  1. We are currently getting ready to apply for PR (currently on a 457), just wondering what the time scales are for the visa's being granted. I would prefer a 190 but if the 189 comes through quicker we shall go for that as am not planning on leaving WA for at least 2 years.

After 2 years are you free to go anywhere? (I know its just a moral obligation)

  2. Cheers for the advise so far, looks like it a straight forward process if we can get the recent medicals and police checks transferred over. Next IELTS test that has availability looks to be on the 14th Dec, time to get booked in.

  3. Hi From the Rail,

It's not possible to be definitive without knowing all the details, but I would personally look to go through the Independent 189 Visa route with your wife as the main applicant. She's nominating an occupation that will always be in high demand, you wouldn't be reliant on any employer and it's comparable with other PR options in terms of timeframe and costs. I would offer a word of caution that 90 points is very high so there must be a miscalculation somewhere, but she'd only need 60 points to be eligible for an invite anyway.

Current DIBP 189 application fees are $3,520 for the main applicant, $1,760 for the secondary applicant. Also factor in the costs for any required skill assessments, English language tests, medicals, police clearances.

    Good luck,

    30 25-32

20 IELTS 8 (not completed) but English is our only and main language

10 working for 7 years 4 months continuous

    20 Doctorate

    5 FRACGP (possibly counting)

    5 Partner skills

    ----

90 or 70 without the English test if its not needed.

We were thinking about the 189 visa as it allows us to be flexible in the future and not having any requirements to one employer or state, it seemed the best option.

How long do medicals etc last as she had to have a full medical and police check for us to come over and they were only 6 months ago.

  4. We have been here in Perth for a few months and are looking ahead in our plan to settle here long term. We are looking at progressing our path towards Citizenship.

We are currently here on my wifes 457 visa, she is a GP already working here in Australia and I am a engineer.

I'm guessing that we should be going for a 189 visa but we are wanting to check that this is the correct path, as far as we can see she has 90 points and I have 65.

Any pointers would be grateful and any idea on costs would be great.

    Hi Robert,

I was just wondering if you ended up selling the meat smoker and the Kamado Joe? If not can you get back to me with a detailed description (pictures if possible) of the condition and an approx cost.

    Cheers

    Andrew
