  1. Hi, long time since I posted on the forum. Family of 4 granted our 190 visas back in December 2014, booked one way flights and then for various reasons we just couldn't make the move. Moved within the UK instead, but now back talking about emigrating.

question I have is that in terms of timing, we'd most likely be close to the end of the time window before we could move (oldest sons exams), and would want to stay at least long enough for citizenship. What happens if we need to leave the country (uk visit for example) after our 190 arrival period expires but prior to gaining citizenship? Apply for some kind of residents return visa? We have been back to activate our visas.

    Thanks, Jamie

  2. Hi Chef,

Could use some help and info with my situation.

I have two Porsche 911s One is 1970 911E and the other is 1989 3.2. Both have been owned and used by me on a regular basis for past 10 years.

Both have sentimental value. I have looked on Carsales.com.au and Drive.com.au and the nearest valuation I can find is a 1988 Turbo for $49990. The Turbos are normally much more expensive than the non turbo cars like mine. The valuations on RedBook.co.au shows the value as over $150,000 which is ridiculous. The value here in UK is not much more then £20k or $37,000.

What do you advise me to do. Are these guys really sticky on the '89 cut off date as the car was made in I think April 1989.and I could import them both as early classics.

If, as I read I'm only allowed to import one car can I 'sell' my early Porsche 911 to my son who lives in Sydney? He wants it anyway and I would like to keep it in the family.

WE could then ship them over in one 40ft container with the household stuff. I have had a quote for that btw. 2cars and household stuff for £5.5k

Any idea what sort of duties would be payable on both cars?

    It's a bl...y minefield.

    Look forward to your reply.

    Paul

nice car choice!! We've an 89 3.2 as well which will be coming with us to Melbourne.

  3. We missed the deadline for the September exam unfortunately, do booking for the march 14 one. Does anyone know whereabouts in London the exam is held, and whs

  4. It's been 5 weeks since I got my confirmation letter but I have been in touch with the DAA and was told it will be September before I can sit my exams. Hopefully we'll both fly through the exams and be working in Victoria soon.

Ah, ok thanks. Expecting that to be the case, but ever the optimist until confirmed. Won't be that long in the grand scheme and gives a wee bit extra time to save.

  5. Hi Jlew,

Thanks for getting back to me. I seem to be at the same stage as your wife and am waiting to hear back from the DAA also. It looks like it will be September before I am able to sit the exams. Hope everything goes well for you both.

Heres hoping! Hope all works out well for you too! It's quite a wait to September and to be honest we hadn't appreciated he next stage of the process was the exam. If we had, we'd have applied a bit earlier. It says on the day website that it may take up to 6 weeks for the assessment to come back. It will be 6 weeks this Tuesday since the date of the letter confirming this so shouldn't be too far away now. Expect the March exam is now out of the question, but will wait and see.

  6. Hi everyone and Happy New Year!

I am a UK trained dietitian and am in the process of moving to Victoria where dietitians are on the state sponsored list. I have applied to the DAA to get my skills assessed and am wondering can I apply for my 190 visa once my skills are positively assessed or do I have to wait until I sit my registration exams to do this? Also are there many jobs for dietitians in Melbourne?

    Many thanks for any information.

Hi, what stage of the skills assessment are you at? We are going through the process with my wife at the moment. We're currently waiting to hear back regarding the assessment of eligibility to sit the written exam. You need to pass the written exam before you can get the positive skills assessment. There is a sitting of the written exam in London at the beginning of March, the deadline to apply for which was 20 December. Next one looks to be in September.

  7. Hi Jamie,

You would be looking at around $3,800 for freight, import duty, taxes and customs clearance + $1,040 for paperwork costs + $1,530 roughly for on-road costs = a total cost of around $6,370 on top of the current car value ... assuming the car was only worth $6,000 in Australia then it's not looking like a good option to me. Probably sell this car before you head over and buy something else cheap when you get here.

    Cheers,

    Craig.

    many thanks Craig.

  8. This might seem a strange question, however is there anything to stop you bringing the car across, paying duty and taxes, and then trailer it to your residence and deal with getting it registered at a later stage? Clearly I wouldn't be able to use it, but would help spread the cost over time. As you in an earlier post, I would be looking to bring an 89 Porsche 911 across but it would remain, in time, as a third car.

  9. Hi Iron Chef - its taken quite a while, but i've read through all 63 pages of this thread. Very informative and i think i pretty much understand all the elements. We're in the very early stages of looking at a move and would certainly like to bring one of our vehicles with us. Its an 89 (built in March 89) Porsche 911 Carrera Sport. From looking at the various points, it would appear to be a very worthwhile vehicle to bring with us. No intention to sell it but nice to know it would be worth the hassle if we chose to do so.
