  1. From the VETASSESS website:

[h=3]Drug and Alcohol Counsellor (ANZSCO Code 272112)[/h]This occupation requires a qualification which is assessed as comparable to the educational level of an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Bachelor degree or higher degree, in a field highly relevant to the nominated occupation.

In addition to this, applicants must have at least one year of post-qualification employment at an appropriate skill level completed in the last five years which is highly relevant to the nominated occupation. If the qualification(s) are not at the required educational level, or if the employment has been completed prior to the qualification, then the employment will be assessed below the required skill level.

  2. We have already explained it was out of our hands, no one even told us it was being moved over. Don't you think we feel bad enough about it. Rob has spent all last night and all this morning trying to get back the missing posts. It isn't a case of simply hitting a delete button. The server company took a back up and then deleted the old forum and updated the copy it to the new server yesterday. On a small forum it wouldn't usually matter but because if the number of posts and threads it had this devastating affect. So no it's not tasteless, tragic yes and I know Mhags would completely understand it wasn't intentional and Scott would probably be laughing about it all.

And yet the post is back now... Thank you both for restoring it.

  3. UPDATE:

it may be more problematic if I try to restore the missing 2 or 3 days data, so a big apology to anyone who has lost posts from the last couple of days.

You might want to make the effort in the case of the thread started by Suzuki Scottie's widow, and all her messages of condolence. It's a bit tasteless to just leave that deleted that like it never happened...

  4. Although it's not an exact science you can have a look here www.seek.com.au. Click on 'more options' and filters appear. Even if a job is not advertised with the salary if you use the filter for the salary ranges ie: 'paying 60' to 'paying 100' it does filter down the jobs

I do wish they hadn't got rid of the 'like' button - that is one of the most useful things I have read on here. Thank you, Ozzie!

  5. Thanks Grecia! That's what we thought - it should be where you lodge the application. I'm pretty sure she put her residential address as her parents address for ease - although looking back it hasn't made it easy at all. Do you know if it's possible to get DIBP to allow an edit to adjust this?

    Thanks

    Ben

You can change your address for correspondence with a Form 929 (or do it online). Not sure if that would help - maybe that and an explanatory letter...? I'm sure the idea of the biometrics is not for people to have to fly halfway around the world to get them done.

  6. Hi all, I haven't posted here for a while but find myself in a complicated situation!!

My friend is coming to Sydney - she is South African but has applied for and lodged her visa application from Indonesia where she is currently working as a Dive Instructor. She has received a letter on her Immi account asking her to have her biometrics collected. The letter states that individuals applying from certain countries will need their biometrics collected - however Indonesia isn't on the list but South Africa is. The nearest Visa centres that do Biometrics are Malaysia or Singapore.

We're assuming that she has been asked to get her biometrics because she is South African - can she attend any Australian Biometrics Centre or does she have to attend one in South Africa? We'll be ringing DIBP tomorrow but would appreciate any input if anyone knows anything about this.

    Thanks in advance,

    TeacherBen

I thought (and the DIBP website seems to confirm this) that it was where you lived, rather than your nationality. So, my British father living in France had to do the biometric checks for his partner visa; my British partner living in the UK didn't. Unless she put a South African address on the application, the DIBP may have made a mistake: my OH was asked by his case officer to do a police check for Australia when he had only been on holiday there for 3 months. The CO was quite nice about it when he pointed out the error. Good luck!

  7. Hello to all,

My wife and daughter fulfilled a request of personal identifiers (Biometrics) for a 309 partner application couple of months ago.

Since my wife applied for a visit visa, a request for personal identifiers (Biometrics) was sent to her email address.

The question is if the proof of previously performed personal identifiers (Biometrics) can be uploaded in the online account to fulfil the request?

    OR

A new personal identifiers (Biometrics) is essential for each/separate visa application/category ?

    Regards,

    Henry

For this type of yes/no question I've found it easier to just call the visa helpline at Australia House. Although it's not unheard of (lol) for DIBP staff to give out wrong advice, for simple questions like this I've always found them really helpful.

  8. I can't help with things like water charges or electricity because we are in a different situation to what you may be (family of four, outer southern suburbs, solar panels, solar hot water, large house, no gas etc) but others may be able to give you an idea of costs if you can narrow the area and your lifestyle down.

You can put your (proposed) details into Compare the Market's Aussie website and they will give you the electricity and gas costs from various providers, like they do with insurance.

  9. They have rentals available in snake infested spider forests? Seriously, your post worries me because we intend to rent for the first year in NSW when we move over ... Any tips? Thanks in advance.

My OH had awful trouble getting somewhere in Sydney on a limited budget. In the end, the same estate agent kept seeing him week after week at viewings and felt sorry for him. She put in a good word with the landlord, and advised him what to do to beat the other potential tenant that the landlord favoured. If it wasn't for her he'd probably still be living in dodgy houseshares.

So befriending an estate agent can't hurt - it works for Phil and Kirsty after all.

  10. Hi there,

I am posting this on behalf of my friend who has recently been widowed and is only 47 years old. She moved out here four years ago and her husband became ill with cancer and subsequently died.

She owns a property in Italy (which is in her name) and is keen to sell it to release some capital but is trying to do it from a distance.

