Just wanted to chime in here, as I seem to be in a similar situation. I already have a permanent resident visa and plan to come to Australia beginning of next year, when my current contract runs out. I do Java and Enterprise Integration so I'll be looking at the banks for a project. Maybe I'll also look at startups, wouldn't mind working in a more dynamic environment for a while.
The market here in Germany is fairly strong though, so leaving a good market for uncertainty is a bit of a leap. But I guess as a contractor you should be used to a bit of risk and uncertainty. What I'd love to here is from the people that already made the transfer to Australia, as an IT contractor. How hard it was to find that first project and major differences between the markets, if any.

A question for you ladies and gents... Was thinking of booking our medicals to have them ready for the CO (although we are a good few months away from that yet - congratulations to all who have been lucky recently). To book our medicals we need a Transaction Reference Number (TRN), but this was not provided to us by the DIAC when we logged our visa application. I see there are a number of 175 applicants who appear to have completed their medicals by the time they are assigned a CO, so how did you book the medicals without a TRN?
I had a TRN from the beginning, should be on your payment receipt. Did you apply online?

Thanks guys!
Checked this morning at 5 o'clock when I had to go to the loo. Had to recheck in the morning, just to make sure I wasn't dreaming.
Good luck to everyone who is still waiting, your time may come quicker than you might think...

Hi guys, I have been obsessively checking this thread looking for news, so I wanted to give back.
I applied on June 10th, got my CO today, everything is met except police clearance and medicals (which were submitted on wednesday).
Good luck to those still waiting for a CO...

Already found a job. I will say that this came from a company that I have known for quite a while. Otherwise I reckon that it might not have been that easy.
