  1. So excited to say i got my grant this morning. Cant remember exact time frames but here goes, I'm a paediatric nurse with 60 points:

Qualified Sep 15 - Applied for APHRA approx October once pin came through - received December

ANMAC 13 Jan - came back within 2 weeks (may have helped as i included my letter from APHRA with registration in principle)

Lodged EOI Feb - Took 5 weeks and 2 rounds to be picked up

Lodged 189 visa 28 March - already had done police checks and medicals beginning of March so front loaded everything, i did personal statements to help cover any queries on my husbands job as we works away for 9 months of the year, we also uploaded F80's.

Ive already booked flights for the 30th August to Brisbane and am in talks with the children's hospital, they didn't seem bothered i'll only have 11 months experience and have requested references already. Super super excited!!

  2. Hi im a paediatric nurse lodged 28 March - front loaded everything medicals, F80 and police checks. Ive yet to hear anything, I'm really hoping I've covered everything so get a direct grant? Ive already booked flights for the 30th August to Brisbane and accepted a offer on our house this week so the wait is going to be a killer, ill need nerves of steel!!! So far the whole process has been really quick, APHRA took about 8 weeks and ANMAC about 2 weeks so will be just my luck the visa will get delayed ?

  3. Well done on jobs! I've got forms to send back to Brisbane children's, will sort out this week. It all sounds positive though and they se t me an application pack as soon as I sent them my CV. How. How you tell who has had Adelaide team? Is there still a spreadsheet on here with timeframes?

  4. I'm waiting too uploaded everything , police checks Medicals etc on the 27 March when I lodged. Someone yesterday on another forum lodged visa 3 weeks ago and got hers yesterday so some are being issued quick, just doesn't seem to be any pattern? I've already booked flights for 30th August so hoping for quick turn around !!

  5. Just received my email from skills select inviting me to apply for an Independent (Subclass 189) (Permanent) visa.yay!

Anyone else had their invites yet???

    sam x

Nooo  I got ANMAC back in Jan and submitted EOI 19 Feb but only have 60 points so guess I'm on the next invite? at least its only 2 weeks to wait this time, that last 3 weeks felt like forever!

    congratulations girls, get scanning !!

  6. Normally the answer would be yes. However Afghanistan is not listed as a country where you can obtain a PCC from.

See this link https://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Visa/Char and scroll down to the bit that says 'What if a certificate is not available?'

It's practically guaranteed that you'd be asked for Form 80 because of the travel to Afghanistan, so I would definitely make a start on it if I were you.

Oh god can see this being a headache lol! Thank you your reply, my hubby is over there and is going to have a chat with the British embassy tomorrow to see if they can assist. Most things can be done over there with a fee so fingers crossed he may get the ball rolling and in the meantime I'll contact the Australian embassy here and see what they suggest?

can I ask how will his travel be flagged up for a form 80? do you declare jobs and travel when you lodge? What flags up a requirement for a form 80? Some get requested to do one, others get visa without having to?

  7. Hello a reply on another tread has got me thinking,we are applying for 189 I'm a nurse straightforward case and hubby is a contractor who does security in Afghanistan on 8 week rotations. As he doesn't live there he lives at home I haven't applied for police checks there, only a UK one which didnt raise anything as expected for either of us. So I've put in EOI and will front load police checks at the time of lodging.

My worry is, should I have applied for police checks in afghan? Will they count his trips as accumulative so in theory has spent 12 months in afghan even though wasn't living there? Or does it only count if he has address and is thought to be residing there? I can't imagine how difficult it will be to get police checks from

    afghanistan !!

Should I raise and submit F80 in anticipation, or will this cause unnessary delays by raising this issue when they may not even have asked for it in the first place?

Anyone been in similar situation and can advise?

    Thank you

  8. There are potential issues with what you have done.

First, the medical is only valid for 12 months. If the visa is delayed then he would have to do it again. If he is working abroad, there is a risk of delay as it can increase security checks.

Doing the medical before the co requests it, does not save time on the grant.

Once a a visa is granted, you must make first entry to Australia within 12 months of the medical or police check. Which ever is earliest. This may mean, a very tight time frame.

Hi tight frame doesn't worry us we are booking flights to go as soon as visa comes through anyway. What generates them asking for a form 80? Should I even bother front loading this, may it end up causing unesasary delays if not required anyway? Our police checks are clear(no trace) and my application is a straightforward nurse one.

seems as my hubby is only a dependant how will they actually know he's working away to delay that things? I haven't had to state his job yet? Is this something I do later on?

We have not had to do police checks for another county as his work didn't fit that criteria, Plus his work is in Afghanistan so don't think you would even get a police check done there !! I'm just hoping his work doesn't delay matters?

  9. Hi there,

To create a HAP id you need an immiaccount, so I guess you have done that

When you get an invite on your EOI you get the option to log in with your immiaccount - this then automatically links the EOI to your HAP id records.