I know in England that you can sell your own property privately through a number of companies who charge a minimal amount but will advertise the property on RightMove etc. I think the one I remember from Britain is Houseladder and Thelittlehousecompany

Does anyone know if this sort of thing exists in Italy? Her brother in law lives local to the property and could show people around.

Any advice appreciated - or if you know of Italian organisations which may help please let me know?

    Thank you,

    Sulac

Not Italy, but I and my immediate family have bought and sold several properties in France - plus three "near misses" where the properties had hidden defects and we had to extricate ourselves from the purchase. Looking at this article, the Italian system seems to be a mixture of the French and UK ones: http://www.detulliolawfirm.com/property-selling-guide/

I've found the most important thing is to get a good bilingual property lawyer (although my French is pretty good). The one I use currently charges EUR 300 an hour and is worth every penny. He has saved me many times over what I've paid him in fees. Even if her Italian is perfect, it would probably be helpful to your friend to use someone who is used to dealing with non-residents. It is no problem being out of the country when the sale goes through, either - you simply give power of attorney to your lawyer to sign the contract for you.

There aren't any 'budget' estate agents in France that I know of (the sector is heavily regulated), so I'd be surprised if these exist in Italy. If her BIL can show people around, why can't he let the local estate agents in to give a valuation?

  11. Hi All

I'm looking to see if anyone can advise what recruitment agencies are best to deal with in Australia.

My my husband and I got our temporary visa last year and we visited the Sunshine Coast and Adelaide. However Adelaide wasn't for us and are now returning to the Sunshine Coast, Darwin as well as Perth. I have contacted Hays in each area of these places as it's the financial area we both work in. I was looking to see if there was other recruitment agencies out there??? I'm keen to try and get appointments to see about job prospects before we decide which area to move too??? We are also getting job alerts from seek.

    Thanks in advance.

    Shona x

I got a banking job through Robert Walters while I was still in the UK, so I can recommend them. In my experience the international agencies are best, because they often employ people who have worked in recruitment in London and understand the difference between the UK and Aus markets.

  12.

Sydney Heat: "I took these photographs of a dog sitting in a crate on the tarmac at Sydney Airport. The dog has been there for over half an hour in this heat. I'm taking photos from my plane. This needs explaining it's so hot out there. It's a German shepherd inside the crate" - 7 News viewer Carissa Lindfield.

  13. I have submitted my 100 visa application, but whenever I now try to upload a document it says 'field filename must have a value'. it does have a value! I have tried in Chrome and IE, deleted cookies etc but still no joy.

How long do I have before someone looks at it? I did the application 2.5 weeks ago and still not attached anything bar 3 things.

Any one else had this problem?

OH had endless problems with the website too. All you can do is raise a ticket with the IT helpdesk, and they will either sort it out for you or suggest a compromise solution.

  14. So we're hopefully heading back to UK in about 6months. Hubbie is transferring so we won't be going back to where were from. Heading to Oxford way & having only visited once I'm trying to get a feel for cost of living. I've looked at right move for houses but utilities? Food prices? No idea where to look. A few people have mentioned Oxford is very expensive (comparable to inner London) especially with the 90 min commute to London now making houses etc increase. So any ideas on utilities for a family of 4? I'm so out of touch now!

Compare the Market now gives quotes for utilities and phone/internet providers as well as insurance.

  15. Bit of a random one but I was wondering if anyone knows what websites the Aussie backpacker generation would use to look for UK work these days? (eg Aussies or Kiwis on working holiday in the UK) I'm wanting to advertise for jobs we have going over in Scotland and I'm a bit out of touch. I would just use gumtree but not sure if Aussies/Kiwis still use it to find UK work or if there is a more well know site now?

    Any ideas?

It always used to be the TNT Magazine (and its website) but not sure if that's as popular nowadays.

  16. Hi members,

I have received my positive assessment for Australia. I understand that initially I need to do odd / blue collar jobs until I find my field related work (I am a skilled medical administrator). I need to know what are highest paying odd jobs available in Melbourne?

Wouldn't you be better off doing something relevant - like care assistant in a home for the elderly - rather than just going for what pays the most? I can't see that having 'taxi driver' on your CV will help you much in finding work as a doctor...

  17. Hi all,

can anyone recommend a company to send photo calendars to people in the uk? I've used PhotoBox before and had a few problems with them, and trying again the bloody thing isn't getting past 'waiting to upload'.

Any recommendations would be great. :-)

I always use Snappy Snaps or Vistaprint for that kind of thing. I see Vistaprint have a 50% off offer on calendars atm...

  18. Not related, but I was given false information over the phone from the Australian passport office. When I turned up with documentation, they said sorry but no. I had to make a second trip up. Unless you have an opinion in writing, it's not worth the paper...

Yup, my mother was lied to over the phone too. It was particularly bad because she was very vulnerable and distressed at the time, and it was very probably deliberate - the guy on the other end of the phone was in his last week in the job, and he wasn't leaving voluntarily...

  19. As far as I am aware children born to temp visa holders are not automatically Australian citizens. I stand to be corrected but this is as I believe it.

OP says her partner is "from Australia" and his parents live there. What makes you think he isn't an Australian citizen or at least PR? If he is then his child will certainly acquire automatic citizenship.
