This statement is not just stupid and an insult to all tax paying and contributing PR's. The point is: it's completely wrong and PR bashing of an obviously envious person who is unable to apply for PR in the first instance.  Ozpursuit doesn't obviously know that students are only allowed to work 20 hours per week. Well, if the student he knows contributed more tax in 1 year as a PR I request proof how that works out! Many international students and domestic students pay a heck of student fees etc and the aim is to gain a reputable Australian University Degree therefore student visas are for students only not for migrants. Well, if somebody uses it as a back door for migration that's another story. I know many students abroad including myself who never had the intention to settle there. The purpose was simply to obtain an International recognised degree to enhance professional reputation.

Well,  temporary residents on 457 can apply anytime for PR if they qualify. Yes, I know that's the point and this forum is full of warnings and sad stories in regards to this visa and its associated pitfalls! Again, no proof how they pay more tax then PR's. How about evidence anyway? All stupid, unsustainable claims, actually not worth to discuss.

I forgive the myopic view of this person (and the other person who came before, and those who will come after) and I rise above those who use deprecating words. They are uncalled for, non-constructive, does not invite nor contribute to a meaningful discussion.

Supposed the bill was founded on greater integration and contribution, 4 years on PR is harsh to those who were on temporary visa and has become PR for a year and qualified for citizenship. Their contribution will not compare to the contribution and degree of integration just because as much as there may be minute similarities, they are different. They do not compare does not mean the other has greater or lesser contribution or degree of integration. Although tax paid is quantifiable, it's hard to quantify integration. Hence the conundrum in some provisions of the bill. I concede that the post could have been clearer to include other aspects of contribution such as contribution to innovative research (for PhD students), community volunteer work, cultural exchange and a whole lot more. The point you raise is so true ian360 (The thing I don't understand is the argument I am seeing on here about who pays the most tax). Those advertising the obscene amount of tax money they pay to the government seem to want to justify that they are worthy of citizenship when what I was hoping was the discussion of the issues of A and B or those who have been on provisional visa before PR, or those who have been partners, or those who were in special circumstances.

    Fact check:

students are only allowed to work 20 hours per week - depends if you're undergraduate or graduate student, could be full time hours on term breaks

But then again, given the misgivings of my post, I think just because tax money is very quantifiable some people are fixated to zoom in on that.

  2. If this bill is about greater integration and contribution to the society, the 4 year wait is harsh. Someone said there is no difference between people who came here on direct PR visa vs the temporary visa. But there is.

    • 5 years on 457 and one year PR. This person has contributed taxes for 5 years and had spent his hard earned money in the Australian economy. He has likely made his life here, enjoyed the company of his colleagues and friends.
    • 10 years on student visa and one year PR. This person, just the same, spent and invested her money to gain an Australian qualification which must have been very expensive for an international student. She's likely working on the side and would've paid taxes. As with person one, she's made a life here, enjoyed the company of her Australian and international friends and had celebrated every occasion that is Australian.

If the bases of the bill are greater social integration and proven contribution to the society, why do those years that person A and B spent on temporary visa are overlooked by the citizenship changes?

I would even argue that those who came in as a direct RP would NOT compare to the contribution and degree of integration that person A and B would've demonstrated.

It is not the citizenship that must be changed, it is the permanent residency program that should be reviewed.

  3. Hi,

I intend to submit an 887 application by the end of June. By that time, my passport validity date will be less than 6 months (my passport expires 19 January 2017). Will the system (immi account) allow me to lodge a valid application despite my passport validity being less than 6 months?

My plan is to renew my passport after lodging a valid application. I understand that I can renew my passport first before lodging an 887 application but processing for a new passport takes 1 to 2 months. I want to save myself that waiting time.

    Thanks for the help, anyone.

    Regards

  4. Hi @Aussie81 The condition of the state is the condition of the state. DIBP only asks that you live in a regional/designated area as specified in the migration instrument and work full time for a year. Unless you have any other condition imposed by the DIBP, then you should be alright.

I am in the same situation, on 489 but moved interstate. I got a letter from my sponsoring state wishing me luck on my new life in a different state.

    Thanks@ Labourvellec.

My sponsoring state made me sign an agreement committing to living in the territory for a minimum of 2 years.

Have I not committed a breach already?

I know they have given me verbal permission to leave but without a letter, this is hard to prove if push comes

    to shove.

If my wife is to apply as primary applicant, how do we at up an Immi Account for her?

  5. hi @jimbo889

i came here with my partner as my secondary applicant on a skilled migrant visa. it's crucial that you've lived together for a minimum of 12 months. otherwise, as what i've researched, it most likely will not be approved.

    good luck!

    Hi Folks,

Has anyone had any experience with a Same-Sex 457 defacto visa?

    here's the facts;

    - We've been in long distance for 9 months and I've visited my partner in Taiwan.

    - I have passport stamps to prove this including hotel stays, visits and all social media communication.

    - My partner will come to Australia on a holiday/visit me for an initial 3 months and may plan another 3 months. My partner has a 12 month ETA but has to leave every 3 months.

