  1. Thank you very much for the reply, I will endeavour to be a bit more patient! I just thought it was a bit odd with both of us specifying we want to have our ceremony together and my husband hearing but me not. We have RRVs sorted so no problems there xx
  2. Hi, My husband and I both applied for citizenship last March and both specified that we would like to have our citizenship ceremony together. However, he received a date for his test which he sat a couple of weeks ago (and passed!) and I haven't heard a thing. On checking my immi account, it still states my application has been "received" but I'm a bit concerned that after 13 months of no contact from home affairs, somehow it has been lost. Has anyone else had this happen at all? I also wondered if anyone knew of a way to contact Immigration to query this? I can't find an email address online that accepts messages. I live in WA and have previously called Immigration in this state, but the recorded message states they are unable to discuss visa / citizenship applications over the phone. Any help or advice gratefully received. Thanks so much x
  3. That's great, thanks so much for your help. Looks like I misread the information - for some silly reason I was thinking it was every country since the age of 18 that we'd spent more than 90 days in. Thanks again x
  4. Hi, this is my first post in a while. I'm currently applying for citizenship and wondered at which stage the UK police checks were done? I couldn't see anywhere on the application where this would be uploaded and I couldn't find this information on the Immi website. I called the immigration helpline but after 55 minutes in the queue where I ended up as caller 55 (from 105!) the phone signal dropped and I thought I might have more luck here! I'm guessing the checks from my PR visa application almost 5 years ago would be too out of date? It also looks like I may need a Greek police check after spending 7 months there some years back and my husband an Italian one for the same reason. Does anyone have any experience of how long these take to process? Thanks very much in advance for any help x
  5. Letterboxes being outside your house and knowing that whenever it rains, your post will ALWAYS be left half hanging out of them. Fuse boxes are on the outside of some houses which I find strange. Automatic cars being so common here, and often little difference in price from a manual. I don't know if this is just a WA thing but if I'm put hold when I'm on the phone to someone, when they pick up again they always say "Are you there?".
  6. Hello, I'm on Vodafone recharge. It costs $1 for up to 2 hours to the UK. My brother and sister in law also live in Hong Kong and it costs $1c a minute to speak with them x
  7. I posted this in another thread, but also thought I'd post it here so please skip if you've already read it Hello, Myself and my husband moved to South Australia at the end of February and so far we have loved it. I'm a registered general nurse and my husband's a mental health nurse. Neither of us had work before we arrived but had no problem finding nursing jobs. I'm from the UK and have found some things are more expensive in Australia and vice versa. We generally spend about the same / slightly more on food per month. At present we don't rent, having managed to stay in caravan parks and housesit which has saved us a lot of money. For anyone interested in housesitting there are plenty of websites where people advertise. We both earn more than we did in the UK now (even though I work 30 hours a week instead of full time) and despite the cost of living being higher we are better off and would most likely be even if we were paying full priced rent. I recommend salary sacrificing if you're able to as it saves a lot of money. There is also the Entertainment Book which you pay around $65 per year for. This is full of discount vouchers for days out, meals, holidays, haircuts etc. For general nurses, it seems that agency work is easy to pick up if you have some experience and there also seems to be more work in the private sector. I work at a private hospital which is very busy but people I work with tell me that the staffing ratio is better in the public sector. I applied to work in 2 of the public hospitals over 3 months ago and have been offered casual positions, however the whole process is very slow and I'm still waiting for my police checks to come back before I start. When I registered with the agency and started at the private hospital I only needed to show them a basic police check which I got myself through one of the local police stations. I had to pay around $65 for it, but it got me employed a bit faster as I was able to show it when I had the job offers instead of waiting for it to come through. We're in winter at the moment and although the weather's better than UK winters, houses are generally not very well insulated or heated. If anyone's thinking of coming to South Australia don't throw your jumpers / coats etc. away before you come! So far, I have loved being here. Adelaide is a great city and there is plenty to do. There are some beautiful places here and overall I have found most people to be friendly. I liked living in the UK before we moved here but so far I don't miss it. My mobile phone provider does a great international rate I can talk for up to 2 hours for only $1 which makes keeping in contact with family much easier. If anyone has any questions please ask - I don't claim to be an expert on emigrating to Adelaide but I can do my best to help xx - See more at:
  8. You're right - I'm sorry. I was just trying to help people out and didn't think of that. I've only sent the one out and won't do so again.
  9. Hi Mel, I'm a nurse and am currently getting everything together for my skills assessment. The agent I'm using sent me a couple of examples of references suitable for ANMAC which I'd be happy to email you if you like - not sure if it'd help as we obviously do different jobs, but you're welcome to take a look. From the references that have been written for me so far that my agent has approved, it seems to be a normal reference but with a job description / person spec. included within it, i.e. what your job involves etc. x
