Hi all, we moved to Darwin from NSW in August. I'm from Kent but have lived in Australia about 10 years. My husband is Australian. Our son is nearly 4 and our daughter is 18 months. Finding it hot, and my little boy is a bit all over the place & unsettled by the move, so it's been harder to meet people than I expected. Drop me a line if anyone's interested in catching up, we are in Rapid Creek :-)
Hi Guys,
Hope your all adjusting too this cold weather we are currently having, we too are fairly new to darwin and also looking too meet new people. I'm from Cambridge, my partner is Belgian and our little rascal is approaching 3. We are a pretty laid back couple so if you fancy a chinwag drop us a line.

Hi Jo
have you thought of looking on Gumtree?, you can get some things cheap and since its darwin, everything holds its value so you prob would be able to sell them afterwards for the same price.
cheers

Hi, just wondered what the medical would consist of for my two children, I know we have to have bloods and x-rays but wondered is it the same for them? also the cost for a children's medical, is it the same as an adult?
Thanks in advance for any replies!!
Hi Bouncy,
We had our medicals 4 months ago with our 2 yr old Son. Talk about money for nothing. All he had was his weight / height / head circumfrance and asked to pick something up off the floor. So so so basic its really quite stupid Lol
hope this helps

Hi Guys,
myself, partner and 2 yr old are arriving into Darwin on the 3rd February and will be living in Winnelli. We would really appreciate it if someone could possibly point us in the direction of local playgroups / outdoor meets for our little boy as we have been trying to find out from the UK but have not had much luck.
Cheers

Hi Lisa,
I was in the same boat as you over a year ago, looking for a job who would be willing to sponsor me while applying in the UK. I have to say I was very lucky and after sending about 30 applications with a covering letter to employers all over Australia only one company got back to me and almost a year to that date my Permanent residency was approved. We fly out on the 31st Jan so not long now.
You have to be prepared to fly over for an interview etc and that can be a very expensive interview indeed but if you really want it you got to keep trying.
Good luck

Hi there,
has anybody used "Relo UK" for shipping goods to Australia? They offered us very competitive prices but are just sending out feelers to others. Any info would be gratefully received

Hi Guys and Gals,
Appologies already but could somebody please set me straight on this matter. We are emigrating to Darwin at the end of January and are in two minds wether to take white goods and our TV. We have checked out the prices of buying new once we arrive in Darwin and the prices made my eyes pop jump out of my socket. What I am asking is wether our appliances would work there and if for example the hose connections for the washing machine are a universal fitting. Also would a UK tv work and be able to take the australian aerial plug.
Please can somebody put me straight
Thanks

Hi, I am just having a moan....... I am so so fed up with the way DIAC are dealing with applications for RSMS visas since the July 1st changes and infuxam
I mean i am one of the unlucky applicants who applied the begining of March 12 at melbourne. I find the fact that DIAC knew for a long time before that the changes they made on the 1st july would generate a huge influx of applicants but seem totally unprepared in terms of man power to deal with this sucessfully. The fact that they are also now approving visas from the new system while leaving others like me at the bottom of an ever growing pile absolutely appaling considering we have all payed a lot of money to get to this point. I know this will sound unfair to the newer applicants but I wish DIAC would just concentrate on the thousands who are " patiently " waiting, do the decent thing and ignore those newer applicants untill they sort this mess out. FIRST COME FIRST SERVED seems a good, FAIR way forward.
I am just extrememly grateful that my potential aussie boss is a very decent and patient man who is sticking with me rather than trying to fill this vacancy with other workers.
Rant over

Howdy all,
I was allocated a CO this week and after so many months of absolutely no news, I'm beyond excited. I feel as though my head is up on the chopping block now, so fingers crossed that things go smoothly from here on out. My timeline is as follows:
Applied for RCB: February 15, 2012
RCB granted: March 13
Nomination and Visa Application submitted: March 13
Application acknowledged: March 16
CO allocated: August 27
I'm a NON-DRC case out of Melbourne, I work for a landscaping company in Darwin, and I'm from the UK. Wondering what or if I should expect anything like a workplace visit or... nerve-wracking!
Hi,
You must be getting excited now lol, I can't answer your question for you but thought I would say that we submitted our application one week after yours last may so hopefully we will hear very soon about a case officer. Our was also NON DRC and are also going to Darwin :-)

Hi ewaninflames,
We lodged or rather our MA lodged in Melbourne for us paper based from the UK. How about you

Hi
We are also waiting..........................
RSMS 119. RCB Certified 04/01/2012, Application Lodged 15/03/2012, Application acknowledged 26/03/2012...WAITING
I received an email from DIAC 4 weeks ago stating that they expect a case officer to be appointed within 8 weeks so we wait and wait and wait.
I am glad we have a patient employer waiting for me

Cost of living questions
in Northern Territory

Hi
On $60k per year you may slightly struggle up here to rent a 3 bed in Palmo/Darwin area plus run 2 cars. The rent for a 3 bed place is anywhere from $550 upwards so that would be at least half your take home wage on the salary you mentioned. You would still have Electric rates to pay, though not as bad as people make out. I think they are on par with UK prices so not really a shock to us. It can be done dont get me wrong if you live within your budget, and depends on what visa you come on you could be eligible for family tax credits which are pretty nice up here plus rent assist too. Its a great life here in the territory and if you can survive till the other half goes back toi work you will not regret it in the long term.
any other questions bud, feel free to ask
