Hi Ginny, I applied for the 143 in June last year having held my 173 for 18 months, I was awarded the 143 in December, and I was in Ireland on holidays when I got the email asking for the fee and giving me 28 days so I contacted immigration and they were ok with waiting till I got back in January. Hi Ginny, It took about 6 months to get our 173 to 143 visa granted. It seemed to take a while to complete the AOS, but then we're in Brisbane and Centrelink seem to have a bit of a reputation for dragging their heels! This was in 2013 so they may have improved since then. We just had to keep IMMI updated and all was well.

I just saw the 'breaking news" advisory, and it says:

TEMPORARY TO PERMANENT (subclass 173 - 143 and 884 - 864)

We are currently assessing for finalization applications lodged on 21 January 2015.

so it seems the timelines would be 6 to 7 months too. I thought it would take years..

Hi All, i have been randomly inquiring in this forum to get some feedback on the timelines for 173 holder applying for a 143. I seem not to get any responses yet or maybe i have missed replies.

If anyone of you has undergone this, can you shed light on the matter? Really appreciate it.

Has any one applied for subclass 143 from subclass 173 in last 6 months? I have applied for 173 to 143 in October, received acknowledgment and request for AOS and Police check in November, submitted documents in January. Since then I have not heard from Department of immigration. I had sent them a general enquiry but received an automatic reply. Can anyone tell me what is the usual waiting period?

hi lou, you should inform your CO about your parents' plans, current whereabouts. By right, parents have to be offshore when the visa is about to be granted..

Just want to be sure...can my parent who is eligible to apply for a 143/173 CPV apply for a tourist visa or long stay parents visa whilst the 143/173 is being processed?

 

What happens if the 143/173 is issued whilst she is visiting or should she just let the immigration/CO know and then it's ok?

hi, just a quick question. for the cpv 2nd vac, how many days are you usually given to have it in?

it says “….In the 2012–13 Migration Program year, 6575 Contributory Parent visa places are available for applicants applying from in and outside Australia.”

Considering – “If we add to the existing pendency the number of applications received from July 2012 to June 2013 then the average waiting time would not be less than 24 months…”

Assuming that there were a number of received applications that more or less fit into the given visa places…

So would that translate to - if there is a 2012 backlog of 12000 + current fiscal year alloc 6575 / 545 = 34 months wait (almost 3 years)?

This is too pessimistic, I may be analysing it wrongly..

I am at the beginning of a long road to move to Australia in order to be near my daughter who is 6 years old. I now have enough money to pay for the visa (143) so want to get the ball rolling. How long might it take until I could be living in Australia and would my wife be able to get in on my application or would she need a separate application? I have e-mailed all the experts regarding what route to go down but thought asking people who are in similar situations might also bear fruit as in me getting more info. I have many more queries but will ask them further down the thread as don't want to ask too much at once /)

I want to bring my mom over under Offshore Contributory Parent Visa. My mom is 61 turning to 62, has two children (me - Australian citizenship and my sister - student studying in Australia) with my dad. My dad has another two children from previous marriage. The first one is married and live in Vietnam, the second one live with my mom and dad in Vietnam, over 18 years old. They divorced just few months ago, however they still live in the same house (with my step sister as well).

 

Does the divorce count if she still lives in the same house with my dad and my step sister only from couple months; because if they still marry, my mom wont meet the balance of family test; however they now divorce my mom will be able to meet the test (1 of the 2 children in Australia) ? And how do we submit the balance of family test to the immigration department?

Which children are counted?

The following children are counted in the BoF test:

• children of both parents, including children of previous marriages or de facto relationships of either

parent, including adopted and step-children, and children in institutions;

• children of both parents, whether they are dependent or self-supporting, single, married or divorced;

and

• children whose whereabouts are unknown, or cannot be verified, are counted as being in their

parents’ country of usual residence.

Anyway just a train of thought to everyone… So, if they’re doing Oct 2011 cpv's, and they’re saying it’s taking 18 months, counting Oct 2011 to now isn't 18 months but only 14 months.

So by saying its really taking up to 18 months, should that mean that there are applications from way back May-June 2011 which are untouched and un-assessed? So it doesn't follow the order of lodgement date? My ack.date is way prior to Oct 2011, so not sure whats happening.

I would email parents@immi.gov.au give them your file reference number and name(s) and ask if they can tell you how long it might be until you are contacted by a case officer or asked to provide further information (medicals, police checks etc). Knowing them, they will reply that they are currently dealing with applications lodged before yours. Then next week (as if by magic) they will email you again and begin the next part of the process.

I sometimes think they like to play mind games with us (or maybe I'm paranoid!)

Thanks for the guidance. Let you all know the outcome once I do. And oh btw, just to have an idea..what sort of medical tests do they want you to go through. So commonly that’s urine, ultrasounds? xray, blood, and what else? Do they check sugars, cholesterol? How in depth does it go?

Hi Gin, my ack date is 6 Sept 2011 and I am expecting a CO any day now, the way flight prices are going I was even going to book one for end Dec as there is one date when it is fairly reasonable they go way up for a one way flight in January. It really seems a long time that you are waiting for a CO, going by , the tracker list. Hope you can let us know if you email and get a reply from immigration. For what I know, you may expect a co after 14 months. For my situation, its already near November now, and 17 months have passed (from my ack date) still no word from them. Your suggestions valued. I’m not sure if its right that I just wait. Thanks,Gin :em3900:
