  1. -You may feel that you will never belong in Australia.

    - missing family.

    - lack of choice (food, cars, holidays, cloths, etc).

    - the cost of living.

    - it isn't Britain with sun

    - it can be perceived as being behind the times.

We moved around the UK before we came to Australia. This helped as we knew who would stay in touch and who might not, and help use and others get used not being local.

  2. We had the same problem when we returned a couple of years ago. We asked several agents and had simialar responses to you. In the end. We found an empty property then offered to pay 3 times the deposit. Deposits are held in a goverment scheme. Unlike 6 months advance rent. So if the mortgage isn't paid you will get it back. We also has an offer from a private land lord too. So it can be done.

    Good luck.

  3. Ok I think this is really serious stuff for the blokes. I've heard lots of people ranting about the price of a beer in Perth compared to other states. So come on how much is a pint of beer near you?

I paid $14 dollars for a pint in the Marriot hotel in QLD.

  4. In the UK I have a Sony brava with built in freeview which I purchased in australia. I get all the UK channels. The only small issue is that the TV guide shows the time in Australia.

  5. Hi all,

We have got the 176 visa and are planning to move on late September 2014. Could you please provide me with some advice like -

    1. Which one should be the best area to live for a family of 4 (two little children aged 8 and 2)

    2. How much would it cost to rent?

    3. Is it possible to rent it BEFORE our arrival so that we can go there straight away?

    4. where can I get help in renting the ideal home?

Thanks in advance for your kind cooperation.

    hello Engrauyon,

You will be able to research rental costs using domain.com.au or realesate.com.au. These will give you weekly prices. The estate agents are unlikely to let you a place before you land. They will expect you to view the property. Consider getting a short term (holiday) property for 2/3 weeks first. That way you can research (visit) the areas and see which ones meet you needs.

Good luck with your move. Hotrod

  6. Hi All,

Our move cube is floating across the ocean as we speak, but I have still got a little too much to take with us. Two suitcases approx 40kg extra in total.

    I suppose we have two options;

    • pay excess luggage costs at airport? (Malaysian Airlines)

    • or send them seperately first to arrive in a few weeks?

Any recommendations of companies to send two cases?

Anybody got any experiences of either please?

    Thankyou

You mention the movecube. They same company sends luggage too.

  7. Yes. I've been a couple of times previously. If you haven't been to one before you should find it interesting. Ask as many questions as you can and talk to as many people as you can. Collect as many free magazines and leaflets and study them when you get home. As with every subject it's all about doing the research. But no amount of research can prepare you for living in Australia.

  8. hi there

I have posted on other threads but would be keen to hear from other SA crew who are heading back to the UK. I don't know anyone in this situation and would love to swap stories, maybe over a coffee or just online.

We should be heading back next year...no fixed date and lots to tie up.

look forward to hearing from anyone in our situation

    thanks!

What part of the UK are you going too?

  9. We purchased IELTS test book and CDs from the official website.

But there are plenty of online practise tests you can try. It's as much about practice and technique as anything else.