I worried about it too, front loaded and worked seamlessly for us.

    Best of luck!!!

Excellent , that you. I also have my ACRO police checks, I'm going to get everything front loaded (included F80's). Does this need to be done at the time of lodging so need to ensure everything is scanned and ready or can it be uploaded after, as long as there before case officer allocated ? hoping for a direct grant too!

  10. just do the medical, and enter that HAPIP when your invite comes.

its front loading. Alot of people, like myself, do the medical before the EOI

Great thanks thats what i was hoping you do just enter the HAP id of your medical onto the system and they can link up. So the HAP ID is just related to the medical then, its not a ID number for the visa?

  11. Hi i have made an immi account and created a HAP ID and booked my husbands medical which is on the 10 March. Im hoping we get an invite on the 9th and can just apply for visa and change HAP ID when going for medical, however if i don't then i need to know how i link his medical ID with the visa when we actually apply? I have to book his as he works abroad and is only available to do one on the 10 March, or wait until beginning of June which will delay things. We are hoping to be over at the end of the summer so can't afford this delay.

Has anyone ever done it this way and can advise how it works? I have been told it can be done just not the process of linking the HAP ID when the time comes? Me and my children medical is later in the month so not an issue.

    Any advice appreciated

    Thank you !!

  12. You have to apply for full assessment even if you have the eligibility letter, I was hoping the same but no. You can only apply for modified once you are on the register by presenting in person in their offices. I'm about to send my application off this week, I may include my letter from APHRA it may help?

  13. So within 5 days I have received confirmation from AHPRA and ANMAC that I am eligable to register as a nurse and I can now go ahead with getting a visa. Great news for the new year, excited, nervous, scared all in one go

Congratulations, i also had APHRA come back after xmas and am just about to send ANMAC off. How long did ANMAC take? I was expecting APHRA to take a while but was only 8 weeks hoping ANMAC will be just as speedy? Was hoping to be out to Brisbane beginning of September?

  14. I'd imagine it is the reference page, I believe you are meant to send it with AHPRA. I'm planning on doing my fit2work this weekend, but sure it says that it is forwarded to AHPRA straight away, and it is only reference page required.

Had also planned to get a load of things certified while I am in Scotland, and can get a JoP to do it for free, but reading ANMAC...it seems like a better idea to wait until I have all documents, so that they are signed by the same person. Going to get a family friend/notary public to do it for me all, hopefully before Xmas.

If you get ANMAC done at the same time remember to apply on line first as you then get a form to complete which needs your signature witnessed and the person who certifies address and signature too. I got my local JOP to sign 2 copies of everything for APHRA and ANMAC but didn't realise this form needed doing by the same person who certifies the rest of the documents, i hadn't applied online for ANMAC at that point. Luckily ANMAC only requires a solicitor so only costing anther £18 to get it all redone again x

  15. I applied to APHRA and it was received on the 27 October , they have since passed my stuff from Brisbane to NSW and they have contacted me as they are missing some uni stuff which was sent end of October. I called them last night as it still hasn't been received so im thinking its lost? Just hope uni resend again quickly ? I'm not eligible to apply for ANMAC until mid jan due to needing to work full time for 3 months which is frustrating, I'm hoping this will be back by April as I really wanted the visa to come before Aug next year?

tine feels like it's standing still already, this is going to be a very long year

good luck with all your applications x

  16. Hi I'm Chantelle , a year off moving yet but starting application for skills assesement end of this year and hope to be in a position to have the visa next summer. I'm moving to Brisbane bayside looking at Wellington point , Ormiston area. Have friends in this area so going on a reccie to check out schools etc. I will hopefully be working at the new children's hospital. Part of me also fancies the sunshine Coast but depends on when the new hospital opens and hubby's work? Will have a 8 year old and twins 5 when we make the move.

Good luck, when are you hoping to move? I'm more than happy to discuss Oz in kind of obsessed lol so talk away

  17. Chantelle have you worked out how their grading works? The Mater job I've applied for is a grade 5 just wondering how that compares to uk bandings.

Im not sure with regards to the specific job I just posted but I thought if a band 5 here you will go into same there against number of years post qualified ie 5/2? the pay scales for banding are available online, do you mean in regards to pay?

  18. Hi there

I'll apologise in advance for what I think might be a long post ..........

I've been doing some research into the process of trying to get to Australia for a while (initially in 2009 before qualifying) and think its time to stop the lurking around forums and ask for some advice and guidance!

I'm a child branch nurse with a first class BSc (Hons) and have worked in neonates since qualifying over 5 years ago. I've attained my neonatal qualification in speciality for special care, high dependency and intensive care and after my initial location research in 2009, I'm keen to try and get to Brisbane or the surrounding area with my husband and nearly-4-year-old son.

