8. Hi, as I have been in the aphra system since mid august, 4 months since acknowledgement email, is there anyone currently receiving registration confirmation. Is there anyone else who has been waiting this long? Paul

That's what I was trying to find out today, however the contact number given for Out of Australia callers was shut, and I have been unable to find a Perth based phone number.

I am tempted to reply stating this, as they are so keen to spout legislation when we ask about applications:

[h=2]How long will my application take to process?[/h][h=3]If your application is considered complete[/h]This means AHPRA has received all the information to complete an assessment. Refer to the relevant section of The Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Act 2009 ('the National Law'). The standard timeframe for the assessment of a complete application is:

    • Up to 10 days for graduate applications

    • Up to 10 days for provisional to general applications

    • Up to 10 days for specialist applications (where general is already held)

    • Up to 4-6 weeks for all other application types.

  9. Hi all, I had my documents acknowledged with the Victoria office back in mid August, have had various emails from you will here in the next 2 weeks to you will here in the next 2 days. My latest response to my email asking for a timescale is below. It is not very encouraging!! Paul

    Dear Mr Andre

    Thank you for your enquiry.

As you are aware the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) and AHPRA are currently reviewing and strengthening the process in place to support the nationally consistent assessment of applications for registration from internationally qualified nurses and midwives (IQNM).

Due to the high volume of overseas applications, there is currently no time frame available at this stage for outcomes of internationally qualified Nursing and Midwifery applications.

If there is any further information that the Registrations Team requires from you, we will contact you directly as soon as possible.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to send an email directly to Alison.Pilcher@ahpra.gov.au or call 03 8708 9289. Alternatively, please call AHPRA on 1300 419 495 or follow the web enquiry link below.

    Kind Regards

That is somewhat alarming and frustrating.

    When did the "Strengthening" start?

Not exactly true. If all your documents are in order, they grant you registration there and then if you present yourself in person at the office saying that you need to work..............I know of several who have done this in the Brisbane office. Don't know though if that will be the case at the current time if they are going through changes.

When did they do this? This year or a year or so ago?

I feel a phone call tonight is in order, I'll try and extract some shred of hope or timeframe from them.

  10. Hi nomicon which AHPRA office are you waiting on?

From what I can tell it's the Perth Office.

We were given a deadline to submit further documents:

If you do not provide the information necessary to complete your application, AHPRA will be unable to progress your application for registration. This information is required by close of business 6 November 2013. If you do not provide the information by that time AHPRA will consider that you do not wish to pursue your application for registration and this will be discontinued in accordance with section 80(5) of the National Law. Therefore, if you wish to proceed with your application, you must submit the above documentation by close of business 6 November 2013.

Which we paid through the nose to ensure they arrived well before, the Officer our application was assigned to had been on annual leave till the 5th November however they confirmed receipt of the documents with the following:

Thank you for your email. I would advise that your application is currently receiving attention and we will be in touch in due course. Your patience is highly appreciated.

If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to reply my email or call AHPRA Customer Service on 1300 419 495.

It has only been a week since the last email from them so we are not quite into the panic phase yet, although it was originally submitted on the 2nd October.

However my wife has been looking into job applications wanting to line things up ASAP and is hesitant due to not actually knowing if everything is going through smoothly with AHPRA...

  11. And we are also still waiting on a reply, documents were requested to be certified by a recognised person, which we promptly did and sent them off again. Email to confirm they received them, another email to say that they are under consideration, "we appreciate your patience at this time.. etc etc"
