  1. I imagine that if a quarantine inspector finds rusty stuff then they are more inclined to look for other "dirty" stuff in your shipping that my contain soil residue. If they first things that they inspect are pristine (and smelling of disinfectant!) they would probably assume that everything else is similarly clean. I don't have any evidence to back this up, but that is how I would think if I was in their position!

  2. Join the Queue!

How we Brits love a queue!! Thought I'd pass a bit of time whilst I'm waiting and make a list of applicants from when the application was submitted.

Please add yourself if I've missed you off, or have had your visa granted. Turns out there's a fair few of us and I'm sure a few silent members/guests out there.

    LJD90 ???

Nice one Pookie, I did the same for the applications submitted the same month as me. Be warned though, it will -

    a) take over your life and

    b) cause huge feelings of injustice when you see people who submitted their applications weeks after you get their grants before you get yours

  3. Hi,

I have just had my pearsons test results and I am a bit confused?

Is it just the main 4 scores I need to be over 79 for my 20 visa points or all the enabling skills too (grammer, spelling ect)

    Jon

You have to love the irony :biglaugh:

  4. Anyone please?

    Hi Dave,

The migration booklet isn't very clear is it? It says -

"In some cases, you will be able to undertake health examinations before you lodge your visa application. This will enable you to lodge a complete application, which may help to speed up processing of your application. This service is not available in all countries so you should check with the office outside Australia at which you will be lodging your application. Contact details are on page 11."

I think that this was written on the good old days when processing times were significantly less than a year and there was little chance of the medical expiring before the visa was granted/activated.

Rest assured that you don't need to have the medical done in advance and your understanding about the authorities advising when to get the police check and medical done is correct. In my case, the window during which I should have these done was clearly stated in the first mail from my CO acknowledging the receipt of my application.

Hopefully this puts your mind at rest?

    Good luck with your application.

  5. My husband is thinking that moving into IT contracting maybe a better option for employment when we go back to the UK.

However he has only ever had permanent type positions and has very little experience of the process for gaining IT contract work.

He is currently in IT Security and Risk.

Does anyone have any experience on the IT contract market (moving from a permanent role to becoming a contractor).

Is the current UK market for this line of work reasonably buoyant ?

    Thanks.

    CG

I have been contracting for 5 years and would never go back to a permanent job. IT security and risk is definitely one of the most sought after IT roles at present.

The best route to getting contracts is through personal contacts and networking but, having obviously been out of the country for a while, this may not be an option for your husband to get his first contract.

http://www.jobserve.com is one of the best websites job search websites and many new jobs reported every day. He should definitely make sure that his LinkedIN profile is up to date, clearly states that he is currently looking for a role and has a current CV attached.

Getting the first contract was key for me, the rest came fairly easily after that.

I will PM you a couple useful documents from the accountancy firm that does my company books.

Good luck with your move back to the UK.

  6. I didn't come on here to be ridiculed thankyou very much....

Hi Lorna, I don't think that anyone is intending to ridicule you here. Many people on this forum have extensive experience of the immigration system and how difficult it is to get anything other than a holiday visa for Australia nowadays; they are just pointing this out to you so that you don't have unrealistic expectations.

The suggestion that you go out on a Working Holiday Visa is a good one. You can gain feel for the country and maybe get an idea as to whether you may be able to to gain the necessary skills required to get some other kind of longer-term visa at a later date.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do. At the age of 22 without massive student debt, the world is your oyster

  7. Hi, I have Australian PR and at the moment I am working in EU . I have validated my visa but my wife and kids have not done validation trip. They have only one month left to do it. For some reasons its very difficult for us to go for my family's validation trip.

I have a plan to move permanently next year. But my family will join my in 2017 .

If we do not validate my wife's and kid's visas , then what are the consequences ?

Validate the visas and eliminate the future expense, stress and uncertainty.....it's a "no-brainer"

  8. The current quoted waiting times for London at 10-14 months

Some very recent applicants such as CameronsDad were quoted 9-12 months but, to avoid disappointment, it's probably wise to assume worst case 14 months and anything better than that is a bonus.

The PMV visa application process is relatively straightforward as basically all you have to do is prove that you

    1. have a bona fide relationship and plan to get married within a certain timeframe

    2. don't have a criminal record

    3. are in reasonable health

You just have to have to be willing to wait in a long queue, but us British are supposedly good at queuing aren't we?

  9. Granted today, 9 months and 14 days. Is this the longest of recent applications?

I have been watching very closely over the past few weeks (for obvious reasons!) and this is the longest wait that I have seen. A full month longer than some at the beginning of the month!

Anyway all's well that ends well. Many congratulations; the rest of your life starts today :smile:

  10. If anybody knows of a Voluntary work please let me know [emoji4]... Looking near to perth.

This site has lots of volunteering oportunities http://volunteeringwa.org.au

This is something close to my heart http://www.duyfken.com/index with a variety of different volunteer jobs if you are interested? I have worked as volunteer sailing crew and done regular maintenance work on the James Craig tall ship in Sydney. The volunteers who do work for the Sydney Heritage Fleet are an amazing group of people and I am sure that the Duyfken guys in Freemantle are cut from the same cloth.

  11. Hi Sandd,

This is my experience. I got my med check done in March 2014 and Police check in April 2014 so was expecting to have to be in Oz before they ran out. I was all set to have to make a trip to activate the visa and then sort out the final move for later this year. My visa was approved 10 Dec 14 and I have to make first entry into Oz by 22 June. Hope that helps.

Wow, you are cutting it a bit fine on the arrival date! I would be too worried that there would be a strike or something that caused an unforeseen couple of days delay

  12. Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has been granted their visa this month, earlier than the expected time frame, on time or late?

The not knowing is difficult. Glad I'm definately not on my own with that!

    Thanks :)

    Hi August,

Look back to page 1083 on this thread where I summarised the status of June 2014 applicants. You will see that some people got their visas granted this month after 8 months and 15 days, whereas mine was at 9 months and 6 days. It is luck of the draw with your CO and their work-load at the time I think.......

  13. I got a phone call from my CO asking me to confirm our planned wedding date (14-Nov-2015), followed by the grant email about 5 minutes later.

It has been a long wait (9 months and 6 days) but at long last, I can make definite plans for flights, shipping of possessions, farewell visits, closing down my UK life etc

    Australia here I come

  14. More grants ahead of the 9 month schedule this week, including a couple on unlucky Friday 13th. I am obviously very disappointed that mine didn't come through but I am genuinely thrilled for everyone who has been lucky enough to receive an early grant this month. Surely next week for me and Jkcotton?