But, after trying to contact various organisations (including Queensland Health, Immigration, ANMAC etc) and recently reading some negative experiences about the opportunities in Oz (together with the costs of migration reaching £30,000), I'm feeling really disheartened and wondering if I should give up on my Australian dream .........

 Does anyone know if there are any realistic opportunities for UK-qualified NICU nurses in Queensland or is the demand for skills being met internally? Obviously, before I take any steps in the migration process (and part with any cash) I need to know whether there's likely to be a job at the end of it. I'd love to hear from anyone who's made the move and can comment about whether there's any real chances for nurses with my skills and experiences.

 According to the QLD Health website, they prefer to employ migrants on a 457 visa, which I was initially quite happy to do, but after reading around and contacting a friend-of-a-friend who migrated 6 years ago, I know that these visas come with risks. So, I've been reading about the 189 for PR but wondered if QLDH would not offer employment if it wasn't with a 457?

 Will my husband need to apply for a 189 visa in his own name or do spouses and dependants go on my application? He's not on the SOL and works (currently on a self-employed basis) as a Materials Handling (ie forklift truck etc) Instructor and Examiner.

 "Registered Nurse (Paediatric)" (ANZSCO 254425) is on the SOL but NOT on a list of nurses that can migrate according to a page on the Go Matilda website. Is this correct??? If so, and with my neonatal intensive care experience, could I apply under ANZSCO code 254415 which covers "critical care and emergency" nursing?

 On the NBMA website it states that sole-qualified nurses (which I'm guessing also means child-branch nurses) must have "supervised practice". Does anyone know much about what this means and if it impacts on how employable you are?

 I'm aware that if applying for 189 PR I will need to do an English assessment and that there is the IELT or OET. Is IELT the preferred type by ANMAC? If so, does it need to be the "Academic" version? Can anyone advise how long they took to prepare for the exams so that I can get a date booked?

 Does it really cost £30,000 to get out to Oz? I doubt I'd use an MA as I've been offered help by someone who is out there so that would save some money. I've no pets to ship out which I also believe bumps up the costs.

I think that's it for now but hope you don't mind me posting again if I need more expertise help!:unsure:

I really appreciate you reading my post and look forward to you sharing your experiences and sharing your knowledge.

    Thanks, Kelly x

Hi Kelly firstly completely ignore the information on Go Matilda website just look at the SOL, I've spoken to Go Matilda myself (you can get a free over the phone consultation and she is really helpful). Im due to qualify as a paed nurse this year and from our conversation there is no problem with paed nurses, I will be applying for the 189 and my hubbie and children will be a dependant and his job is not on the sol either. Ive also never heard of supervisory unless you have a diploma and in some cases I think they are asking for 12 months supervisory but certainly not just because your are paediatric trained??

Ok on Brisbane, im not there but ive researched for years as this has been a long term plan and from what I can gather neonatal nurses are just as much in demand as here especially if you have the course. I had a wobble a while back as I really want to go into neonates from training but was worried I would limit myself on arrival to Australia. I joined a few facebook pages, one being poms on the bay and asked for advice from paed nurses out there. A couple said the Mater is always looking, may be worth contacting them direct but they do not offer sponsorship as most of queensland health now. Their website may be very outdated as I believe they did but this has changed a lot over the last couple of years. There is also a new hospital in Caloundra, sunshine coast which I have my eye one which opens end of 2016. This will have a SCBU and the hospital is taking invites of interest online. May be worth submitting CV? Also there is a hospital called Greenslopes I believe inner Brisbane near Ipswhich which has a SCBU they were advertising a while back as they also just opening a childrens ward.

I am planning on going out for a reccie when qualified and in midst of visa application, contact them all direct and ask for an informal chat. There is a lot of agency work at the moment for paediatric probably due to new childrens hospital, apparently from one of the main recruitment agencies Brisbane and Adelaide are the best states at the moment job wise for paed nurses. Look on seek.com.au for an idea and maybe worth contacting them for a chat about neonatal?

I would love to hear how you get on as ill be behind you in the visa process!

    Good luck chantelle!

  19. Have you considered moving state? There is a lot of agency work for paed nurses in brisbane and I know of a nurse who has had a long chat with one of the main nursibg agencies has said that queensland is better at the moment for paediatric nurses. There is a new childrens hospital opening this month and although they have merged from other hospitals from talking to staff there they haven't got enough people so will no doubt be recruiting soon. good luck I'm also in 3rd year of my paed training and hoping to be out after12 months experience so this is worrying. I will be looking at queensland when I do make the move.

  20. does anyone know what southern china are like? partnership with Malaysian air (EEEK!!) looking at prices for our reccie next year and now we've decided to it without kids will be pressed for time so will go straight through hence not being bothered where the stop is just need is as cheap as possible. This airline was best deal around £700 with a decent travel time although it does involve one overnight stop on way back but can live with that? That's going to Brisbane