My partner will be coming across on a holiday visa initially.

Any help on collating the correct evidence, what we need etc, bank accounts/social media.

On a defacto 457, we need to live together for 6 months, can you see there being any issues?

As much help/advice as possible would be great.

    Thanks.

    J

  6. Hi Lily24,

Basically, you have to do assessment with APS. Depending on your result, you can apply for provisional registration (equivalent 4-year sequence) or provisional/transitional registration (equivalent 5- or 6-year sequence).

    All the best!

  7. hi remi, i think the best way to start is to find out how your 'qualification' or 'skill' will be assessed for migration. you seem to be going through your long experience as a plasterer. there are 2 in the skilled occupation list (Fibrous Plasterer and Solid Plasterer). The assessing authority is TRA. So start there and have your skill assessed.

if that's done and you have a positive assessment, that's the golden ticket. you can go via visa 189.

if you want to go via state sponsorship, you can apply for sponsorship in the following states and go via visa 190 or 489.

    ACT (closed)

    SA (not sponsoring plasterers)

NSW (sponsoring, currently closed and will reopen Feb 2015)

    VIC (not sponsoring plasterers)

    WA (not sponsoring plasterers)

TAS (sponsoring but must have job offer, strong interest, or ties)

    NT (sponsoring solid plasterer)

i hope this helps. but first thing that you really need to do is to have your skill assessed. all the best!

  8. twas really scary. i guess you can only prepare that much. time and again, i still look back. having nightmares at times. that is-it-all-worth-it question always follows me. it's tough to venture into the unknown.

  9. hi Ollie. just a quick reply. i think the only visa that allows for a first cousins to sponsor is 489, which is point-tested. that means your occupation has to be at least in CSOL. good luck Ollie.

Hey everyone :D heres the situation..

I am currently here in Australia on my 2nd year working holiday visa with 9 month remaining. My dads cousin lives here (my second cousin i believe) and I'm currently working for there own business, driving trucks. I need to no what is the best visa to go on and how to go about sorting it out, as truck driving isn't on the occupation list. i am very desperate and determined to stay here as I've fallen in love with the place!!

I haven't really got the money to go and see an migration agent as they are very expensive.

My mum and dad are desperate to come out to so can his cousin sponsor them to come here? does that mean i can stay here to if they can sponsor them?

Any help would be an advantage as I'm at a dead end and not sure what to do next.

    Much appreciated.

    Ollie

  10. hi guys....please advise..i applied for SS 190 today..but i dont hv offer letter and links in tasmania... do i have any chance to get SS??

hi gurnaaz. the condition for you to be invited is a job offer or strong links to tasmania via years spent studying here in the state or family ties. all the best.

  11. hi abdulkalam1976 sorry for the late reply. had been very busy recci-ing tassie and oz in general for the last few weeks. i hope by this time you've already received a response or have you not? usually they'd reply quite quick. it only took a total of 3 days for me, working days that is:)

    Hello dear,

I have applied last week (Around 7 working days as of today) for TAS state sponsorship under 190 (ANZSCO code;261312) without having Job offer. I did not get any response from them yet. So do you think they did not consider me or still early to predict.

Happy to hear from your experience.

    Regards

  12. I'm from Singapore. I do not know whether Singapore is consider a welfare state?

my mother do have her own flat but she is moving to my place in order to help me to take care of my kids.

    hi cheryh79,

i think you should add your mother in your application. although there's CPF and revised CHAS that the gahmen is offering, i do believe that there's a high chance that she'll be approved. my friend got her mother approved with her 190 application fairly easily.

    all the best!

  13. Hi, did you receive Taz Sponsorship? If so I would be interested in your experience. Did you have to receive an offer of employment first or were you granted State Sponsorship due to family ties? Thanks in advance

    hi brumby!

yup i did receive sponsorship from taz and it was really a breeze. as soon as i sent the application, they replied a day after. they could've considered me for 190 but i didn't have an offer of employment so they offered me 489 due to significant family ties. they're really very prompt as well. as soon as i informed them that i lodged my EOI, they immediately invited me to lodge. took just over a month for our visa to be granted. you planning to apply for taz sponsorship?

  14. Yup @Picia211, patience indeed will help you get through this very confronting process.

got allocated 29 oct, gsm team 6 adelaide. finalised all the requested additional requirements

8 nov. now just waiting for a decision (in which, i have to say, a humungous amount of

patience is needed). this part is the killer i tell you. it's like you're in limbo waiting whether

you'll be thrown to hell or be welcomed in heaven.

    keeping fingers crossed for everyone.

    Hey chaps!

I am still waiting for my CO...

Visa Lodged: 25 Sept 2013 so day before you ozpursit!

Now I really understand what does patience mean!

  15. thanks geokarag23. me & my partner's CO (de facto) is from team 6, adeliade. her name starts with C (i don't have the last name yet).

hoping to get a grant this week. lol. keeping fingers crossed:)

    Hi mate!

My CO is from GSM Team 23 and her initials are CJ.

Although it wasn't mentioned in her letter, I think it's a Brisbane Team.

Good luck to all 489 applicants
