The main thing is that the vehicle will meet Australia requirements. For the wheels they must be within specification as far as guard clearance, etc and also make sure the speedo is still correct if they are larger than standard. With the engine there will need to be some emissions evidence available for the new engine in most Australian states which means that engine must have been available in some vehicle released in Australia, although some states and/or individuals inspecting the vehicle may not require this either. It's really just a case of doing as much homework as possible before you make the decision to bring the vehicle. I know it sounds painful, and it certainly can be sometimes, however if the vehicle is in good clean condition, appears to be well loved and meets the basic road registration requirements then it should be no trouble. Otherwise just go ahead and apply as a personal import then you avoid most of these issues and the vehicle will only need to be in a roadworthy condition for most state registration authorities.

Hi, thanks again for the reply, will get some photo's sorted this week and mail tham to you. as far as emissions, it has a 300tdi engine fitted. this was standard equipment in landrover defender's and discovery's from 1997 so should have been available in australia

Hi, thanks for the reply, the wheels and suspension could be changed back to standard fairly easily but the engine couldn't. will it make any difference being military spec as a lot of the parts don't come on a standard civilian land rover?

can anyone clarify some details for me as this subject seems to be a minefield, I own a 1986 land rover 90 which is military spec complete with standard military modifications. it has then been further modified with bigger tyres, bigger suspension and a later tdi engine. I've owned it for 4 years but its not in regular use anymore, was wondering if it would be eligible for taking with me to oz as i've heard all sorts of htings about modifications etc. can anyone help
